Is the 4k version worth it over the fire TV Cube 2nd generation? I do watch 4k content via the usual apps like prime video, netflix, Disney+, plex and BT sports... (edited)

Fire tv cube has more storage and you can easily use a usb device to add more storage too. In regards to the Google TV, I don’t think the play store has a native BBC iplayer app or Channel 4 app but please correct if I’m wrong. However, you can get around that by casting from your phone if that is the case. Other than that they are fairly similar and can side load any android app on both. From my experience, the Fire TV has been more reliable in terms of consistent performance, while I don’t like the UI, it just works. The Google TV has a much nicer interface if that matters to you. I bought the HD version of this device last week from Argos for £24.99. I’m really impressed so far. I feel the interface is so much cleaner than a Fire Stick. Apps load quickly and run smoothly. I watched the F1 on it via F1 TV Pro this weekend and it was pretty flawless.

I believe it has to run from a dedicated power supply now and not just off USB.

I agree, the Chromecast interface is better than the firestick, I have both but am slowly upgrading my Firestick's to the Chromecast TV 4k devices.

I think the Chromecast may have slightly more memory or better use of memory as it doesnt buffer when streaming, Firestick can be a little intermittent at time.

They came out in September 2020. Can't see any reason to upgrade them?

id avoid these atm, it has a really bad bug with the latest firmware when ever the device goes to sleep it stops the audio completely when waking it back up and only way to fix it is to have to mess with the resolution or reboot it everytime you go to use it.

I currently have the CCwGTV but I've had a 4K Max Fire TV Stick also. Both are just as good as each other for my needs. Plex & IPTV.

Only reason use the CCwGTV over the Fire Stick is for casting my Quest 2 to it.

Why is this better than casting from my phone to a regular CC for normal day to day viewing?

Much better user experience. It has all your apps in one place and brings all the content together. All controlled by a nice remote.
You can also cast from your phone to it but I never find a need to do it anymore.
