I have been on the Spa Valley quite a few times and whilst it is a brief ride there are various points along the way.
High Rocks is an amazing place and another place you can get off and walk to is Groombridge Place, which is brilliant for children and adults. These 2 alone will take a whole day to visit, it does make it more expensive but Groupon do vouchers quite often, if anyone is interested in maxing out their day.

Fort William to Mallaig route on West Coast is probably the best..

I think this is the Spa Valley Railway. I went on that with a Groupon … I think this is the Spa Valley Railway. I went on that with a Groupon voucher and it was rubbish. The trip is short and the views aren't great. Hopefully the meal makes up for it but I really doubt it. If you can get to it, the steam train from Tenterden to Bodium is so much better (the views are great) and if you have National Trust Bodium Castle is a much nicer place to plod around than Eridge.

All these railways have to start somewhere, go on the trip, help them out, & they can improve on the facilities in the future.

It is a fantastic place to visit and we go very regularly. There's easily enough here to keep young kids entertained for a whole day. But as mentioned despite the park and enclosures being well kept the pens are very small for the animals they house (the white tiger pen for instance is only slightly larger than my back garden), which as a spectator means your always up close and personal with the animals, but it does leave you feeling a little sorry for the animals. I suppose you have to balance the conservation benefit of housing and breeding these mostly endangered species vs the individual animals freedom.

If you want a guilt free animal experience, my favourite Zoo's are Whipsnade and Durrell, with Chester coming a close 2nd.

The trouble is it is best to visit there on a sunny day. Most of the exhibits are out doors or you have to walk between each one to get to them.

Also the animals are not daft, if it is raining they stay hidden in their hut. There is a mini train that tours the park but does not stop at each exhibit.

It is very good exercise/workout walking all the way round. Just make sure you take spare batteries for your camera and a packed lunch and drink. There is a speedway museum as well there. Well worth a trip but better in the sun.

Although it's a good deal, I'm kinda torn with this place. I went a few years ago, and although it's incredible to see such wild creatures in the flesh (snow leopards, white tigers, etc), I felt so guilty when I saw the lack of space they had. Granted, it's not half as bad as some zoos, but I just don't think some of these creatures should be kept in 100m x 50m cages when out in the wild they would likely roam for miles and miles every day. Unless there is some kind of breeding programme going on, although to my knowledge, that isn't the case.

I won't vote either way, but just make sure you really appreciate these animals if you do decide to visit!

Should buy Ross Brawn and his aerodynamic working group a couple of tickets, to see if they can work out how to improve the ability of the current F1 cars to follow each other.
Look at the complexity of the wings - it's a plank. Not a multi-fanned concoction that ruins racing today.

Hummm. Blow holes. I wonder?

Just for information; reading the comments left on the Virgin website, it sounds like they use 'Marine Discovery' in Penzance (who are brilliant by the way; very knowledgeable and friendly - we went on a trip with them 3 & a half years ago).

http://www.marinediscovery.co.uk/trips.html

A 3 hour trip booked directly with Marine Discovery is £35 each; or a 4 hour is £45.
If you check on their facebook - they usually upload daily 'spottings', so can try to plan when might be a lucky time to see dolphins etc.

" it's a cheap deal for what you're getting and with some cashback too." £10 for a a5 size photo isn't what I call " cheap"

Not bad if you just take the one print though! You're not obliged to buy more, they'll try and tell you that you won't get another chance to have them as they'll be deleted off the system, yet they will probably phone you a month later offering you them at half the price. it's cheaper to have six separate photoshoots and six separate photos. Just don't get roped into buying any more regardless of the saving then it's a good deal! I've added some heat, all these cynical cold voters irritate me... it's a cheap deal for what you're getting and with some cashback too.

They make their money by pressure selling you more photos. I hate these 'cheap photo' deals - just draw you in and grab your cash!

You can get free view of London skyline from the sky garden. Or if you don't have kids with you, visit one of the bars on the 32/33 floor and spend the money on drinks instead.

ill provide this view from the shard free of charge.
