Lovely stuff but still find the jump from 49 hard to accept. They should've increased more gradually IMO. There must be lots of people like me who find it's just slipped out of their price range

Plenty of nice peaty alternatives to be had for less. Recommend port Charlotte to anyone who likes this. (edited)

Port Charlotte is good but I don’t think it’s really similar to 16, other than being peaty.

Price of this just keeps going up and up. It’s very good but I think you can get better alternatives for the price

A comment on NAS (non age statement) whiskies.

This only means that there can be 2 or more ages of whisky ages in there. Legally you then need to call it a NAS. That could be 7 or 17 years old, dont let no age statements put you off a great whisky.

66 quid for this and that's supposed to be a bargain! No thanks Diagio. This used to be £49 before the sales not so long ago, and the price then was already questionable for the quality of the expression. There are better alternatives than this. (edited)

Agreed! I used to get this at costco for £46 on a regular basis! And that wasn't on offer! Price has gone through the roof! (edited)

Only gonna get more expensive when the tax goes up in August, best buying what you like now.

Tis a nice tipple, but you used to be able to buy this for £40 (edited)

I don’t remember ever seeing it below the high 40s? Earliest receipt I have is for £48.50 in 2015.

Oh, and what’s this about the tax going up? (edited)

It's nice, but will always be a £40 bottle to me.

    I blame the Americans.

Little more than the last two I bought but stocks are running low and it's one of my favourites. I'm in! Thanks OP

If you need it then it’s at least less than the horrendous new RRP, but be aware that it went down to £54.66 in November, so close to the good old days.

With the new tax coming in, I doubt we'll see that price again, 😥

I do wonder if Lagavulin will find they’ve priced themselves out given they’ve increased the price of this much more than the general rise. Cost of living’s higher. Selling fewer bottles at a higher price isn’t necessarily going to make them more money.

asian market will make up for that (edited)

Diageo have brought in the 8 year old as the standard Lagavulin which has allowed them in marketing terms to push the 16 up market to presumably optimise stocks. Word has it that the whole reason that the 16 yo became standard was because they couldnt give the stuff away in the 80s and stocks of old casks built up.
    David_MorganYPj's avatar
    Would you recommend the 8?

I've been trying various bottles of whisky and I do prefer cask strength bottles to the 40-odd percent ones on general sale in the uk, found them to be really watered down and lacking taste in comparison. Just a personal preference!

This or Glen Scotia Victoriana for £65 (+p&p if order less than £100) from Master Of Malt?
    tomtomtommy's avatar
Victoriana out of these two but diffrerent styles really ..... if you want sherry an peat combo like Laga16 then Sanaig/Loch Gorm/Uigeadail/Ledaig 18 instead for around the samer price bracket
