    HP... booooo

Those new drivers won't let your printer use any third party cartridges.

Unfortunately, the printer is rig so you can't use the ink once you cancel your subscription.

Got one which came with 9 months free print a few months back, selected the 700 pages and it served me well with university and college printing needs. Recommended a friend and got a further 3 months free. No printing nor connection issues but as some have said it is not for everyone but form me 1 year of free printing is worth £40; when deal finishes will look for deals on HP cartridges. Biggest benefit is to print everything I and my family/friends need without worrying.

It's £39.99 upfront to use this HP printer for 6 months.
You can choose between 10 pages and 700 pages every month from any plan below at no extra cost for the first 6 months.
    10 Pages/month £0.99
    50 Pages/month £2.99
    100 Pages/month £4.49
    300 Pages/month £9.99
    700 Pages/month £22.49
Hopefully after 6 months you'll have an idea which plan - if any - is suitable for your needs.

*Be mindful that everything you send to your HP WiFi connected printer can be... 'monitored.' (edited)

This is a printer. They're all junk in some way or another, from cheap "Printing as a Service" HP Envy's through your Epson EcoTanks to your A3 Brother small workgroup printer to your giant A1 plotters and Xerox MFDs.

You just have to pick the least awful one for your use case. Is this one it? Maybe.

If you don't want Printing as a Service? HP printers anywhere near the low end probably ain't for you.

    If you want:

To pay a small monthly fee.

Price your printer based on Total Cost of Ownership over the two year warranty period.

Your usage makes sense for an inkjet.

    Then it's a steal.

Unless you're printing "Test" in tiny writing on the top left of an otherwise empty page for a whole ream of paper every month, this is worth considering.

@StinkingQuentin already posted the Instant Ink prices. But it's worth noting that they aren't hard limits. There's rollover that's up to 3x your monthly page allowance and upgrade/one-off increases if needed.

The 3 month rollover means it's unlikely to cost you more if you suddenly need to go over, unless you've been right up against the page count.

For most home users I've spoken to, and some business users, Instant Ink works out cheaper than buying official cartridges and is vastly less hassle.

The print heads are built into the cartridges. If you have a print quality problem that the 2nd deep clean and a splash of Isopropyl Alcohol won't fix it's ok. You've already got a set of brand new cartridges waiting for you.

(For most business users, this probably isn't a replacement for a laser printer but it might be. You can also get HP laser printers on Instant Ink for toner which is worth looking. I've got a happy client on one.)

It's got an ADF and a plate for scanning. You can print from anything, anywhere. You can print A4 photos and never worry about the cost of ink. [edit: This specific OfficeJet doesn't do borderless printing.]

It's WiFi and you can hide it anywhere in the house you get a decent signal. You never have to go out and find Rymans don't have your cartridges in stock.

When the Envy printer sitting in the cupboard under the stairs eventually dies, I'll be getting another one.

Edit: Sign up with someone's code and get an extra free month each. Yes, the sign-up address thingy may be missing your county. They don't care. Just put in the nearest one they do have. (edited)

DON’T GET TRAPPED INTO BUYING A PRINTER THAT WILL ONLY ALLOW THEIR OVER PRICED PRINTER CARTRIDGES..
Also, this printer uses a combined single colour cartridge, would only ever buy a printer that has separate colour cartridges.

Perhaps this particular printer is a duffer, I don't know but my HP instant ink has been perfect. Bought it during lock down and signed up for the initial "high" printing allowance to cover home working and home schooling. Have since wound it down to the low allowance. In all that time I've not had a single jammed printout and the new carts always arrive well ahead of the old ones being empty. I'm not remotely fussed by not being able to buy 3rd party carts, I get as much faff free printing as I need for a couple of quid a month.

A cold vote from me due to the HP economic of not allowing 3rd party ink cartridges

    Interesting conversation.
In the market for a new all-in-one printer after the print head on a 6 year old Canon bit the dust. That printer worked great and took ~£1 third party cartridges. For a new Canon equivalent printer the cheapest 3rd party cartridges are four or five times the price.
I've only researched a few new printer types, but it seems that the days of dirt-cheap inks is over.
Happy to stand corrected if that's incorrect.

Edit: The £70 cost for a new genuine Canon print head is starting to look attractive. (edited)

    Hi,

I am also in the market for a new all in one after my old epson died. Would appreciate if you could please the details of the Canon printer you are considering.

    Thanks

I have an HP and it keeps printing the darn test page every time on account of the print heads not being aligned. That's a full printed page wasted over and over again.

You're not buying a printer (effectively HP owns the printer), but the service to print 4200 color pages over 6 months. After 6 months you throw away the printer and buy a new one. HP's version of reuse, reduce, recycle

Can be useful say for a student, who can print a few textbooks if they are available as pdfs or copy friends notes. (edited)

You're right in that it shifts to Printing as a Service. But why throw it out after 6 months? Just pay the cheap fee for the package that's near or above your monthly usage.

£39.98 to expensive, given what many already knew from past purchases along with HPs response to latest controversy of the blatant breaking law regards competition, giving the we dont care attitude should be a clear stayaway and look elsewhere

Please avoid HP printers. It's a piece of junk with a business model to only allowed hp ink and it monitors what you print. Awful connection problem with Android phone and it had no drivers to install to be able to use from pc/laptop. Mine went straight to the charity shop.

The app hasn't been 100% reliable but it usually catches up and second click prints from my phone. Mine has essentially been plug n' play when connecting to my phone, chromebook and Windows 10 laptop.

Go with this deal mate. I was reluctant to get into instant ink but got sick and tired of 3rd ink, finding I needed to buy ink at the most inconvenient time and finally 3rd ink ruining my Epson inkjet.

Just bought a HP office jet and so far it's looking great. 9 months free ink, plus one extra month from a referral code and ink prices starting at 99p when offer finishes.

Sometimes it's worth the peace of mind.

If you're after a cheap inkjet, I think you'll struggle to beat a deal like this (edited)

Ok so all the comments put me off buying this oand any HP printer.
But can anyone recommend all In one
Printer that is cheap on 3rd party ink and doesn't cost £250 or more. (edited)
    johnnystorm's avatar

£250 would buy you unlimited printing for a about 5 years buying HP instant ink printers. People however seem to get their knickers in a twist that HP let you have a printer cheap because you're buying their cartridges as opposed to copies.
