Don't bother with junk like this.

If you're strapped for cash, just buy a suitably sized kettle bell and with that you can follow a decent amount of variety to work the majority of your body.

They will be around the same size as a 20kg Olympic bar by the time you have them stacked with weight, awful balance and compromised range of motion.

Similar to what I have, the ONLY issue I've found (in 10+ years) is that the (plastic) collar loosens on the metal bar, so you notice a little movement, and have to double check it is secure.....or else plastic & metal eh, not the best combination.

You can knock em all you want, but they seem to be a functional set (that may turn out to be a short lived idea) at a price that's not gonna hurt, should they end up as ornamental DUST gatherers

I wouldn't buy "cement weight plate covered with hard plastic" for my dumbells. Huge in the size.
    Stick to the iron.

That will be because of the petrol/diesel the weights seem to be covered in on arrival according to most leaving feedback

Look decent for the price. Argos charge £40 for vinyl and £60 for iron for only 20kg. I had similar set years ago. Never had any real issues apart from the spin lock tended to come undone after a while so had to tighten a hard as I could - after a while the plastic handle in the middle started to buckle.

If the lock stays in place on these then imo you can't really go wrong. Obviously not the heaviest set out there, but looks like you can set each dumbell to 15kg so decent enough for quite a few exercises.

Always fun watching the delivery driver carry this parcel

Decent enough Photoshop of the weights, having never been used by the models. However, there is just no excuse for using these type of weights. Bulky waste of if space (edited)

Bulky waste of space and will likely breakdown

Stock up on these for the next pandemic and then sell for £££ ...

Yes, I could store them in the garden office!

Looks too narrow the grip part compared with very large weights either side. Don't waste your money.

great great price. £1/kg was the standard like 10 years ago

Yes, for metal dumbbells, but this is cheap cement. Still a very good price, we get another pandemic and you can sell them with profit if the gyms close.

Horses for courses people, horses for courses.

We are advised to go for a KETTLEBELL over this versatile set of (at the price) starter weights, and I noticed an advert (on this very page) for 1 such item...but just 1?

In any case, this Dumbbell set (so 2) weighs in @ 30kg over the alternative (it's good to have options) of 8kg

Thanks, ordered 10 because my delivery guy is about 60kgs and annoys me sometimes so this should be funny.

    Don't forget to refuse delivery

I like the “reasonable distribution” description (first picture, under weight marks), at least they’re honest

Considering between powerblock sport exp or powerblock pro exp, any idea which one to get gym guys here?
    xusto's avatar
The Pro EXP have a urethane coating on them. I believe the lugs that the rods are bolted to are also urethane which allows them to "flex". Supposedly that makes them more durable if dropped however the older model of these has a lawsuit raised against them as the urethane would crack and fail when exposed to certain conditions. Presumably they fixed the issue when they updated the model.

Personally I saved the money and just went with the Sport Exp. I didn't really care much for the "upgrades" the pro exp offered and preferred the all steel design. Any failure would be my own fault. Some people HATE the Sport EXP though yet love the Pro EXP. I also noticed they have removed the sport exp from the official website so I wonder if they are going to discontinue them.

Let me know if you want anymore info.

What kind of dumbbells do they use in gyms? Are they cast iron ones?

I've got some in the house but think they must be sand or something as they are massive compared to the ones in the gym so planning on upgrading
    satyris's avatar
do they weigh the same? /s

yes they use cast iron in gyms, even it it's covered in rubber, or chrome, or painted.

Aren't the spinlocks in the pictures the wrong way around? (edited)

    No
(do you even lift bro? ) (edited)

Good price, but as for me, working out on your own at home is quite boring and you won't do it regularly. Go for a gym membership instead. (edited)

Good luck doing chest press with these. They're that big you'll never get them up and together without your hands being way out past your shoulders
