Not a spectacular price considering prices these days, not bad though.
It's a DRAM-less TLC NAND drive, nothing special.
Same price as the WD SN570 which is a similar drive -
    amazon.co.uk/WD_…-16

I'd still go with the cheaper Kioxia with DRAM over this (especially if using as an OS/apps drive) -
    amazon.co.uk/Kio…-11

If you really need the higher sequential speeds, this DRAM-less Lexar is cheaper than the 980 and the SN570 -

Why is the slower drive better in your opinion? I'm trying to upgrade a laptop to inject a bit extra speed on the cheap and am struggling to know which to go for?

No! It is a gen3 ssd, not fast enough for a PS5.

May be a little obscure, but does anyone know of a motherboard that would suit this and a 5600x?.

Any AM4 board for that CPU with an PCIe3.0 M.2 slot will work fine.

There's not much to look out to check other than:
Is it an AM4 board to match my CPU?
Does it have an PCIe3.0 M.2 slot for the SSD?? (technically you could use the SSD in one that's lower than PCIe3.0 it just wouldn't run at full speed).

Pretty standard for motherboards to have M.2 slots these days so just have a look for a board in your price range. Different boards typically don't make much of a difference unless you're a heavy overclocker. Just get the one in your range that has the features you need. (edited)

    Great price
Unbelievable when you see it's Argos...board manufacturers why limited slots on boards

I recommend reading about numbers of PCIe lanes to CPUs to understand this. It's a techical limitation. Even on CPUs that support more lanes, more slots = higher cost for manufacturing and therefore customers.

Without thread jacking the 980 PRO has also been reduced down to £74.99 on Argos if you are "looking for the model up".

    This however is a steal

Or buy a better performing drive than the 980 Pro for £58'ish -

You can pick up the 2TB Blade for only £95, why bother spending £75 on a 1TB980 Pro? (edited)

How does this compare to the Kioxia Exceria? Looking to use in an external enclosure.

From my own research, the Samsung 980 doesn't have dram, so sequential writing (large files) will slow after a period shorter than the kioxia. However, I bet the random read and write speeds are higher on this than the kioxia (which cites about 2,000 versus this at 3500). I would say its a toss up depending on your use case. If you are asking this question, you are likely in the 95% of people who wouldn't notice any difference in your use case. Just don't rely on either for ps5.

I'm sure some person who knows better will correct me, but hope this helps all the others wandering the same thing even if it gets a better response!!

These 1TBs are going to sink like a stone until everyone realises that they need more mobo slots or a massively expensive bifurcation card which costs 5 times the price

The place that built my PC is offering this...
    1TB INTEL® 670p M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 3500MB/sR | 2500MB/sW)
For just a little more than the £39.99.

    1. Is this deal better?
    2. Will it fit/be compatible?

    TIA

It's a QLC NAND drive, which is lower endurance, but has DRAM and is still good OS/apps drive.
The cheaper Kioxia I mentioned above is TLC NAND with DRAM, so would rate that higher. (edited)

Be careful peeps, just picked up my "supposed' Samsung 980 1TB nvme drive, got home and then noticed the seals had been cut and the box looked a bit beaten up on the outside. Opened the box and inside was a 1TB PM9A1 from 2021. Oh well I thought it's a faster drive so may be it'll be ok but no the drive was write locked & unusable. Took it straight back and of course they're now out of stock so cant replace it and as I paid through vouchers I'm stuck with a £40 Argos voucher that I won't use.

Something tells me they wont sell many at that price.
Probably bumped the price when they noticed they suddenly got more sales and though it was far too cheap.
