Do you get Volt benefits with this?
    lharmer's avatar
Virgin confirmed to me no Volt benefits, until the sim card is on O2. For some reason they are still issuing new sims on Virgin Mobile despite actively moving all customers to O2!

virgin and 02 need to stop this. How come virgin offers 1 month rolling but O2 its always 12 months. If u call virgin they put you on O2 deals......

Because they're a couple of horrible companies .

O2……the most shocking provider for Data service. Most places I struggle to get 4G. It’s nearly always 3G and that doesn’t even load up google.

Same. And even if I get 4G with full signal, the speed is like an old 56k modem

Just a warning, I was on a £7 a month tariff on VM, but when they moved me to O2 they put me on £9.30 tariff and the O2 site says that there aren't any cheaper tariffs available.

    They are fibbing to you
I was on 5gb U/L minutes and texts with unused date rolling over it was about £7.70 ish
after it went up this year.
Im paying the same for 10gb but no roll over

I’m sure I read that after you get the VM speed boost you can get rid of the o2 contract and you keep the speed boost. Can anyone confirm?

Currently on this deal and got the below email today, looks like this becomes a pretty good offer? £7pm 30 day rolling for 50GB, unlimited text+mins, O2 priority, Volt for Virgin Broadband users (speed boost), and price fix til April '24.

I received the same email the other day, I’ll be paying £6 as got a discount on top. Shame the signal and speed isn’t very good.

I tried to get an upgrade from O2 was paying £7 for 4GB (contract finished last month) but the operator could not help me because my security sms code not working for him. Instead ordered this one for £6.99 via online chat and it took only 10 minutes.
They also accepted port-in from O2 to VM.

credit check involved in taking this deal?
    itsmewhoami's avatar
I think so, both Virgin Mobile and O2 do a credit check when you buy a new SIM Only contract.

Recently moved from BT Mobile to 02 .... ;(

    4G is non-existent.

Don’t do it. O2 is catastrophically bad. Do a fair bit of travelling for football and in all parts of the country data service is horrific.

Is this a 5G deal? It's not very clear.

    O2 5g is slow so I wouldn’t worry

Seems bizarre on one hand they are still marketing VM mobile deals using O2 network anyway and on the other are moving all VM mobile customers over to O2 from a billing perspective by end of 2023 anyway. Why not just stop selling to new on VM and just cut out the additional work.

What a fiddle (I wanted to write something else)
    Tried to get it, no.
You were moved to O2 on Monday, we can’t move you back and O2 aren’t offering it.
    itsmewhoami's avatar
One possibility is for you to take out a new Virgin plan (albeit credit check here), then request for a PAC code from O2 to port your existing (now on O2) number over back to Virgin.

But as others have said, be prepared to be moved to O2 (like your current number) at sometime this year.

My SIM card can’t even receive calls. I can make calls but that’s about it. Signal is atrocious in my area. I called them up they said there’s nothing they can do, even though I’m not receiving the services I’m paying for.

I'd write a complaint on the Resolver website, as it's shocking what you're going through. Lots of info on MSE about it.

A great deal price wise but yes I've also had so many problems on O2's network around Bristol. I really appreciate O2's free EU roaming. Whenever I go to France and Belgium their networks are flawless and fast and they work perfectly. Just puts it into perspective as it ain't the same in Britain!

I cannot wait to leave 02 later this year. Have been on all the networks over last decade and have never had poorer connection (even when apparently connected to 4g)

O2 is the worst mobile data network for coverage and speed. Avoid these deals if you can. These are cheap for a reason. I learnt it hard way after I switched over to O2 last week 😔
