I'm genuinely surprised how many budget phones don't have 5g, I'd have bought this but I can't lose 5g.
    noonecanhelp1's avatar
and you think 4G can't go over 100mbps?

5G is really pointless, just hype to sell you more stuff
see this photo is from Bansko ski slopes at about 2000m, 4G roaming
also 4G signal goes through walls more than 5G52813640-0IK10.jpg (edited)

    This one or Samsung a25 5g ?
    mzafran1234's avatar
    Definitely this
  3. Caitlin2102's avatar
5g is totally overrated for me. Battery drainer and not really utilised. Overkill (edited)

Get Huawei p30 pro, will shit on all brands
    TAZMANUK's avatar
I agree I've a p30.pro however had battery replaced about 9 months ago and battery now rubbish again, need another type of p30 pro or a p40 pro
  5. Caitlin2102's avatar
I asked weeks ago too and no reply. It's not £179. Forget that

Looks good, do I buy this or keep my 3½yr old Mi 11 for a bit longer?
    Megamart's avatar
Oh, I've got a Mi11 too, and couldn't give up 5G capability and the better processor for this.

Can someone tell me if this would be better than a pixel 6a in terms of performance and camera?

EDIT: Apparently not (useful site for phone noobs like me): versus.com/en/google-pixel-6a-vs-xiaomi-poco-m6-pro

EDIT 2: it looks like there is no Xiaomi, Poco etc device in the same price bracket as a pixel 6a that out performs it.. not even the note 13 pro (which is more expensive). (edited)

Note 13 pro takes a half decent photo for a phone in its price sector...

I have a Poco X3 NFC and having to reboot it constantly. Should I go for this or a Samsung A55 or splash out for the S24.
    Any advice welcome.
  9. Caitlin2102's avatar
This is simply far better value than the A55. Only thing the Samsung has over it is an aluminium strip. In every other way these specs are much better for a phone that's nearly half the price.

Not sure it's still £179 though. (edited)

Anybody know the coupon code to apply here. There's a £20 auto discount that takes in to £199 so obviously a coupon code for the other £20

Okay, as someone completely new to Poco phones, what's the main differences between the M6 pro & the X6?
    Caitlin2102's avatar
Wondering about that myself. The specs look identical

    eSIM support?

Gave up on Xiaomi a few years ago because of poor proximity sensor. Tempted by this though, do they still have bad proximity sensing? I.e. touch screen stays on when in call?
  14. noonecanhelp1's avatar
    as per GSMArena
one thing to bear in mind about this phone is the virtual proximity sensor

"In terms of sensors, the Poco M6 Pro has a lsm6dso accelerometer and gyroscope combo. There is also a mmc5603 magnetometer. You also get a tsl2522 light sensor. Typically, the latter gets bundled with a proximity reader, but unfortunately, the Poco M6 Pro seems to have a virtual proximity reader instead of a hardware one. It does not work as well and is very contingent on surrounding conditions. There is no barometer on board either, but that is pretty expected on a budget phone."

Would this be a good first time phone for my 11 year old son?
    Caitlin2102's avatar
Don't see why not. Absolutely packed with features and good stuff. Only issue might be it's quite big for (small?) hands. Slap a cover on and it'll be fine otherwise

    P. S. Think you'll have to pay £199 for this not £179 and for that price the poco x6 is a better phone. (edited)
