Cheap but Lyca is no good. Had it for a test and it is worst of all there, same like Vectone mobile. Roaming does not work, or works when it likes..had manually switch to roaming in settings of Lyca Mobile services app, worked for few hours and then gone for a day. No 4G calling, no WIFI calling. Info in their app is unclear, won't show ho many international mins you have used(had 100mins as standard) data usage has 4-6 hours delay and always in 40MB segments. CS non existent if you need to contact.

Lebara £1.99 for 12GB for 6 months is far better (edited)

Their CS is slightly poor compared to other providers. They seem to be in a hurry to close the call.

To me, roaming was working in the EU though. They do not have 4G calling or Wi-Fi calling. I think that is why their plans are cheaper.

I would agree Lyca are sketchy at best. Full signal on 4g and download speeds under 5mb/s. Turn off auto renewal on their app and it magically turns itself back on everytime and they help themselves to the money. I had to cancel my bank card and raise a dispute to get my money back. Avoid.

Oh yeah. I have requested PAC, moved number to another provider and they still were charging me for 3 months until have cancelled debit card. Lyca is rubbish, avoid.

I'd avoid Lyca if similar options are available. Bad network coverage, annoying spam texts promotions that don't stop even after you turn them off.

If you can get a similar Lebara deal just go with that.

Lyca good for Turkey if anyone is going.
Roaming is bang on! No issues and you also get 50 international minutes whilst roaming.
    In the UK absolute joke.

I've found coverage good, only used it for tethering in mobile broadband dongle in caravan, however took the smarty deal and want to cancel Lyca but seem to be unable to cancel renewal through app, everytime I click to turn off auto renew it just clicks back on without touching it.
Given the comments on customer service I think I might just port number out (edited)

if you go to the saved card details page and delete all details there, it will turn off auto renew too

    Terrible company - avoid!

I had 3 sims with them (for me and 2 children) on 6-month offers. After 2 months or so they said there was a problem with my credit card having expired, so said (after hours and hours of trying to contact their terrible support) that meant the deal for my daughter's phone was now void. That left me with no working phone at no notice.

There was no problem with my credit card - they happily billed the same one for my second sim some time after that.

They then did the same with my third sim - said the credit card was expired.

So 2 out of 3 sims weren't renewed by them (their fault - not mine!) and I had to move to another company, with all the hassle and days of no working phones.

2 out of 3 contracts with them were messed up - not great odds! I'd heard before about the exact same thing happening to others, but thought that it was probably rare. It isn't. I don't know if it's deliberate (get you on a cheap deal, expire the deal early on the pretence of a problem, and then expect you to pay them to get your phone working again) or if it's just incompetence. Either way, I'd recommend everyone to avoid them.

I've still got the 1 sim with them (as all this has happened recently) but I'm going to move that soon as I don't want to suddenly find my son's phone has it happen to his, too.

There's a reason all these threads about Lyca deals get lots of people warning you about the company! It seems like problems happen to lots of people. The hassle it causes isn't worth it.

I have this as a second sim (1P a month for 6 months ). Mainly use it as a backup data sim in case I run out of my O2 data.

I'm aware that o2 and Lyca use the same network, same masts, same frequency etc, but sometimes o2 has full signal, whereas Lyca has non or poor signal. how does that work ??
    Rimi's avatar
    Rimi
Never had such a situation, signal always the same as O2. But if you have it in another phone, there might be slight variation in signal strength as this is phone dependent. In my case iPhone 12 Pro Max always has better signal strength than Samsung Fold3.

Avoid. I switched because they are the only cheap option with eSIM support and I appreciate the roaming. Promised 5G but I can’t select it in my iPhone settings, not even 4G, only slightly slower LTE.

I then deleted my eSIM because I wanted to reload it on my phone, was such a hassle to figure out how to do it. I was genuinely worried my number was lost. Customer service chat is a joke, it’s like talking to a bot. When they can’t solve your issue they pretend you disconnected.

Calling them is useless, they don’t know anything and just say that they are going to escalate but nothing happens. Ended up figuring it out myself and managed switching my number to a physical SIM that I still had from them, but the website is so inconsistent and unprofessional, sometimes seems like it’s been translated from another language in Google translate.

Connection often drops from LTE to 3G, overall it’s a really bad experience, wouldn’t touch them again - I just hope porting my number back will work.

If you want eSIM just wait a few months. The next iPhone will be eSIM only in Europe and even cheaper carriers will have to adapt. Lebara already offers eSIM elsewhere.

Lloyds said they tried to take the payment insecurely and so Lloyds rejected it. The payment failure Lyca caused then cancelled the plan. Hours wasted. CS unable to resolve. Utterly useless. Bye Lyca. Hello Lebara.

Ps they have a weird 4G (LTE) vs 3G issue where data doesn’t always work unless I manually change it again and again depending on when/where it breaks. Also had issues onboarding where they forwarded my old number instead of porting correctly causing imsg registration issues. CS useless..again. (edited)

Worst CS ever. Iwas without service for several days after they supposedly transported my existing number. Waied on phone line day after day, either had call disconnected or told transferred to engineers or it was my mistake and they could see othing wrong etc. No one could call or text me - received message number no longer existed. Nightmare. Eventually ditched and moved to lebara who are easy to talk to someone and explain the situation. They got my old number back for me within hours.

You have to scan that code which came with free eSim when you ordered, there will be no new code, they just transfer your number to that eSim.

Absolutely abysmal company! Not only did *they* spam me on a near daily basis, but they clearly sold my number to third parties; I began getting far more spam calls and texts within days of joining them and had to abandon a number I'd had for well over 10 years.

And yes, I made sure I'd opted out of all marketing and third party stuff. I

I went back to id. I've tried others recently, but Three's coverage in my area is great and id never spammed me or created any other issues in the past. (edited)

Very hit and miss experience here. Ported my wife’s number over to a cheap deal 6 months ago and it all worked fine. On the other hand, I’ve just ported in to lyca but the sim they sent me won’t activate and I have no idea how to do so. I’ve ordered a new Lebara sim and hope to port out as soon as possible. I got the distinct impression too that the CS staff make things up to get you off the phone. A 👎 from me (edited)
