Still a very good app, especially when you have a chance here to test it with 3 months free subscription which covers turn-by-turn navigation, offline maps, traffic and speed camera functions.
The app also supports Android Auto as well as CarPlay so should make it a breeze to use in your compatible cars.

? Google maps free and very accurate, what's not to like lol
They have, check out AmiGo, same principle as Waze and also totally free. Just not as nice as proper TomTom so down to personal choice.
Waze completley killed the need for TomTom throughout the entire world.
Um, you avoid Google maps to avoid Google tracking your location? On your GPS enabled android phone?
Google also allows you to download maps and navigate offline
Nope I use Google Maps all the time.
Each to their own, but I doubt any app or service can beat Google maps, live traffic info and redirection. Google maps does the navigation almost effortlessly and its free!
Mine shows as "in progress" on website but nothing in subscription and no change on app either.
TomTom free app?
Haha, as usual nonsense! If you do have Google phone Google know your location exactly the same with Apple and any other brands as all of them do spy, so the rest is BS. (edited)
Google maps have the option to download an entire city so you don't need to use data. Did this prior to a Florida trip and it worked perfectly. All restaurant, shops attraction data included
My only gripe with Gmaps, is that I've noticed it does not list every speed camera there is. There has been many times I've driving past a fixed speed camera, but it's not showing on Gmaps (even after the camera has been there for ages). Yesterday for example, I was on a motorway at night and there was a car in front of me in which the camera flashed (bit of a surprise, don't often see that) but Gmaps picked up absolutely nothing.
Another gripe with GMaps is that sometimes the lane guidance ( to tell you what lane to be in) is sometimes really buggy. For example, yesterday I had to go around a round about on the 3rd exit (basically a right turn) yet gmaps is telling me I needed to be in the left lane. It's done this a fair few times.
I've downloaded Waze now (which I think google now own) but have not used it much, I prefer GMaps layout and UI but Gmaps is just too risky when it comes to speed cameras.
Yeah, TomTom are not the squeaky clean company you think they are.
For years before the era of Android Auto (and when TomTom powered Apple Maps and Google Maps was in it infancy), Most of their Sat Navs had a prepaid SIM inside them, with the soul goal of tracking location and movement so that data could be sold on to traffic agencies and road design projects.
Source : I was sat in the meeting for a certain Highways Agency when they pitched it. (edited)
I also agree for traffic tomtom is great. When I go on journeys out of my area, I run Waze in the background for the ‘warnings’ and tomtom as my sat nav.
No. But its no good when there is no internet. Probably at a time you really need it.
Tomtom Go lets you download the maps.
Yes I use Sygic, I paid for the licence but now that has changed and they are constantly asking me to upgrade to the plus service with an annual charge.
My thoughts exactly. Last time I used Tom Tom, was when I drove to Switzerland a few years ago. I wanted to save on data on my gmaps, so opted to use the Tom Tom app. The route it gave me, was the most horrendous and it had no data on a section of the road that was closed. It took me 6 hrs for a trip that should have been 3hrs, and that was the last time I ever used it.
Yes mine updated instantly
If you want a Waze like experience (online maps, live updates, reporting etc) driven by TomTom data for free check out TomTom AmiGO
AmiGO uses online maps. online routing, online traffic, basically you download the parts of the map as you drive. This consumes more data (not much just more) whereas TomTom GO lets you download the entire map reducing your mobile data consumption and has different features.
Free, no subscription + no ads (edited)
So does google maps i think. It’s called offline maps
This is the only reason i would go through the hassle of downloading and trying it out. Otherwise i find Waze enough for my needs.
Waze’s traffic redirection works well. But don’t know how to compare it with tomtom’s. (edited)
I have a standalone old school TomTom and I've tried them side by side. I love the Waze app and interface but as I'm on the road all day everyday in unfamiliar areas, I feel the TomTom picks up the traffic quicker and the redirections generally are better. I also use my TomTom if I'm going to a place that I know that's 15mins away because I hate being stuck in traffic. However its personal preference and Waze is good.
