These are showing at £99.99, so the discount only reduces them to £92.

Only taking £8 off at checkout. Help

My kids have had these since Christmas and they love them. I bought them on black Friday for 55 each. The case is tough but the warranty is the clincher. Not something I'd be that keen to use myself, but as a kids tablet it's great.

The Fire HD8, more ram and doesn't get slow after a week

Got one at this price for my 5 year old son, after his ancient ipad broke. For the price - you cant grumble. Its a robust little thing - with the warranty for if it breaks (including water, screen smash etc). Its not the fastest, but you can lock it right down with regards to websites and apps etc. The Unlimited thing is pretty good as well -good for books. Having an SD card slot is useful for films I have downloaded elsewhere. Its not the best tablet in the world, but for the money I would think you wouldn't do much better for those under 8

Hi, looking forward to checking it out! And yep it's the Alexa enabled dock you speak of 👌

No problem! If you've got the dock I'm thinking about, you've got Alexa features too, so you can use it as a 'smart display ' as well.

In the end I went for the M10... Unfortunately the only good deals right now are hovering around the £139.99 mark. I got mine from Curry's for £150 as the extra £10 got me the Dolby Sound Dock, as well as 6 months free Spotify Premium. As a Google Music subscriber (which I intend to cancel for the next 6 months) this'll save me £60 so offsets the total cost of the tablet down to £90. Thanks again for your help!

It is up to you what you want from a tablet. There is a 3gb ram m8 as well, but not sure if it is full hd. You have to read, as there are different versions of M8. I personally look at these for a tablet: full HD (Not bothered with full hd Netflix, but the tablet should be full hd), 3 gb ram, minimum Android 9. Also, if possible, usb c and the ability to load apps on an SD card. To me there are only 4 tablets doing this at a budget of £100-200, all Lenovo: M10, M10 Plus, P10 and Yoga Smart. The cheapest being the M10. If I want it for my son, the E10 will do.

Hi, yes it's not the FHD unfortunately. To be honest I held fire on placing the order as I got busy in between. Probably good that I did if you say it's close to the E10, although I've read/watched decent reviews for it...?

You can use Whatsapp but it is fairly complicated so unless you're willing to put in the time I wouldn't expect to have that feature in any Sim-Free Tablet. I can point you towards sites if you want to know more though!

Most paid books on Kindle cost less than their physical counterparts though. There are some exceptions, but those are the exception rather than the rule.

I missed this deal - any ideas when the next sale is likely to be?

I got the case and put the normal kindle in it, it is quite a tight fit, so not easily removed.

I read that the tablet should be on that firmware out of the box. Not sure how true that it though

Only if it is running firmware lower than Otherwise you need to open up the tablet.

Looks like you can unlock the bootloader on this device Which means you can install Lineage OS 16 The unlocking process does look complex though

Success. Just hope it hasn't opened up any security issues (with having to use older versions of each APK). I only wanted one thing from the Play Store. Pity I couldn't have just DL that one APK on another device and copied it over on SD card and instlled it from there.

Errrmm where as the 8 had been unavailable for some time now due to the new one coming out in June.....and is still saying unavailable....

I bought the tablet, registered it and they refunded me for the year's family edition (got it on the cheap deal for £17 a year), without asking me. It seems it's still working on all tablets though, so that's ok for far! If you've only got a single sub, I would imagine it'll refund you (pro rata) and apply the free year,

I haven't been able to figure this out either, as we already have one too. in theory you only need one subscription, bit never found anyone that can confirm

I just did this too (lol)

That isn't true. I have one myself and, yes you can sideload Google Play which is easy to do and that doesn't slow it down. However, I have found that after a few months it does slow down and I did a factory reset, which brought it back as it was new. However, on Black Friday these were £29.99 at Currys and the 32gb version (which I have) was £39.99. But I wouldn't get another one because Amazon Fire OS - even though based on Android, it is restricted and certain apps such as Barclays Banking App will not work etc.

Thank you, I was wondering how to set up.

Far better performance so for a few extra £s get a 4K stick preferably when it's on offer, unfortunately I believe Black Friday has been moved to September this year.

Hi, over the years I have had a few different versions of the firestick and the 4k one is by the best because it operates seamlessly and fast than the non 4k version

Is there a big difference in spec or features other than the resolution? My TV is only HD and I have limited internet, so 4k no advantage for me, but I'll pay the extra tenner for more performance.

Can't see why not - as far as I know XDA have a no-piracy type policy. They encourage people to unlock the potential of their devices using tools available.

@ScampiLamp Amazon fire for kids are the best tabs for kids 3yrs old in my opinion. My twins have had theirs since that age.. They come with a good protective case and 2yr worry free warranty (might need to check but they did till few months ago atleast). Also come with 2yr fire for kids subscription included. I side loaded app store using some videos from YouTube and once we ran out of the fire for kids we started downloading apps for them which they happily used. Very recently amazon had an offer on fire for kids subscription and I bought it again so now we are back using that. Twins are almost 5 so they enjoy games like teach monster and do lots of early years activities on them too. I would say go for it as you will not regret. We have fire 7 but have heard that 8 is better and yes having a memory card definitely helps :) (y)

I don't know, I never had one, but it makes sense to replace it. Lack of apps was one of the reasons I did not get one and got an Android.

Fire 7 is Rubbish. 1 GB Ram is not enough.

Appears to come with the 2 year worry free guarantee so no additional case is needed. "Kid-proof fun - this tablet comes in robust Kid-Proof case and with a two-year worry-free guarantee, meaning that it can stand up to even the cheekiest of monkeys. If the tablet does break within two years, Amazon will send you a free replacement under your guarantee."

Hi folks, from personal experience I would recommend getting the Fire HD 8 over the 7. The screen is better and it’s much faster and responsive for kids. I would also recommend a good quality case with screen cover, over the Amazon kids chunk of plastic case, because they don’t really offer much protection. Context: We have 3 x Fire HD 8 tablets, bought in late 2017, for KS1 kids to use. All three are still going strong. Before this we had a 7 which was poor in comparison. Hope this helps someone :)

Still available in my area (Swansea). Hope this helps. PS Thanks OP

doubt it as the 32gb version was £38 using the same offer got one myself probably sold a lot, imagine how many probably went on ebay!

I love these they are quite hard-wearing, however we've been there and back with the last 3 we've had, with the batteries failing after a month. We are on the 4th one now and it's been ok at the 2 month mark, fingers crossed. Think we came accross a faulty batch, might be colour specific because it's been the red ones we've had an issue with, when they had no red left in stock they exchanged it for a black one and so far so good. We got it for £34.99.

Hi, what tablet did you get for playing Roblox on?

Thank you!

The problem with #2, as I've found on two different tablets is that when it works it's great, but it can be a game of cat and mouse. Any FireOS update seems to revert the launcher to stock, and I've got a suspicion yesterday's occurrence happened due to something innocuous like it hitting low power mode at 20% charge. The play framework also delivers a performance hit though that's probably to be expected. Agree with #3

Yes True still very good value but £35 discount not 100 it retails at £79

What version of LineageOS did you use? Is it stable? any bugs to know about before I give a go? Thanks

If you're anyway technically inclined, you can hack these, unlock them, root them, and stick a custom Android ROM on there. I bought two last week and had them both running LineageOS within an hour... Well worth £45 each.

Do these support Netflix hd?

Just got the 16GB for our son, hes had a 7 since 2015 and this is a good jump, battery so much better and a noticeable jump in screen real estate, it also has a sensor to adjust the screen brightness which helps battery life loads.

How does this compare to the HD 10 in terms of speed? Is the difference in the speeds too noticeable especially for browsing/ watching movies. Thanks
