I've had Youfibre since last year, they're expanding around the UK. They're a small broadband company that doesn't charge excessive fees like other major companies. Currently, they have deals on...

50 Mbps Download/Upload - £15 (Social Tariff for low income households receiving state benifits)

150Mbps Download/Upload - £21.99

500Mbps Download/Upload - £27.99

I've received an email from Youfibre confirming they'll never increase their prices during mid contract.

I had Youfibre for about 6 months in 2022. I knew I was moving house but I was at the end of my Vodafone contract. YouFibre had just started up in the town I was living in and were beating Lightspeed Broadband to rolling out connections. Lightspeed had also just setup in the town.

Anyway cutting a short story even shorter. They offered me 500Mb for £23 a month. They said if I want I can have 10Gb (10,000Mb) for half price, so £125pm instead of £250pm. I went for the 500Mb. I told them I would be selling up and they put it in writing if they couldn't supply me in the new location they would end the contract when I live. They honoured that deal.

Overall YouFibre were flawless. I don't like the Eero wifi point they supply. So I replaced that with a DLink router. Once the contract ended I sent all the equipment back and now I am connected up in my new place with Now broadband and get 46Mb :/

YouFibre were great, customer service was great. Recommended. If they ever start up where I live now some 150 miles away then I'll sign up with them. Not due to get FTTP where I live until October so I'm on PotatoBand until then. Sad times, but ah the memories.

It’s not a special term, it’s in there T&C if you move outside a youfibre area they will end the contract for free

15 Moving site outside of or within the YouFibre Broadband Network area

15.1 To a site outside our network.
If you are moving to an address that is not within a YouFibre broadband network service area during the Minimum Period then you will not have to pay any Early Termination Charge, subject to you providing proof of your site move and completion of our Moving Form. Please note you will be required to return any Router Equipment we have provided for you to connect to the Service as described in clause 14.

Just a quick heads up, they allowed me to sign up to a contract last week but I couldn't book an installation appointment. Turns out the people who build the network haven't actually released appointments for my area yet and they couldn't give me an ETA. Apparently it should be soon but they couldn't even give me a "weeks or months" timeframe.

Just something to bear in mind if your cancelling or going to cancel an existing contract with the idea of getting YouFibre.

Flashbacks of exactly this scenario when I joined youfibre (3 month wait).

Been with them for 18 months on the 1,000 Mbps package. Been absolutely brilliant. One period of downtime when high winds damaged the cable overhead. We reported late on a Wednesday evening, had 4 guys pulling the new cable over by 9am Friday morning, all up and running before lunch.

The underrated feature is the upload speed. Major companies cap the upload speed dramatically. With Youfibre you'll get about the same upload speed as your download speed.

I was with Talktalk for years, they kept increasing the prices during mid contract. That's even without the inflation. Sneaky.

Your comment about never increasing prices mid contract didn’t quite match what your email screenshot says. They say that for 2023 they’ll not increase the prices for customers in contract.

Since these are 24 month contracts, there is nothing to say they won’t try to increase the pricing next year while still in contract.

I’ve not seen their contracts and what they say about increases so it’s unclear if you’d be tied in to the increase or if you’d be free to leave early if it negatively impacted you.

YouFibre covgerage is all over the uk but only in very selective towns and cities, save yourself the effort of plugging in your data to get rejected for unavailability, see if it's near to you from this map:

Sometimes think broadband data is not fully updated.

A friend of mine thought he couldn't get community fibre after checking think broadband..
But I knew it was rolled out in his area.. Checking directly on the community fibre website.. He could confirm it was available.

So not checking directly with the provider is not the best strategy

150 meg, I wish I could get 10 I’m with BT who are happy to take my money and not give me the service. (edited)
    Ray_DJ's avatar
What service were you advertised? Usually there's a "minimum speed guarantee" or whatever, if you're not getting the advertised speeds when hooked up to the router via ethernet (providing the router the best chance to well, deliver good performance), then it could be grounds to terminate the contract

Managed to negotiate against VM and got 1gb for 25.99 for 24 MTHS so looking forward to trying youfibre out.
    jaydizz's avatar
How'd you manage that? Did they realise they were in competitinon with YouFibre in your area?

So so company, bad customer service experience and be prepared for websites to think you're in another country.... Bizarre, bit I've been with them since October and occasionally Amazon thinks I'm in the US, some sites think Germany and Xbox just keeps telling me to update my location. Had a tech support ticket open since November and it's still not resolved....

Dinosaurs like BT, TalkTalk, Plusnet need to disappear...we need speedy internet for less money!
    mark6220's avatar
I have two accounts with BT at two houses. I had a security issue with one account on Friday. They spent 75 minutes dealing with it. I have a memory impairment and the dinosaurs treated me with utmost respect as they have done with other family members at my other house.
BT does cost more but their customer service is exemplary. No other company I've dealt with are so professional and respectful. I can also understand what they say
If only more companies behaved like dinosaurs.

I fully appreciate that experiences will vary from person to person and naturally by each installation team, but I had my 1Gb You Fibre installed today and I can't say enough good things about them! The two chaps were happy, helpful, courteous and accommodated my every wish when it came to hiding the external box and internal routing.

Just thought it was worth providing some positive feedback for others, plus at 944Mb up and down you can't really complain too much

Pffttt, I presigned up with these guys with some Halloween offer back in 2021, still not actually available though...
    mctrials23's avatar
As in set up a direct debit or registered interest because they were coming to your area soon?
  16. deleted2901939's avatar
would be great if they kept to their build time. They installed the CBT on the pole outside my house last September. We were due to have it in January, then it slipped to March, now May.
  17. uchman365's avatar
We moved to a new city last year, signed up with them a month before move date, gave installation date for day after we move in but a week before we moved in, the engineers already attended and did all the cabling into the property so that by the time we moved, they only needed half hour to install the box inside and activate. Steady top speed, no downtime since then. Awesome

Merchant markets the £15m/50mbps 24m product as a social tariff only available to people claiming certain benefits,
...we’ve introduced the YouFibre Social Tariff to support low income households.
...available at a discounted rate for those in receipt of qualifying state benefits.
...who receive any of the following benefits: Income Support, Pension Credit, Income-related Job Seekers Allowance, Housing Benefit, Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance, Universal Credit.
    youfibre.com/soc…ff/

and if exclusive to benefit claimants this kinda leaves the deal title misleading.

Thanks. I've corrected the title. You're right. The 50mbps Download/upload speed wasn't advertised on their main page. I didn't know. (edited)

Can’t get these guys to use my existing fibre into my house, insist on running their own (this is the actual piece of fibre from the CSP box outside my front door to the ONT in a cupboard in the middle of my house). Had to decline them on that basis.
I understand that they have to run their own fibre from infrastructure to my house but then they should be able to use the existing fibre into the property, just needs resplicing. (edited)
    unisoftenterprises's avatar
They are not supposed to touch other operators installations hence using their own fibre and termination entry boxes.
  21. sumpter's avatar
Sadly their infrastructure side Netomnia is far inferior to Openreach, or at least that has been my experience.

I had 3 attempted installs of YouFibe, until they eventually said I need a wayleave to dig up my driveway and lay a new line.

I didn't trust the competency of the engineers so cancelled the install. Signed up with Vodafone and Openreach connected me with no digging required!
    deleted2901939's avatar
how is XGS-PON 'inferior' to PON? hardly their fault if they need wayleaves, that's the law. (edited)
