I own the 2017 version, I bought this newer version and honestly didn't see a difference!
AI upscale would be good if you watched old stuff or your IPTV is crap.
So in my opinion if you're thinking of upgrading save your money.
If on the other hand you've never had one, I highly recommend

The first review on Google I read said it isn't worth upgrading.. well, if you don't have it already

Can anyone comment on how well this performs compared to Apple TV 4K. I currently own Apple TV but would like to get away from the Apple Eco System.

I have this and the Apple. This totally knocks the crap out of the Apple, IMO and in my use cases. I'm actually pretty surprised at how clunky and underpowered the Apple is. Some of my content on Plex doesn't play or stutters on the Apple, but plays perfectly on the Shield. The YouTube and YouTube Kids apps on the Apple arent great to use. I'm glad I got it from my parents as they don't use it, rather than paying for it. (edited)

Maybe it's because I don't know how to utilise its potential but I bought this upgrade and I can't see any difference from my sons 2017 version

Best purchase ever after ditching the CCWGTV, geforce now ultimate looks like playing locan in 4k HDR, game pass using xbplay no issues at all.. I got one grade B from CEX.. On reddit main complaint is for the non support of AV1 codec (edited)

Damn! I was just about to purchase at £159.

Do we think there's a chance this may go down in price again during the Prime sale?

CEX have grade B (mine was almost new and with all the box and accessories) for 140£

Got the 2015 500gb version. Updated the drive to a 500SSD as mechanical one failed but is a lot faster and works fine as a device. Bought in 2015 and still going strong. Bought a new nvidia tv remote also. (edited)

Thinking of upgrading amps to play 4k what about this unit

INVIDIA Shield TV Pro is there any disadvantages or any limitations of the device to play
Play 4k, 1080p. 1080i. 480i, 576p. All HDR formats and HD audio passthrough

I am sure I read the shield can not auto switch frame rate to the source eg 24p from 60

    What about av1 codec support

Just trying to think what others problems smaller arm boxes seem to come
With. I do like nice skin that has all the eye candy as well though in Kodi as I have a local server with all my rips (edited)

Auto frame rate was in beta and I think its made it to alpha not 100% though.

As a streaming device there is nothing better HDR and Dolby Vision are fully supported

I use mine as a plex server too and gets tons of use. Highly Recommended

Would anyone say if this is an upgrade from fire cube 3?
    bensbb's avatar
Unless you are a Plex user who wants audio passthrough I would say no. It's s getting on a bit in age now (released 2019). Personally I don't like the fire TV as it's clearly just an Amazon advertising device. That being said I'm sure you can fix that by modding the software if you have the time to research it all. If you don't, I much prefer apple tv or Roku devices as they are much cleaner UI wise with just a list of apps, and have a wider selection of apps than the shield. (edited)

If you need Plex 4k ATMOS support then this is for you, if you don't then look elsewhere. Mine has been pretty flawless for the last 3 years. (edited)

Does the BT sports app work on this natively...
    fishmaster's avatar
Yes. I have one and I have the BT Sport app, you download it from the Google Play Store on the device >

Hi Guys, would this be better than a fire TV cube? Thank you

Would this 4K hardware/software transcode? From a NAS server that doesn't have the capability to do so?

Does this enable you to be able to play games from steam for example? And if so does it work well? Thanks
    Unrecogniseduser's avatar
Not to my knowledge, you would need a steam link for that.

    If I’m wrong, that’s a game changer…

2 questions, is this a marked improvement over the google tv Chromecast and also how heavy is it? Could I get away with pinning behind my TV that's mounted?
    Toon_army's avatar
Do you mean the basic Chromecast like the thing you plug into the HDMi and cast? This does a hell of a lot more than the Chromecast and has Chromecast actually built in.
I've seen mounts you can buy to put them on the back of TVs, probably some strong velcro straps would do the trick
  15. Mcartwright1989's avatar
It's not heavy and you could get away with pinning it behind a tv as its pretty slim too.

I have both Shield Pro and Chromecast with google tv 4k and the shield pro is miles better but it depends on your use case. As others have mentioned it depends on what/how your watching.

If your the type of person that watches bluray rips from a plex server then this is for you.

If your just using the standard apps e.g youtube netflix etc then the chromecast is more than sufficient.
