It is, but apart from some screen protector issues reported by a small proportion of buyers, it appears to be quite a robust phone. A friend of mine has had it from launch, and it's not been treated kindly (including immersion in water for 10min to test its IPX8 rating!!), and it's still going like a champ with zero issues to the inner screen or hinge.

Granted JerryRig finds the inner screen scratches easily, but overall he was very impressed with how robust the hinge is and incredibly how no dust appears to get into the hinge even when smeared with dirt and debris. He gave it a pass, when many of OnePlus's offerings have failed these 'tests'.

From multiple rumours, Apple still appears to be struggling with cracks in folding screen prototypes which have delayed potential launches by years. The Fold 4 hinge and screen has a MTBF of 250K folds.

I bought the Giffgaff 'good' deal for £649 which came immaculate with 2024 warranty, so I'll be keeping it. Yes it's bulky when folded, but I can't now go back to a standard phone after getting used to reading my Pressreader mags on a 7 inch AMOLED tablet any time I have a few min. Battery life is around 7-8 SOT, and the thing just flies.

Kudos to Samsung for sticking it out with foldables year after year with incremental improvements. Compared to Apple which appears to be churning out 'new' versions of the iPhone X year after year, this is true, bleeding edge smartphone innovation from Samsung.

It's far from perfect, but for me it does admirably well and I'm fricking loving it!!

For those people on the fence, I bought this from Giffgaff for £729 two months ago.
It is by far the best phone I have ever used.
The front screen is wider than the fold 3 and is very easy to get used to. I am typing on that now.
Having a tablet in your pocket is a total game changer.
As for those complaining about the bulkiness, I switched from an iPhone 13 pro Max, and there wasn't much difference in the weight. You get used to the phone being thick.

As for a case, after ordering 5-6 expensive cases, this one worked the best for me:

It might be helpful to read a few reviews of this shoddy company before you step in...

By shoddy company I thought you must have meant the third party ebay seller, not Samsung themselves (edited)

My current phone. Best phone I've ever had.

It's basically 2 phones smashed together with a prominent crease. Barely pocketable - an absolute brick with the case. Gotta make sure your belt is tight or your trousers end up round your ankles
    wrcallar's avatar
Don't notice the crease at all when using the phone

Says samsung warranty until August 2024. Anyone bought a used Samsung item without the original purchase receipt and successfully claimed on Samsung warranty? Do they just look at the imei / serial number and honour anything under 2 years old? (edited)
    Leon_YQY's avatar
Yes, the warranty is transferable when buying used.

I bought excellent and got 512GB model. Still testing and deciding whether to keep it or not. I'm glad to see, that screen is big enough to work on remote servers. It could potentially replace S6 lite tablet which I used on recent trip to work remotely. This will help shed 600g from my hand baggage. Now the question is, how much 600g is worth in terms of money.

Another thing is case. Every case model has some bad reviews and almost all of them are expensive. So at the moment Fold is only used at home. (edited)

It's quite a versatile handset if you get a good one that hasn't been abused as they are prone to damaged displays. For the case, get one of the hard plastic ones with a hinge protector of some kind (the magnetic hinge cover ones are the best imo).
  8. plewis00's avatar
The price is great but the cosmetic condition suggests it's been used a fair bit beforehand. Personally I would look for one that's near new so you know it's not been used a lot before you get it, over time these are prone to various screen and hinge faults (won't fully open) and you want to avoid that, obviously - especially as that will make it virtually unsellable when you replace it. I do like the Fold devices though and when I bought mine, I bought in 'as new' condition and have looked after it. (edited)

Most of us were lucky enough to get pristine condition devices graded as 'good' on the Giffgaff deal. I got two, both looked new with late 2024 Samsung warranty. Not a single scratch anywhere, battery health 99%. Guess we got lucky with the absence of any standards for grading at Giffgaff! (edited)

Is this seller selling several or just one? If several, are all the description of the damages (particularly the 6/10 outside screen) accurate on all or is it just a generic description?
    Zosia's avatar
Pictures of scratches are examples how it can look, but it doesn't mean it will be scratched. It say's it in description. They sell number of phones, not just one.

Great phone just not the best condition on this deal 😪

Would ya'll suggest to sell a s22 ultra for this?
    plewis00's avatar
Do you want a folding phone is the question - they are quite different so unless you just want a new phone and need the folding features, you really don't need to change. And the S22 Ultra is quite high-end already.

Fantastic deal, fantastic seller and fantastic phone. I've switched back and forth between iPhone 13, pixel 7 and Folds and nothing comes close to these.
    Wolfyyy's avatar
I dont know... the multi tasking feature which was a big USP is virtually useless - impossible to use the single screens/ front screen due to narrowness and poor app optimisation (lot of apps also don't even support). Would def pay £500-£600 tho

Got the fold 3 from clove in July around this price referbished. Phone has been good it didn't come with a screen protector it was removed. After months of usage it has developed a small scratch that is running down half of the screen in the middle. It's very faint but it's there. I have a full folding case that protects every corner of the phone and hasn't been dropped or looked after harshly. I rarely opened the screen only a few times a day and when I open it I leave it opened I normally use the phone at work with the smallest screen and when I get home I use/open the big screen. Long term real life durability has to be questioned I think. (edited)

I have a similar issue with mine, I took the screen protector off it as the protector had started to bubble

I think my small scratch was caused by the spen, I think I must have used it too heavily when swiping and that's caused the small scratch.

Similar experience, it's barely noticeable but when I notice it I can't not notice it!

Btw ssjinzo, if you use the phone and browsers in Dark Mode, you won't notice it at all

I can only speak for myself but I think the scratch on mine is my own fault really

I have this 256GB mobile with the Spigen slim armour Pro case to protect the spine. Very pleased with full screen mode size and quality excellent for viewing pics movies gaming and websites with lots of data. Folded it is bulky and heavy in the pocket. Front screen is a little narrow compared to my Note, but got used to it and fine taking pics texting email etc. This is a mobile built for tablet use not portability. I luv it and will upgrade when 8K is available.

this is my current phone at 512gb and its the best phone ive had, excellent all rounder and more robust than i imagined. only pain is the cases available are awful and add a lot of bulk to an already hefty phone.
  20. LiviuRoşca's avatar
Clearly a must have device for this price but you must be the right person for this. I’m not, i have an iPhone, 2 iPads, one Apple Watch and a Oneplus 7 Pro. Heat added.

I tried this phone 2 times but couldn't get adjusted to the thickness. I finally realized that I couldn't type it properly on it either on the inner screen and outer screen. Some of the apps show more information on the normal phone screen. I would definitely want to try again once oppo find N2 type foldable comes out. Of course, cameras are average compared to other phones like the Pixel 7 pro or S23 ultra.

Mine arrived with one scratch on front screen, otherwise pristine with warranty until February 2025! Great phone, a bit bulky and heavy but for the price a bargain and Samsung said warranty would only be a problem without receipt if it’s was locked.

No scuffs on the outer edges? Mines full of them even worse than the pics

3 months in and my screen has debris behind it and has messed up the panel. Wish me luck with Samsung!
