This is a great car, I've had it for 7 months now. I pretty much use on Motorways only and I get 250 miles out of it, around 30 miles less in the winter. Around town only, it reports around 300 but I've never been able to test this. It drives really well, the entertainment system is good, it looks quite good in my opinion, decent sized boot. Have had no issues so far. I generally get around 4.0 per kw in the summer on the motorway, around 5.0 per kw around town and around 3.0 per kw in the winter.

I have only ever charged at home and a 'full tank' costs around £5.50 on Octopus's EV tarrif.

My 24kw Leaf does 75/85 miles on a full charge and I charge at home from excess PV or cheap off peak leccy. I have averaged 1 pence per mile over the last 12 months.

not great to see that 273 miles is what's thought of as long-range with some EV's  and that will be the best you'll probably get....good luck in colder months

Unless you're doing 200+ miles a day it shouldn't be a problem. The majority of people charge overnight at home, the same way that you'd charge a mobile phone.

As much as I would like an EV its just not feasible.
Because of Price, Range and charging infrastructure .
I live on the 3rd floor, Ive been asking the housing association what they are going to do about chargers for 4 years now.
Still nothing from them. No plans in place. Basically they have no idea what to do.

I make 10-12, 500 mile round trips a year to visit my Dad.
A 500 mile trip in one day is long enough, 10 minutes to refuel with diesel or add 2 hours at best for a fast charger or two. Not able to charge at my Dads and No fast chargers within 15 mles of his house.
A 3Kw charger would not get the job done.
I aim to buy a new car between 2026-2029, Unless things change in a big way ie ev charging infrastructure, range and price.
It will be a Corolla Touring Sports Hybrid. 50 - 60 mpg and 10K - 20K less than an EV with the same range.
Are there any 500/600 mile range EV'S.
I think keeping my 2016 Diesel is not the best for emmisions and the planet.
But how many harmful emmisions are created making a new car.
    mikemikeuk's avatar
The emissions cost of an ev are overcome by the reduction in fossil fuel burnt within about 15-30k milage, with the upper end usually being when the grid still has a bunch more fossil fuel / coal burning for generation (lower in UK).

If IM driving 400-500 miles in one go I might stop for a pee break, but certainly not for 45 minutes to an hour...that's just me though

    1. How many drive 400-500 miles and might/don't stop for a pee break

    2. If you are in this handful of drivers who might/don't stop, remove yourself from the road for being a danger to yourself and everyone else unfortunate to be near you (edited)

My friend has a 70 plate ZS EV, He and the family love it.
He drops it at Sainsburys at 06.00 am, Then walks to the station and goes to work.
His wife walks the kids to school, then walks 20 minutes to the car and goes to work.
The car gets 3 hours of free charging three times a week. They also shop there all the time.
He has only spent about £100 in charging costs in 10 thousand miles.
Is the right and fair to take advantage like that, well that’s not for me to judge.
If I had an EV would I get the free charging , let me think.
Devil on my right shoulder, He say yessssss.
Angel on left shoulder he say noooo.
My wallet screams yes yes yes.

    9hrs at 7kw = 63kwh.

    63kwh @ 7.5p on Octopus Intelligent = £4.72.

If it is convenient for you then yes but it's not really the end of the world if you cant/don't.

Spent 18 months waiting for this car, but now it’s here I love it (apart from the god awful infotainment system - CarPlay is essential).

For any round journey of 200 miles or less, a long range car like this is perfect.

And for the occasional longer journey, a stop at a public charger is fine (but absolutely nowhere near as convenient as filling up with petrol).

If you’re regularly doing 300+ miles, this car is not for you.

Some people are happy with cheaper cars. Nothong wrong with that

Things are improving with regard to distance on EV's but my worry is how this will effect current EV prices.

one video i saw said batteries are getting smaller and cheaper but what the car makers are doing is adding more batteries so the range is better but the price of the car stays the same.
  9. vladdy's avatar
The biggest problem with MG is battery efficiency in the long run. They are very poorly rated, and in the end, it might cost you more than a slightly more expensive brand.

Which? made a list of electric cars worth considering which.co.uk/rev…kwX

If you're subscribed to their magazine, they published a ranking based on battery efficiency. Have a look over it
    BentoBox's avatar
It does seem that many current EVs struggle to achieve levels of efficiency to that the original 24kwh leaf was achieving.
Ours averages 3.9m/kwh and that's on a 10 mile round trip commute which is 80% at 70mph.
On mixed urban and open roads we can get up to 5m/kwh.
I believe Tesla and Hyundai/Kia are the efficiency kings.

Took me 10 hours of what should of been a 4-5 journey due to charging times waiting for points to be free. Next time I’ll have to hire a petrol car
    Social_Solutions's avatar
Eeeesh. Sorry to hear that. I think that will need to be the way forward until tech and chargers keep up. Should be a dispensation for hire car companies to keep Diesel for a few years longer where people can do 95% of their travel by EV and basically use a pool car for the big stuff....
  12. Gazpacho321's avatar
Not sure i would buy an EV unless i could get a new one for silly money. For some obscure reason EVs seem to be hemorrhaging money when they leave the forecourt compared to ICE cars.
    MicroManaged's avatar
They don't though unless you believe the msm or own a Leaf.
  13. thermomonkey's avatar
This seems like a very good price for the battery size if, as above, it can do approx 4 miles per KW. (edited)
  14. Joshfount's avatar
Good price for a decent well reviewed EV ♨️
  15. siliconbits's avatar
Worth keeping an eye on second hand EV prices....
    Gazpacho321's avatar
Yes, i was offered a 5 month old Mokka EV with 300 miles on the clock for £22k - £14k less than the price when new. Dealers are desperate to offload any used EVs.

I have one, I can't tell you how this kind of range is invaluable! I had a Leaf before and you had to start planning to stop from 50 miles, whereas with this if a charger is broken or busy you just carry on. Savage EV depreciation though lease or pcp only!

Great boot and comfy, fabric seats are ace. Infotainment not that great. Came with rubbish Chinese tyres, ride can be dire at times due to the weight.
    Besford's avatar
"Came with rubbish Chinese tyres". Interesting: Chinese tyres do very badly in comparison tests and I've been wondering if this carries over to Chinese vehicles as I'd expect. Quite scary really when you see tests from 70mph and the car on Chinese tyres is still doing 20mph when the one on European tyres has stopped. That's a big Motorway accident there!

I saw a video of one of these and with 70mph motorway driving it did 75% of the quoted figure. Real-world figures will vary so much perhaps in certain circumstances it may only do half ie if you are using the heater or aircon, age of battery etc
I believe this is the EV to get if you are looking for a cheap good one.
