Amazon fire HD alexa 8 16gb tablet. 52.99 If anyone got £5 off emailed voucher then Potentially cost is £47.99

Not in stock at any store and not available for delivery. waste of time. (mad)

OP .. "If anyone got £5 off emailed voucher". What the hell?!. Who got that one?, and/or how can people get the one too, etc?, lol, thanx.

yes ive had a 7 for a couple of years now

By standard do you mean the Fire 7? If that's what you mean, then a lot of the reviews indicate it's worth stretching over to the Fire 8 if you can. Just on specs, the additional few £s get you 2GB RAM, slightly faster cpu, stereo sound courtesy of dual speakers, longer battery life, better res screen. Choice of 16 or 32 GB storage models. If you can, stretch to the 32 it just gives the OS more space, which makes living with it a little easier.

worth a hd over a standard fire tab ?

Amazon Fire HD 10 (7th Generation) Tablet 64GB Without Special Offers for £149.99 at Amazon
Found 14th DecFound 14th Dec
Amazon are currently doing a save up to 35% off deal on their website. For example a 64GB Without Special Offers Tablet went from £189.99 to £149.99 today!

Cheers Sadly this seems to be the 8" But thank you for the heads up I shall keep an eye on aliexpress

AliExpress has the 64gb for £186 in their Spain warehouse (won't be subject to any taxes)

Would you care to link either the Xiaomi or similar at this price. The best I can find for the 64gb Mi Pad 4 is £180 for the gold from gearbest and then I run the risk of tax and duties. This isnt a dig btw I am genuinely looking for a 10" android tablet. I had hoped to get one of the lenovo tab 4 plus but I cant track one down at the £150 price point and 16gb will be tight for space unless I add via sd.

Sorry my mistake

No it wasn't! The black Friday deal was a 32GB model and with adverts on the lock screen and that model is £109 today.

Terrible device. Very slow. Not even worth £30

A product that is the same price elsewhere has now been reduced by the very company who makes them...

These are great if your child likes to drop thier tablet as it takes a good amount to break the screen I have noticed not impossible note just better than some other tablets we had that broke on 1st drop

Wasn't this a fiver less during the recent blackness? Or did I buy an even naffer model?

Always used android but want a cheap tablet for kids. Does anyone know if this have similair apps? Usual kids stuff like cbeebies etc. Also how easy is it to restrict apps that kids access. Cheers

Ram - 1gb ooft

These are great. We've had 4 of these for three years. Still going strong only problem was the charging port went funny on one, although that may have been down to the kids pulling out the chord with their sledge hammer hands (lol) Good deal. Heat

This is a nice little thing and not heartbreaking if the kids drop it. Drop proof covers aren't stunningly expensive either, look like they're about a fiver on ebay.

"What happened to your previous 2017 Fire 8, what did you do to it? You didn't try to start a war with it or somet'in?". Hehehehe, I'm more about peace, than war mongering thanx. :-D "Did they make you send back the old one?". Yep! (did so already, earlier this Week, lol). Based upon some of the earlier one info on the battery life on this thing, then ... Clearly my former 2017 version was far more superior to that of my now current 2018 one. Ahhhhhhhhhhh well (not a great deal I can do about any of that now?), it is what it is I guess?, lol. But yeh, it would kinda be nice if they threw in a freebie of some ilk or another I guess?, lol. :-D

What happened to your previous 2017 Fire 8, what did you do to it? You didn't try to start a war with it or somet'in? Did they make you send back the old one? Lost or gained, I guess after watching 8 or 10 hours of staring at an 8-incher, you probably need a break. Get them to chuck in a power bank to cover the inconvenience.

The kids have hd8s and they are pretty sluggish. God knows how bad the 7s must get. The hd10 would be the minimum spec I'd be looking at for a tablet for anything less than very very light use

I must admit my old Nexus 7 2GB version still runs great compared to the old Fire Tablets which have less than 2GB memory. Wish they still made the Nexus 7! My other half has HD10 now and the extra ram helps. Nice large 10" screen pretty good value for money if you like watching movies / shows while travelling.

The HD 10 performs better. The internals of the HD 8 2017 and 2018 are virtually the same. They only added the show mode, slightly better front camera and allow bigger micro sd cards. Go with the 10 it needs the extra ram.

Is the hd version any better for the extra cost ? Ive had my fire 7" for years now, just wondering if the hd was worth it ?

I used to use my first one for CCTV on my frail Father it is still going now years later with no issues and fantastic battery power still. I think they are near indestructible it has been in the heat dropped on various surfaces and not complained at all. Fabulous for the price with all the capabilities of any tablet.

<3 <3 Just wanted to thank you OP for bring this to my attention as I had fast tracked the smaller Argos one which I paid £49.99 but had a voucher taking it down to £44.99... So I just have rung argos as it arrived in store today and they are going to refund £15.00 so I end up paying £29.99 with my voucher......Winner winner chicken dinner (party)

Can also be modified to run kodi, Showbox and other "free" streaming apps 😁

These are excellent tablets for kids, the easiest set up I've used for making sure my 7 year old can't see things she shouldn't or use apps not suitable for her either

According to +ve Starts at $80 and works! Durable plastic design. Great way to access Amazon content. Hands-free Alexa. I'm PROPER surprised that someone hasn't come out with the mandatory 'LTE comment' on such Phone's/Tablet's, etc?. So I'll start if off instead then (lol), here goes ... Does this LTE Tablet support Band 20?. ;-) Hahahahahahahahaha. :-D Yep!, I said it, lol. :-)

The cheaper ones fall to bits. Thought I'd found a good one made by Poetic better than most unofficial cases, but it took just under a year before the edges starting fraying (ran a quick flame over them to fuse the thread edges to prevent further loosening) and took it abroad once and realised when back in Blighty that the plastic back plate had a crack around one of the gripping edges. In the end I did what Amazon know were all going to do eventually and buy the genuine item with an RRP of £22.49. But can be brought down to £16.87 price using the XMAS25 discount code. Better quality materials with so far no fraying edges. The fabric weave is tighter, it is better made. It also has a stand design that allows you to place it in portrait or landscape orientation when handsfree. You may find the less expensive ones suit your purposes as the lid thirds fold to create a triangular tube rest, which is a little more stable but only intended for landscape (plus no angle adjustment).

Ooh ok, thanks for the heads up

I believe it's not possible to root the later gen HD8 (2017+) but you can install Google Play store etc.

I was going to comment ....root... yadda yadda .... custom rom.... yadda yadda but thought id get slammed as who would pay 50£ and then have to do that. Anyway we got two delivered todsy as our son smashed his last one which was more than adequate for his youtube, netflix and games needs.

Does anyone know if these are likely to reduce before Christmas? Did they reduce before Christmas last year??

does anyone know if these will go down in price again before xmas, or jan sales please?

The kids ones all come without the special offers.

Do the kids editions of these tablets effectively come "without special offers"? They have restrictions on purchasing (I think - I don't have one yet), so I guess the special offers aren't so useful. I don't see an option to have the offers removed unlike the standard versions either. If it is the case that you essentially get the offers removed for free than that makes the kids editions even more of a bargain!

They often discount codes, between 10% to 20%. There should be one coming soon, although maybe not Friday.

I bought this from John Lewis. I bought the 7 last year for my kids, and ran some scripts to put nova launcher , the app store and a few other things on. I can't remember which website the scripts were on?

Do you know if you can turn the normal fire 10 into the kids version? Or is there a way you can subscribe to the kids apps monthly thing on the normal fire 10? I'm not so worried about having the kids interface but I would like the kids to be able to download the games etc as part of the monthly subscription...

Out of the box yeah, but you can supposedly quite easy put the play store on it. I wint because I'm only using it for movies which it seems great for really nice screen for the price

Are you limited to the Amazon App Store?

I have just bought one with the Ads, opened up Amazon live chat told them I don't like the ads can they be removed and they took them off free of charge

Is it possible to install apps without installing Google Play Services? Got a sneaking suspicion that’s why my Fire 7 slowed down to a crawl, the ones on display in John Lewis are much faster. just ordered a fire 8 and don’t want it to suffer the same fate. It works the same. The kids version is identical to the normal version but with a case and warranty etc.

Hiya Barry I think I can help. Just so you are clear, 'Google Play' is pretty much a store app that gathers available content relevant to screened portable devices (other than 'fruit based ones' if you know what I mean). So, simply do a web search for 'Google Play;' in your results, probably the first one, click on the link to open the Google Play web page; on this new page find and click the 'Install' button for Google Play. That's it, it will then appear on your device as a link. It may vary slightly my friend but don't be afraid to press what you think is the right thing to press. You will be asked to confirm any installs so you should be okay to back out if it doesn't seem right. Good luck.

When you say its easy to install Google Play can you be more specific.
