Unbelievably good monitor. Got it for a similar price at release and it's by far the best QHD monitor you can get outside of the new OLED panels (for gaming only, that is).

Until OLED is competitive for actual PC usage, not just gaming, then I'd argue this is the best monitor you can get outside of the high end mini-LED options, and even those have their issues due to the newer tech.

FWIW, side by side with the Gigabyte M32U you can barely notice the decrease in text legibility from a normal distance, but what is quite immediate is that 280hz is noticeably smoother than 144hz. To be expected as it's double the frames, but flies in the face of the people who claim going above XXXhz has no benefit.

The responsiveness is also noticeable. I don't even care that 2042/Halo/MW2 etc only run at 100fps average on my lower midrange PC (3060ti/5700G), because normal PC desktop usage and a few esports titles max out that 280hz and it feels beautiful. Helps that the pixel response times are also excellent on the monitor too. I can actually track text in a window that I'm moving quickly side to side or when scrolling (yes, no one in their right mind uses a PC like this, but the test is representative of tracking an enemy in a game for example).

If you want 4k gaming then you already have money to burn anyway, so this will be of no interest to you. I'd still make the argument that you could have a beefy 4k capable system, and then go QHD and max the framerate on every game, it's what I intend to do when I finally upgrade my PC.

For anyone who hasn't experienced above 200hz, it basically just make the game feel like a more 1:1 representation of your physical movements. There's a 500hz Alienware monitor out now that is quickly approaching the limits of what humans can actually perceive visually, and the closer we get to the inevitable 1000hz monitors then the limit becomes our peripherals (2k+ polling rate for mice would be mandatory) before we ourselves become the limit, which is where we want to be.

Only 27” and not ultrawide though. I suppose you could buy two or even three of these for the cost of a good 38” ultrawide panel however! (edited)

I have the older 1080p/400nits/240hz version of this, still going strong. Always rated Alienware highly, solid build quality, expensive but you always get what you pay for with these.
Don't know why some people hate on them? (edited)

I think people like to trash Alienware stuff because it's seen as a 'bro' gaming brand, whereas of course 'serious' enthusiasts use Samsung, LG etc. It's nonsense because just like any other company, Alienware makes good and bad products that fit specific niches. Their desktops are are a bit shoddy, but their laptops and monitors are great.

Has the technology evolved so much that it’s worth upgrading from 1440p 165hz?
    sisqoboy's avatar
    sisqoboy Author
Depeds on the specs you have in your current monitor. What do you have?
In this one the 600 nits is awesome. Not sure if you can spot the difference between 165Hz and any above....

This has better specs (higher refresh rate, higher brightness, thinner bezels) though whether you would benefit from that is up to you.
