I've bought it anyway as I may just end up building it myself but I fear this set will probably end up as an expensive paper weight once the app stops working on devices in the future.

Think it was just under 24hr. Didn't even get the email with code, just worked.
You know what, you genuinely have given me something to think about there. Never even crossed my mind that this could (likely will) be an issue. Wanted this for the MOC Johnny 5/short circuit build too.
Its for these reasons i hope Lego goes with the bluetooth remotes in future. Mobile apps are fine until a bug or lack of support kills it. Thanks for the reply and enjoy the build if you do end up doing it yourself.
