Personally I would not purchase a non certified Apple Watch Charger. Why spend £400+ on a watch and risk damaging it. There’s always a concern that the thing could set on fire, burn your house down and invalidate your insurance. I can imagine the insurance assessors face when you tell him you bought it for a £1 at Poundland. (edited)

How can it damage it? It’s an induction coil that runs off USB, 5V 1A probably. If it’s out of range the watch wouldn’t accept it. There’s no direct driving higher current and voltage into the device as no physical connection. If these can catch fire so can the Apple ones.

Have several of these they work perfectly even with series 8

I've lost mine but I'm not sure I want to risk my £400 watch by using this. I'll nick my wife's and she can have it

don't worry, I would do the same too

Got two of these and it charges much slower than the original but does the job when it’s your only option.
Remember it’s inductive charging so not sure on the risk concern for the watch.

I don’t understand what the concern is either - it’s a low current induction coil, about the worst that can happen is less efficient transfer so slightly slower charge and maybe more waste heat.

Do they come with a free fire extinguisher 🧯

    Ooohhh!
This thing will save on your heating bills....as it burns your home down.

I wouldn't go near this with tongs and oven gloves!

Is there such a thing as a reasonably priced MFI watch charger that really is MFI? Or do I just spend £35 on an Apple one?
    plewis00's avatar
Or get a used Apple one from CEX or some other retailer.

Would this work on an iPhone 13?
    plewis00's avatar
If you mean the MagSafe area on the 13 then, no. It’s a small charging pad designed for the Apple Watch.

Unless you're in a pinch and desperately need a watch charger (for some reason...). Idk why you'd buy a charger from poindland for your very expensive smart watch. reminds me of people who build a £2000 pc and power it with a no name £30 power supply
    plewis00's avatar
Not the same thing at all… this is powered by USB which has strict limits and no direct connection to the watch. A £30 unbranded PSU has a direct connection to the mains with little protection and is physically connected to components with variable voltage and current.

The cable is just an induction coil, not a lot to go wrong with it - I can see people who buy it because they want a spare (eg use with power bank) or have a cheap watch they got without a charger.
