Just about to sell my set that I picked up 2 years ago that got me from a new starter to a 13 HCP (with lessons and practice). Great value kit to get you up and running.

    This set is a steal.
Ram, Cobra irons for guts of £200, good clubs but not amazing.
These irons are easily worth £300, an £100 putter and you'd never get the driver/hybrids for £80, easily worth another £200. (edited)

Think decent price for starter, putter best part of £100

Most clubs better than user anyway, as put these in hands of pro/decent player and will still shoot par or around there on local course

Sorry to say this, but no matter your standard of competency or incompetency, choosing a set of golf clubs without hitting them first is equivalent to choosing a nice new £500 tie off a rack while blindfolded. (edited)

I 100% completely agree! However there is a case for beginners buying them. I started playing golf 6 months ago and didn’t want to pay for a fitted set of clubs for the following reasons…1, I don’t know if golf was going to be something I stick to. 2, I didn’t know if I would be good enough to enjoy it, 3, it’s super expensive for a full set of fitted clubs. With this set it was cheap enough to get started.

I am now down to a 14hcp after playing twice a week with these clubs, they have been great. I do not regret buying them and the resale value is about £300. I have not changed a single club in the bag but I’m now struggling to improve any further so I’m thinking of selling these and going for fitting.

To be honest...I'm still as bad with my Callaway clubs as I was with my much cheaper Wilson clubs. So at beginner level I'm not sure the standard of club makes that much difference as long as you don't go really cheap like Hippo or something.

I think a good quality ball has a bigger impact for me as a pro v1 does go noticeably further. (edited)

If you are playing with really old Irons ( like blades) which are difficult to hit even for the single digit golfer.
They would make a great improvement in ball striking and being able to get the ball in the air compared to blades and old clubs.

The golf technology has come on leaps and bounds in the last 5 years.

However, If you are investing in new clubs look for some tuition as well.
This will make the game more enjoyable and you might become a decent golfer.

These or Callaway strata for the beginner golfer? Would ideally want them to last at least a year of 2-3 days a week of golf (and the associated improvement)
Currently learning towards the Strata's at ~£280 for the set as I don't recognise the reason for a club doing more for you at 28+ handicap than the Stratas do.

I bought this Edge set last summer and my wife bought the ladies Strata Ultimate set. I have no regrets about my choice (the putter is especially good), but the Strata set is exceptionally good value. The quality is very high, and you get everything you need to get started.

My wife has upgraded to a PXG 0211 driver, had a Superstroke grip fitted to her putter, and bought a new bag, but she's really happy with the set overall and I doubt she'll change much else anytime soon. She's also won the last two rounds we played

Ordered, thanks OP. Beginner here looking for a full set and these just seem like a no brainer based on reviews. Resell value seems to be around £300 so seems like a steal! (edited)
