They got a deal on the "without ads" version?

Buy the ads one and get in touch with Amazon CS. Tell them that it is showing gambling ads to your son. They will disable it for free. I did this a few years ago, might still work.

This tablet is great. Better than the Samsung A8.

Better than the 32/3gb version at least. Certainly the best bang for buck tablet

Is this the same spec 'certified refurb' tablet that was posted a few days ago and selling for a fiver less ? (edited)

Same spec, but this will be brand new and in proper packaging. Refurb is like new but with plain packaging. Admittedly that doesn’t really make much difference, but I am returning my refurb and have ordered this for battery reasons.

Anyone know why all these Fire products are dropping in price the day BEFORE Prime Day??? Very strange marketing.

It's Early Prime Day deals I think - I guess to get people to sign-up in advance of Prime Day. They do this regularly. (edited)

Is this the old version that you can install Google playstore on and wipe the amazon ads bloatware?
    Franklin_Goodwin's avatar
    Franklin_Goodwin
You can install Google Play store on this. It takes around 10 minutes

Now showing as £69.99. This is about half the price it sells website not a bank holiday black Friday or whatever. Totally worth it. I've had this tablet for 2 years I think. I use it for reading ebooks with illustrations, magazines, you tube, basic internet stuff, not productivity. I'm sceptical about all this stuff about installing Google playstore btw. My experience was that it killed battery life and only worked well till the next update. Amazon support fire tablets for about as long as Apple support ipads. I've got loads of history , art and cookery books which would have cost a fortune to buy as hard copies as many were just in hardback. Don't agonize about the ads. They are only on the lockscreen so easily ignored and if you do find them intrusive you can pay £10 AT ANY TIME to get them permanently removed. I don't think this will get much cheaper. I think Prime Day is the best time of the year for Amazon tablets.

    This or the 11 max?
    Franklin_Goodwin's avatar
    Franklin_Goodwin
11 Max. I have this tablet and while it's good for YouTube and Netflix, it can be be slow to open apps at times. It's also slow loading web pages and if you plan to play any games you won't have a good experience. It's great for the price as long as your expectations aren't high

Just seen that Amazon refund the difference if you buy something on prime day and they drop the price further during this time. Info is in the "hottest today" box on this site.

Should we pull the trigger now or is this likely to drop in price further over the next week or so?
    plewis00's avatar
    plewis00
Buy now imo, this is the price drop you were waiting for and more than likely if you wait, you will get delayed shipment or back-order which is what happened to me last year.

That's what I want to know too.

The main difference seems to be an extra 1GB of Ram.

For those wondering whether to return their refurb one, the warranty seems to be the same i.e. 1 year.

Can this be used as the same as a kids fire? And can a rubber holder be bought for it? Just need a quicker one with more storage, many thanks

Toying between this and the 10+

Will be used as a kids tablet, and will add Play Store but can’t be dealing with it dying out and becoming obsolete early so thinking to go for the + model.
