The prices on ShopTo seem to have changed ever so slightly since first posted, so below is an updated comparison to show which credit options offer the best discounts (largest to smallest).

Thanks for this. I think I can get 2 years of extra with the £84+£40 plus £1.98 on card. Total £106.68 if my maths is up to scratch
  2. RobGMun85's avatar
Ok, if you're going to get two years, go for the 1 x £80 card for £66.85. You'll have £5 remaining to use as you wish on the PS Store.

Because if you go for 2 x £35 for a total of £61.70, you'll still need to stick in another £5 and have nothing left over in the end.

In the end it still cost you the same, but at least you'll come away with £5 more store credit than otherwise. Which i intend to use to buy Beat Saber.
    Y_G's avatar
Yeah I did this the other day. The £80 is better value than the £75. Coupled with what credit i already had, the spare credit from the £80 top up and the £5 PSN reward credit i achieved I’m sitting on £13 spare now… which I’ll use to buy another year of premium for circa £50 while also gaining another £5 PSN credit via the rewards system. Been upgraded to Shopto Gold membership again too. (edited)

2x £32 PSN credit was charged at £55.70.

That's right, I bought the same, and it come to the same amount £55.70 on Shopto. The table shows the discount prices of each credits you get. So you get 12.97% off discount with the £32 ones. Hope this helps.

Prices have changed a little so used excel solver to find best combos (was bored):

    Essential (£37.49): 1x5 (4.85) + 1x32 (27.85) + £1 on card = £33.70 for £38
    Extra (£62.99): 1x15 (13.85) + 1x45 (37.85) + £3 on card = £54.70 for £63
    Premium (£74.99): 1x30 (26.85) + 1x45 (37.85) = £64.70 for £75

(though for Essential I'd probably just go for £45 credit at £37.85, and Premium £80 credit at £66.85)

That would be for new / lapsed users only, not existing - IF the promo happens that is.

What is the maximum you can stack up? Is it the same as xbox? 3 years?
    m1c88's avatar
    About 5 or 6 years I think it's over 3 anyway I think mine runs out 2026
  7. John_Hingley's avatar
    How does this work??
    robocop999's avatar
You buy gift cards from shopto (they're % reduced e.g. you get a £50 card for £40).

Then redeem the cards in the playstation store to buy PS+, which is being reduced on 2nd June
  8. prometheusnx's avatar
Ah man, I like collecting physical, but this seems to be very very tempting. Never been a PSN subscriber before so not entirely sure what tier to look at it.
    SnoopZ's avatar
I recommend Extra, have a look what games are currently available on Extra and Premium.

How comes it only shows 25% for the premium for me but the essential and extra is still showing at full price?
    Mo2684's avatar
Sorted it now. You have to wait for the date of expiry of existing sub to end and then the discounted price appears
  10. MartinOgdenCorrigan's avatar
Right all you mathematicians, here's a question for you!!!
Because I'm far from too lazy to work this out myself, what is the cheapest way to get to the £107.40 credit mark without having too much store credit left over?

    Go........
    rfx321's avatar
    1x£45 (16%) and 2x£32 (16%) = £109 Credit / £91.55 Payment

If I have 6 months of essential left but add 12 months of extra, what would happen?
    SnoopZ's avatar
This article may help I've not read it though.

It maybe easier to upgrade your existing plan to essential then add another 12 months of Extra when it's on sale.

If you do upgrade your essential to Extra remember to turn auto renewal OFF.

Also a heads up on this before buying the subs, you get loyalty points for buying from PS Store. So make sure you're signed up to PlayStation Stars.

  13. pd4000's avatar
So if I currently have essential I need to upgrade first to extra, top up the credit with the shopto purchases and then choose “buy again” for my ps plus, considering that I’ll be on extra then?

My account expires tomorrow so would do the upgrade today and buy extra again for the following year
    logindetails's avatar
If your current essential plan expires tomorrow why bother upgrading, just let it lapse - make sure you do not have auto renew turned on. Once it's expired start a new Extra plan at the discounted price. (edited)
  14. spinach_pie's avatar
I have Premium at the moment and not really using the classics catalogue.

Anyone know how I can buy 12 months of essential at this price? The only option it gives me on the console is to extend premium?
    CraigeDavido's avatar
You need you subscription to lapse, however long you got left of premium subscription, just make sure auto renewal is turned off in settings, so it doesn't automatically charge you when your sub runs out.
  15. mar76's avatar
Coming up with £37.49 for essential. Anyone help or know why?

    50303187_1.jpg (edited)
    CraigeDavido's avatar
That's right, 25% off £50 is £37.49, then once you buy a gift card off shopto or CD Keys, you get upto 16% off that, so that brings the price you pay down a bit again, to around £34 odd.
  16. Adamski23's avatar
Is stacking still possible & if so how do you do it? I currently don’t have any subscription.
    mossmanfly's avatar
Yes stacking works. Sony only disabled it for a few months to prevent people buying lots of the normal PS+ and converting it to the top tier for cheap while they launched the new service. So probably about 3 months of not being able to stack.

If you want more than a year just keep buying them. Its direct from Sony so sign up to the 1 you want you get 12 months then go on the offer again and buy another 12 months of the same tier. Rinse and repeat as much as you like. (edited)
  17. KencoOutMyNostrils's avatar
Sorry, this has probably been asked but gets a bit confusing regardless

If I'm on premium now which expires in a few weeks, but purchase 1 year of extra here, can I then buy premium again in the next sale while on the extra plan or would I have to upgrade my Extra membership to premium?
    Raaawr's avatar
You can't buy extra while on the premium plan, only extend your premium.

Good Deal; Be good if you can stack onto present PSN subscription like for Microsoft Xbox.
    mossmanfly's avatar
You can stack and longer than the 3 years with Microsoft.
  20. repulser's avatar
I thought Sony stopped stacking until 22nd June?
    mossmanfly's avatar
They stopped stacking just before they announced how the new PS+ tiers would work in terms of existing customers with PS+ and PS Now. It meant that no one could take advantage of buying lots of standard PS+ and stacking that up before the switch over and getting the top tier PS+ for less than half price.

Once new tiers launched, then stacking was enabled again. (edited)

£33 isn't a deal in my eyes. They've just inflated the price of online play and drop it every now and then. It was always free.

I think the CEO once said they'd never charge for online play. That changed quick.
    DevilsNeverCry's avatar
You're a decade (+ change) late to be complaining about that now though?

PS Plus started as a 'value added' service, it was originally only getting access to 'extra' features/discounts and some smaller scale games on the PS3.

Once the PS4 generation kicked in, Sony shifted feet on it, because they had seen MS with XBL Gold raking in all that extra revenue by making it mandatory for online play and network/infrastructure funding.

I agree there is some price gouging, with the service jumping up from £40 to £50 baseline in the last few years, BUT I will say that IMO the games line-up for Essential has been pretty good the last couple of years, if you can get 2-3 games from your essential sub that you might have purchased over the course of a year, it's pretty much paid for itself.
  22. ZackAttack's avatar
For some reason 25% off is already showing on my account but only for premium (my current plan). Not planning on paying for premium since I've never used it.. too bad extra is not on sale 😞
    Sam.19889's avatar
You can’t buy a tier that’s lower then your current subscription and have to wait if it to expire before you can buy the extra instead of premium
  23. chris88's avatar
Waiting for mines to run out to downgrade to extra because premium isn't worth it at all.
  24. DanishT's avatar
If I have £12 balance in my psn wallet already and buy a £50 top up from Shopto , that will lead me to a shortfall of a pound or two. Can the shortfall be adjusted to my bank card or it needs all to be redeemed by psn wallet ?
    SnoopZ's avatar
You pay the shortfall via bank card.
  25. Robby_123's avatar
should i stack 2 years of premium now of is not worth the extra fee as it doesnt seem too much more added on? or should i just get a years worth and hope for another psplus deal later on the year? new ps owner and wanted to sub to the service. (edited)
    fredflintstone11's avatar
If you are new, my advice is get extra and not premium. Most say premium is not worth the extra money unless you are really into classics or streaming games. I’m sort of stuck as I can only downgrade after my sub finishes and usually no offers on then. £65 for premium is still a bargain as there is usually enough in the games catalogue to keep me going without needing to buy more games when they come out. Only bought Hogwarts Legacy recently.
  26. Gohan_dbz's avatar
Is this roughly the cheapest it's been?
In two minds to stack up. Alrwady renewed for one more year
    SnoopZ's avatar
We get this deal every year but there is also a 50% off sale in December for new or expired subs.

Someone yesterday said it would only let them stack until 2026.
  27. Vanderlust's avatar
If your extra monthly sub ends on the 17th does that mean there’s no way you can get extra annually during the sale?

Would have to go for premium?
    SnoopZ's avatar
You can purchase another Extra sub in the sale and it'll increase the length of your current sub.

When you purchase PS PLUS in the sale it'll automatically become the same as your current tier.

You can upgrade a tier at later date but any downgrade will take affect from when your current sub expires. (edited)
  28. TrevorPH's avatar
Interesting, Shopto have two separate £40 vouchers listed and one is £34.85 and the other one is £35.85. So that's a 14% discount on one vs an 11% discount for the more expensive one.
  29. JamPau's avatar
If you only care about playing online then just make a turkish psn account and buy 12 months there. Only cost me £9
    BluesFanUK's avatar
The only caveat with that is some games are Region locked, like Miles Morales. If you enjoy it enough to end up purchasing it in the UK (or it becomes available on PS Plus Essential), your game save won't work with it. Fine for most titles mind. (edited)
  30. MKBERTIE's avatar
    Probably a silly question.

How do you stack these? Thinking of getting the Extra Subscription for 2 years
    IFRIT's avatar
Buy a years worth - it gets applied to your account. You then precede to buy another years worth and it gets applied to your account. Ad finitum (edited)
  31. markyo007's avatar
Hopefully someone can advise on this, so I purchased an £84 gift card last week from Shopto (it cost me £69) and I bought a PS + extra subscription using the £84 gift card. I think you have 14 days to cancel the PS + subscription. My question is can I cancel the PS + subscription and get back my £84 store credit, and then take out the discounted subscription on 2nd June?
    IFRIT's avatar
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to, if you can get them to refund they will refund the credit to your PS wallet which you can then use to buy the discounted sub.
  32. Glasshalfsmashed58's avatar
How does it work if you're adding 12 months to an existing premium sub, but want to only do the basic package when premium expires?
    fredflintstone11's avatar
You can’t AFAIK. To downgrade, you need to essentially cancel premium. When you are then expired, re subscribe to the tier you want.
  33. Supergolo's avatar
are the classics games in Plus Premium worth the extra £12?
    SnoopZ's avatar
Most people if you look at gaming forums don't think Premium is worth it, I've got premium but don't think I've ever played a classic game.

If you want cloud streaming and game trials then you need Premium for that.

What happens if my Essential runs out in October & I add this? Will it upgrade to Extra? Just wanna keep Essential really & extend it a year from October. Can this be done? Thanks! (edited)
    SnoopZ's avatar
If you're on Essential it'll extend your Essential.
  35. EverydayImHustling's avatar
Can you buy this but not activate it till later? Won’t get much time to make use of it till later in the summer so it’ll be a waste for 6-8 weeks if I start it from now anyway.
    tonyawesome69's avatar
    No
  36. Curteh's avatar
Typical my Extra sub expires on 14th after this deal ends. Assuming there’s no way to renew at 25% off for Essential?
    SnoopZ's avatar
You can only buy this if you stay on Extra.
  37. SmashInt's avatar
Thanks OP, expired today so this was PERFECT! Heat 🔥
    SnoopZ's avatar
Grab a few years of the tier you want, but don't grab if you wish to downgrade in the future.
  38. junior.quadros's avatar
I believe the £84 one is the best value with 20% extra
  39. InfoAddict's avatar
Is it still possible to stack many years of Essential/Extra and then upgrade all of it to Extra/Premium with one flat fee? Which works out more economical because the flat fee has a max limit on the 5th year and you can stack as many years as you want and that upgrade fee remains the same.

Stacked PlayStation Plus Essential till April 2027 (edited)
  40. Concert0's avatar
My premium subscription has recently expired. Is it cheaper for me to buy the lowest tier and then upgrade to premium assuming I'm allowed to do that? Or just outright buy premium?
    SnoopZ's avatar
I suspect it'll be only cheaper if you stack several years of essential and then upgrade it all to premium as I believe the upgrade cost maybe capped at £100 but not 100% sure if it still works.
