I purchased one of these renewed ones a couple of weeks ago. Previously I tried a PSVR which was considerably more money by the time I purchased a ps4, headset, controllers and camera nearer £700. Using this in comparison is like night and day the quest being so easy to set up, great controllers and tracking are great and the display quality is a notch up from my old PSVR though of course the PSVR 2 is now available. The quest of course isn’t tethered either so just switch on and go. Fortunately you no longer need a FB account which is why I held off. Game wise there are loads my favourite being tennis and table tennis so far. Lots more to try. Some still make me nauseous but the beauty is you can return them if used less than two hours and I’ve done that a few times so I know it works.

As stated the renewed units also seem to have a 365 day return policy even if you’re not happy with it over the normal 30 day one ?

Of course there is the new V3 coming out later in the year but that is likely to be £500!

These renewed units are def a good way to try before you buy. Mine came in brand new original boxing and was effectively a brand new unit

Can you watch downloaded 3d films on this like you could watch 3d blu rays on the psvr?

I know this works with steam VR...

Any way to play game pass ultimate games (either pc or series x) with all the vr bells and whistles - head tracking etc?

I've seen you can install game pass on the device, but I'm assuming it functions just as a display?

Can these be linked to a steam deck?
    fishmaster's avatar

Yes but the Steam Deck is underpowered for VR

VR on the Deck is almost playable with ALVR v20.0.0 >

How do these compare to the Original Quest?
I got the Original Quest when it came out. Used it for a week. The baby came early and its been boxed up for 18months.
The rubber has gone an odd white colour now.
Just wondering if to keep the one I have or if worth selling and getting the newer version?
    dudwood_fudwood's avatar

You can't keep a baby in a box for 18 months, dude.

Can anyone recommend a good cable for this? I presume the one that comes with it is way too small for tethered play?
    HHNNNGGG's avatar
    HHNNNGGG
Virtual desktop is better than airlink imo. If you must use a cable, I suggest the quest cable. It's a 5m fibre optic usb c cable, carries the speed and power requirements. I have it but don't use it because I set up my play area next to my router.

May as well wait for prime day. My guess would be £250

Also if you have student prime you get 10% off so it's the same price new. (edited)

Wish I could vote this despicable offer frozen and not just cold. Its just £30 and £50 more respectively brand new from Argos.

It's bloody second hand goods, refurbished at best. I didn't see anywhere in the OP that says that it's even returned or used goods. To me they are trying a confidence trick using more appealing words to sell these at near the current brand new Quest 2 retail prices, rather than being clear they are second hand or refurbished status. It says renewed.

It's not anybody elses fault if you don't know what that means.

Agree, for the difference in price I'd be tempted to buy brand new though.

I bought a quest 2 from someone on shpok for 135 a few days ago covered in dust, wiped it over with anti bac wipes and good as new, im really impressed, the graphics aren't amazing as expected but its so immersive and fun, so far ive only purchased pga golf + and thrill of the fight but both are fantastic (edited)

If you like golf (or even if you don't) you must try Walkabout Mini Golf on the Quest 2.

Just started considering a vr unit, never even tried one or seen many videos of one but feel compelled.
    This or PSVR2?
    Fraser_Holloway's avatar
    Fraser_Holloway
If you've already got a PS5 then the PSVR2, if you don't then a Quest 2 is fine. There are plenty of games available for free on Sidequest if you enable developer mode and the Quest is more 'open' if you want to tinker with things or have a more questionable opinion of copyright.

Personally I'd wait a little until the Quest 3 is released, the price of the Quest 2 is likely to drop sharply as people will be looking to upgrade.

I use my Q2 pretty much every day, I find it much more fun that the Xbox etc, in fact the only games I do play on the PC/Xbox are driving ones with my steering wheel/pedals setup.

If you are worried about your playing space and hitting anyone/anything in your area, there are a few tips, place a mat (something like a bathroom mat will do) in the middle of your play area, this will stop you wandering around too much. Start with some slower paced games (like Walkabout Mini Golf) as you are less likely to be swinging your arms around. There are some great games that can be played while seated too (the Warplane games for example). If you are worried about wandering around and hitting the wall, windows, vases ( ) etc., try some games that don't require you to move (like Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, Synth Riders etc.).
You can also adjust the Guardian detection to be more responsive when you're moving faster too, so it will only show as you're pretty much on top of it when playing Mini Golf, but a good foot or 2 away when playing something more energetic like a shooter.

Hows this to use as a virtual desktop for a PC, can it be used a on the go monitor replacement and show standard PC applications. Also can it do more than one monitor?

It's kind-of possible if you like eye strain and clunky typing controls. Looks great in demo videos but really hard to do in reality.

All In One Sports VR if you liked Wii Sports. Crisis Brigade Reloaded 2 & Zombieland if you like Time Crisis style shooters. There are loads of fun cheap and even free games plus free 30 minute trials. Depends what genre you like.

You can get 25% off some games if you get a link from a friend, and store credit if you activate your Meta account with a referral link.

Trade in value for the Q2 is dropping like a stone now that the Q3 with its MR tech is on the way, it is now £140 cash, whereas before the Q3 reveal it was £190 cash from CEX, and that is the big 256 gig model, worse than that is the £117 for the 128gig model, and dropping..............so caveat emptor at this point. lol

I remember hearing some advice once to never ever under any circumstances buy a 2nd hand VR headset..
    Dribbles_MacTavish's avatar
    Dribbles_MacTavish
what was the reason? Given that this comes with a good warranty, I think you'd be pretty safe buying this one. I think the original advise was buying one from eBay/Facebook Marketplace, where you don't have any comeback should the headset (or more likely, the controllers) have been mistreated.

wait for the PICO 4 to go on offer . it's a better headset overall especially if you are a PCVR user.

I read online pico is only better if you specifically want it for pcvr otherwise the best popular games on quest aren't available for stand alone play

Also one more thing as im curious, someone mentioned 90 days easy returns whilst others have mentioned 30 days returns for any reason, has anyone had experience with renewed returns? Thanks!
    jerrysimon's avatar
    jerrysimon
As I said the small print says 90 days but the main page says 365 days as per below

“What if the product does not look or work as expected?
We want you to be delighted with your purchase. If the product does not look or work as expected, you are eligible for a replacement or refund within 1-year of receipt with the Amazon Renewed guarantee. We can also help you troubleshoot technical problems and assist with returns. From ‘Your Orders’, click on ‘Get Product Support’ or click on chat/phone for Amazon Customer Service.”

When I select return it doesn’t say return within the usual 30 days date but says this

    “Return or Replace Items
    Eligible until 22 June 2024”

So 12 months after I purchased it (edited)
