Introducing Blink Video Doorbell | Two-way audio, HD video, motion and chime app alerts, easy setup, weather resistant and Alexa enabled — wired or wire free

  • Answer your door, no matter where you are, from your smartphone with 1080p HD day and infrared night video, and two-way audio.
  • Experience long-lasting battery life, customised alerts, privacy settings and more.
  • Get alerts when motion is detected or someone presses Blink Video Doorbell. Connect to existing doorbell wiring or pair with a Sync Module (sold separately) to engage live view and two-way audio on demand.
  • Choose to save and share clips in the cloud with a free trial of the Blink Subscription Plan, or locally with the Sync Module 2 and USB drive (each sold separately).
  • Designed for every home, go wire free or connect to existing doorbell wiring to also sound your current indoor bell. Without wiring, you can use your Blink Mini camera (sold separately) as an indoor plug-in chime.
  • Set it up yourself within minutes, with the two included AA lithium batteries, and then connect to Wi-Fi using the app. The newly designed internal battery seal provides IP54 weather resistance rating.
  • Works with Alexa: receive alerts and answer with two-way audio. When wired or when paired with a Sync Module, just ask Alexa to answer the front door.
  • Includes: a Blink Video Doorbell and mounting kit (including screws and fixings). Does not include a Sync Module 2, which can be found in all “Systems” above (recommended for optimal use while on battery).

    Are these better than Ring?

I bought the Blink because I didn't want to pay the subscription fee that Ring charge. Mine has been running since July 2022 and no battery issues. There is a delay to load the video if someone rings the doorbell but I never use that, even when I'm out. It will still record video of the doorbell press. Have it linked to my Alexa speakers and Blink Indoor camera, they sound when the button is pressed, as well as my phone. It is possible to wire it to an existing 'wired' doorbell chime but it needs to meet a certain specs, Voltage of the transformer I think, mine wasn't compatible.

I would say give it a skip. It looks cheap to begin with, which it is to be honest but doesn't work very well so you instead pay a bit more and go for Eufy etc. Here are the problems with it.

    - It takes ages to load the video/live view, the person who pressed the bell in most cases would have already left, so good luck if you dreaming about talking to person from your phone.
    - The video quality is average but terrible in night.
    - You can't have live view continuously so, can't connect to a tablet or screen and use it as live camera.. (not a biggie since many doorbell cameras are same)-
    - Even though it say wired but it still works on batteries, so the wire is just to connect to conventional chime and not to power it.
    - It recommends using another indoor camera as chime if not alexa but that's pretty foolish, why would I have another camera/mic connected to internet watching/listening instead of a dummy chime like Ring etc.
    - This one is very annoying, it generates dozens to hundreds of clips everyday from motion detection but when using your local storage and if you don have subscription then it won't let you multi delete the clips, you first have to play each one of it and then delete it, Not only that, when the storage if full, it doesn't recycle/overwrite, it simply stops storing it. This is to force you to get a subscription. (edited)

I’ve had mine for 8 months now and still the batteries are going strong.

Had mine 1 week (wired) and it wants new batteries. Baffled… I must be doing something wrong
  4. jetskichimp's avatar
Have one, not that impressed , new batteries needed after 7 months.
Does not ring on mobile phone when doorbell pushed , just on the Echo and it's too darn quiet.
It is average tbh, once it breaks I will get something else that actually rings on our mobile phones.
Night camera is ok, seen Badger and Fox in our front garden area, picture quality is ok.

If you use a phone like a Huawei or Honor they have strong battery savers and shut down apps in the background. You can change the setting in the battery menu on your phone.

Is the storage to be bought separately or is it built into the sync module. If sold separately Where's the best option/price to buy it from? Appreciate a link to it. Thanks! BTW have purchased using the sign up and collected nectar points. I'm going to try using this on our campervan. Am really impressed with our Ring doorbell (wired) and wanted to buy Blink to compare but needed something we could take away as well as use on the drive. Planning to attach with magnets. My idea in my head only and no idea if it will actually work but when sleeping in the van at 3am in the morning on my sisters driveway at least we might be able to see the little s*** who tried our van.

You need a separate usb. I'm currently using this usb SanDisk Black 16GB 3.0 Flash Drive USB amzn.eu/d/g…Ihg but obviously the bigger the better.

If taking it away I presume you know you'll need to have the sync module plugged in to a power socket and connected to your WiFi (you can presumably use a hotspot on your phone, just don't forget to leave hotspot on, and make sure you have enough data on you phone tariff)

Can anyone kindly advise me how to pick wired option from only? Thank you
    ashyt16turbo's avatar
It does both, you don't need a wired option.
  10. dcx_badass's avatar
These can't record and live view at the same time without a subscription, makes them useless and wipes out the whole point of local recording.
    AVJaysonAV's avatar
Don’t think that would bother most people, for the price
  11. weirdo's avatar
For those asking about a chime unit, you can use the Echo Flex as a chime. Only £9.99 but I've personally not tried one before with the Blink doorbell so cannot comment on performance. (edited)
  12. AncientYouth's avatar
if you want an indoor chime get the mini indoor camera and it will act as a chime and camera,

very good doorbell for the money.....i paid a lot more for mine..

no subscription required, can record on a memory stick plugged into the sys module (edited)
    Serpico73's avatar
Sorry for the stupid question, if the camera is set up to use as a chime can you disable the motion sensor on it or does it need to be constantly monitoring? Does this then send an alert if it detects motion?

    Great deal
I bought this set up on Black Friday and so far very happy with it 🐾

Just FYI, with the Blink doorbell if someone pushes the button (correct me if I'm wrong as I'd like it to be user error) but you cannot click on the notification and then speak to the person live to say you're not it and leave the parcel round the back. Whenever someone has pushed our Blink doorbell I've had to wait over a minute for the recording to stop & save and the person to have left before I can view the recording to see who it was. If you want this feature you need to pay a monthly subscription fee.
    pnewton84's avatar
That’s odd, I don’t subscribe but when someone presses the doorbell I can see them and also talk to them. It just doesn’t record that conversation. I have the same doorbell on this offer
  15. AncientYouth's avatar
i guess in the end it comes down to: personal needs and price vs options

i personally do not want to spend ages watching or worrying about everything that happens near my front door,
in reality, its handy as a doorbell and to talk to people remotely if needed,,,,,,,,,,,,or to View and not answer the door to salespeople and other unwanted cold callers
    AVJaysonAV's avatar
I’m exactly the same. Just need something to view who’s at the door when I’m not in

Does this require subscription? How does sync module 2 work? Thanks
    daazzaa92's avatar
Sync module from what I believe allows you to locally record footage onto a usb stick plugged into the module. I also believe it's required for anytime viewing eg. When you wish to look but no ones actually pressed the button
  17. HOTPOT's avatar
Please correct me it I'm wrong, but I believe these don't have a chime unit. You have to use a camera as one??? If so is there a third party option.
    SatiricalSloth's avatar
You can use an Echo to chime or make an announcement, but there's a few seconds delay, at least for me
  18. bobbyj1984's avatar
Does this have motion detection? Some are able to detect a human type figure and send an alert if they don't push the button, e.g burglars etc
    Happychappys's avatar
    Or the Police
  19. Herniol's avatar
    Just grabbed one, thanks!

How's the motion detection on these?
    Khio77's avatar
Motion detection is really good and can be adjusted via the app
  21. Fazia_Omar's avatar
Is this same as ring doorbell?
    soops's avatar
Works similar. But cheaper to run as no subscription charges.

Is it worth getting one with a Sync module, or itll be alright without it?
    AncientYouth's avatar
sync module makes all the difference
  25. giltbrook's avatar
Can anyone recommend a stand alone transformer to power this, and also say if the batteries have to be left in the doorbell when transformer power is used.
  26. Bobo's avatar
Does the sync actually work? I thought I read in their technical forums saving to local storage wasn’t working properly.
    ZaGaZ's avatar
Mine has saved to local storage flawlessly for 6 months
  27. jonesjd's avatar
Accessing local USB clips takes longer than cloud storage clips which shouldn't be the case. I'm hoping someone comes up with a firmware hack for this.
  28. 2ToneGuy's avatar
Sweet got the module for £15 via £5 off will sell the doorbell for £30 as already have 1

only you can decide that , this a door bell .... but you can add more cameras as needed
you need to weigh up needs vs costs
