Won't be nationwide why would they when they can still rip us off in other area's

SB Ashton under lyne has 132 for petrol and 152 diesel.
    Spacehduk's avatar
I think I paid £151.9 for diesel at Greater Manchester Costco at the weekend, so 152 to the general public is a good price.

This infuriates me …. Sainsburys will buy it in at a certain price and if one sainsburys can offer it cheaper and still make a profit why can’t the others …. Just wait till they publish their profits and the gov won’t do anything as they happy to screw us on the tax … this is what sainsburys say We want to ensure our petrol stations remain competitive within their local area, offering customers a fair price wherever they live. We therefore adjust the price at each station using locally gathered pricing information.

Companies are not your friend, they're trying to make as much money as possible. The price they charge is the most they think they can get away with and that's based on supply and demand.

If you were selling something on, say, eBay and you found out you could get more if you sold it somewhere else you'd do it too. That's just basic economics.

I’m tired of petrol station chasing. I decided to buy an electric car and charge at night at home. No fuss.

I was reading this in hope of you saying you bought your own petrol station but you went to the dark side

Thanks. But 444 mile round trip means it doesn't work out for me

1.51 for petrol on average diesel 169.9 for us, ridiculous difference (edited)
  8. crazy_b's avatar
22p difference !!!! Total rip for diesel drivers when both fuels cost the same to make
    Mooney_70's avatar
Diesel will be cheaper to make than petrol. Diesel used to be at least 4p a litre cheaper than petrol years ago. The last time I saw diesel cheaper than petrol was in the isle of wight in 2015 granted it was only 1p cheaper. But everywhere else it was 4p dearer than petrol. The change in prices happened when the government encouraged more people to drive diesel cars. The large difference in price these days isn't really justified. It's just another way to try and get people to ditch diesel cars.

Going electric anyway. Sick of this price fixing and these petrol companies and supply chains ripping us off.
    xxbluedragonxx's avatar
Don’t worry, it will happen to electricity too. Captive audiences are such rich pickings to exploit! (edited)

132.7 per litre Morrison's Cheadle Heath (3.7 miles away)

146.9 petrol and 169.9 at our local sainsbury in camberley...RIP off . i am boycotting them for the rip off ...no shopping anytime soon ...Greedy opportunistic ....
same for Tesco's ..boycotting them also ... (edited)
    Spacehduk's avatar
Is it cheaper anywhere else nearby??
  13. 3LeggedDog's avatar
When is electric coming back down to 30p/kwh?
  14. fatboyonadiet's avatar
A lot of SBs and Asda's around Greater Manchester are doing petrol at 132.7 / 132.9
  15. ADDYA's avatar
Sainsbury's Middlesbrough 141.9 unleaded 162.9 diesel,so Cheadle Sainsbury's are still making a profit and are selling around 8p per litre less than Middlesbrough absolute rip off ps don't forget the 12p litre fuel duty rise next month which was hidden in (c)hunts budget (edited)
  16. duke's avatar
Norwich area stuck at 168.9 diesel for weeks now.
It's a cosy cartel now the Issa brothers don't want to drop Asda fuel.
Luckily there are some Esso and Shell garages I pass further away at a more digestible 163p.
    A sad state of affairs.

    Same out in East Devon/Exeter.
  17. GJB1984's avatar
Why is petrol always cheaper in Manchester compared to everywhere else?
    Brian_RRey's avatar
It's only some outer parts of Greater Manchester that are so cheap. I live about 4 miles from the centre of Manchester and the cheapest price of unleaded near me is about 1.40
  18. xxbluedragonxx's avatar
Call me when it’s back down under a pound
  19. markpj777's avatar
Still 173 for diesel where we are.

OMG... We all go crazy cos petrol is down to 1.34 a litre It wasn't that long ago it was a pound. It slowly went up then a massive spike and a very slow decline....we all got used to the high price and so didn't bother moaning any more when it settled at a high price....i guarantee it'll be exactly the same for energy costs. Still, I guess the government has to pay for covid some how...either direct or indirect taxes, we all pay for it in the end so let's stop going on strike everywhere cos if the government keeps bailing everyone out the prices just go up again to pay for it all...what do you think drives inflation. We've all gone mad!.... And here's the other con, back end of this year inflation will be down, great news....no, cos inflation measures today's prices to what they were 12 months ago. Smoke n mirrors guys smoke n mirrors! (edited)
    camaj's avatar
Inflation isn't driving by wage rises and giving up isn't a solution
  22. nich2002's avatar
Why has this turned into a forum for people to moan about the cost of things? If you don't want to pay it, don't buy it. Simple.
    camaj's avatar
Unfortunately people think that they have to have something and if that breaks the bank then it's someone elses fault because doing without isn't an option. I wonder how many people are still wasting fuel by leaving their engine running when stationary or making unnecessary journeys or driving further to save time.
  23. Dolphin01's avatar
Get the petrol prices app. I have been using it for months. On the occasion I have to drive a distance always check local area for petrol prices. Found a local independent who is always cheaper than supermarket
  24. Bambibambo's avatar
At BEST petrol mid 140's and diesel mid 170's in Suffolk :/

Still £1.44 petrol and £1.63 diesel in Darlington sainsburys. Yet bishop Auckland sainsburys which is 20mins drive away you can take away 10p p.litre on both fuels. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
  27. smith2001uk's avatar
in our area, they don't seem to want to breach the 160.9p amount for diesel unfortunately. heat
    haiderinho's avatar
in Luton they wont go below 171.9 for diesel
  28. ThomasWeatherall's avatar
Seems Sainsburys, asda and morrisons around the outskirts of Greater Manchester have brought it closer to the prices petrol should be. Tesco still haven't shifted
  29. lindy526's avatar
1.67 at the supermarkets around us in Grimsby Cleethorpes area, yet at the Esso ones on the A180 it's 1.59

Cheapest in North Kent is still £148.9 😡
    999's avatar
Asda Chatham is less than that isn't it? I get Diesel there and it's 156. I'm sure petrol was 137 ish
  33. HarvJH's avatar
😩 I paid 168.9p a litre for diesel earlier at Sainsbury’s in Ipswich
    ashmac's avatar
I live near op garage and there’s a BP garage near me also and there diesel is only £1.62 , I rather put Bp than cheap supermarket though as long term better for engine especially with diesel not petrol
  34. jaks101's avatar
    151p diesel at Morrisons Dukinfield
  35. xenole's avatar
Sure it was 138.9p at Cheadle a couple of days ago. The kiosk door was broken in the morning so the petrol station was closed whjlst they repaired it. Went to Sainsbury Denton later and paid 132.9p
146.9p at the Grimsby Sainsbury today. A good £7 a tank more than Manchester, so I'm putting a small amount in tomorrow before driving to Manchester for work and I'll fill up there.

Some places have unleaded at a good £12+ more for a 50-55 litre tank compared to Manchester, and these are chain petrol stations rather than small independents.

I am no longer sure why I should celebrate this when hearing that they all make profits they have never made before, for me this is one reason more to drive as less as possible
    nich2002's avatar
I know, right? How dare these companies make profits to fund improvements in green energy production and to develop the electric car-charging infrastructure that is required to meet the government's plan to phase out fossil fuelled vehicles by 2035!! They should reduce the cost of fuel to cost price IMMEDIATELY so they all go bust and shut down so we don't have any petrol or diesel to run our cars and put thousands of people out of jobs! I don't know how they sleep at night.
  37. B.Yoda's avatar
1.51 for unleaded where we are price hasn't moved for weeks
  38. Robbo2's avatar
On my way down from Scotland to fill up!
  39. luke_sculthorp's avatar
It's nice to see prices going back down a bit but I cant help to think that the beginning of lockdown Diesel was 99p per litre, so now the prices are still more than 50% more than 2/3 years ago
    yourmam84's avatar
That was a bit of an oddity though. No-one was buying fuel and it probably costs to hold onto it/maintain purchasing contracts with suppliers so they had to practically give it away back then.
