The last of your kind

In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you are the last Dragonborn – a mythical hero destined to slay the ancient dragons and save the world from destruction.

It's your own journey

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim allows you to live another life in another world. Create any character you can imagine by selecting from iconic races, such as Khajiit, Argonian, and Nord, among many others!

Aside from being able to look however you want, you'll also be able to customise combat to your style. Whether you pick up a shield and a sword or join the fight as a mage, Skyrim gives you plenty of choices and builds to choose from. Will you step away from being a stealth archer this time? Only time will tell.

Vast lands to explore

Skyrim is an expansive open-world game with endless possibilities. Visit cities like Windhelm and Falkreath, or venture off the beaten path to discover hidden caves and ruins. From the frigid tundra of the North to the sun-scorched lands of the South, explore all of Tamriel as you seek out new adventures!

Adventures await

Solve puzzles, retrieve forgotten treasures, or simply take in the stunning scenery. No two playthroughs will be the same!

Encounter new faces, join factions, and make important choices that shape your story. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an immersive and captivating game that will transport you to another realm. So what are you waiting for? Your adventure awaits!

Thanks OP I've eventually got round to buying my first Elder Scrolls game.
Just looking at modding, think I'd rather go for one of the "packages" on Wabbajack, does anyone have any recommendations?
The Phoenix flavour looks like a reasonable option?
    Thanks in advance.

    Phoenix Flavour is fine.
Living Skyrim is pretty good too as ForgottenGlory has been at this for ages.
Wildlander is probably one of the more polished ones with its own launcher and big installer (for the none Nexus files AFAIR) but there are survival elements and it plays a fair bit different.

Aldrani is the crazy "pile every mod in" modlist. Works well enough but less of a vision than the ones above.

Is this the best version to buy for Steam Deck?

Game runs perfectly on the deck.

This version the most supported modwise?

    Yes.
Classic (aka Legendary Edition) was the old 32-bit binary and most modders have given up on that as SE is more stable.

Anniversary Edition (AE) is basically a money grab by Bethesda by bundling Creation Club DLCs with the base. The binary changes and builds were updates SE also go but not the DLCs.

There are currently one or two Wabbajack modlists which require AE compared to tens which don't. If AE ever becomes necessary, there is an upgrade key you can buy.

    Well worth it.
This game comes alive even more when install the endless supply of mods from Nexus.
It can look like a latest AAA, and content can give several hundred hours to make it feel like a totally different game.

Is that stuff all for free?

Highly recommend the standalone mod Enderal: Forgotten Stories on Steam. You need to own Skyrim to play it but it installs without Skyrim downloaded.
