VPN deal. Promo - summer23 makes it £1.45 per month. At the end of checkout it will add on VAT. Not sure if you can get this down further in cost but topcashback you can get 42 percent cashback but sometimes this does not always work. Overall cost is £41.76

Oh no. But sometimes you learn. If you have an existing VPN and set it to jersey you can pay £34.80 total. New users can use topcashback but similar to Quidco (same company) they do not always track and pay out.

For those that currently reside in Colorado, which can be selected from the drop down box, you pay no tax of any description

I had a SS subscription that expired earlier this year, after +2 years of use it had seriously degenerated in quality. Speeds were slower, despite having a broadband upgrade at home, customer service was appalling (at first this was excellent), it was no longer based outside of the 'X'-eyes jurisdiction, there were constant updates to correct new bugs which at the same time re-introduced old bugs, they clearly weren't testing adequately before releasing them.

I asked for a refund with just over 6 months of my deal left, they never responded on that, as I'd not been able to use it reliably for more than a few days a week for several months - too many bugs. It updated a few times without any warning, which involved a restart of the app, despite me setting it so as it should not do that, while I was doing something online that required security. They refused to accept that this was possible.

VPNs are not all about speed, I want to trust them as much as possible. I do not trust these scammers at all. They sold me a product that they changed significantly, repeatedly. I did not want a Dutch-based VPN, no offense to Dutch people, that move meant that they were subject to much more big brother/sister type scrutiny than they had been when I paid for the service.

I firmly believe in paying for a VPN, but not these people. I have Proton, Windscribe, Adguard and Mullvad VPN accounts, I trust them. I've used many other VPNs over the years so I know a bit about them from the UX angle.

I cancelled, and went back to Mullvad.

Ashburn (US) is a good server as it seems rarely used, and is great if you want to use Tubi, and the US versions of Pluto, Paramount, Discovery, and Peacock. But remember to change back to a UK server if you want to post on HUKD as they will refuse to let it through with authorisation. Yet other US servers have no issue.

Excellent VPN. Worth noting this also has an 'override GPS function' which I haven't tried yet. It's buried in settings and you also have to open developer tools in your android

Works well - I’ve used it for buying lottery tickets from abroad, and for using the Three app to call from abroad before roaming!

42% cash back on TopCashback. I got the 90% cash back a few months back and it just paid out now. So for new customers get it via TCB (edited)
    neversay's avatar
    You can say that again.

Can this be added and stacked to existing subscription if paying in full?

Yes. I have just done it today.

I want to stack this. I'm paying with PayPal, at which point can I enter the code? Still no where to input it right upto it taking me to PayPal... Is the code applied after that? Don't want to pay then not have the opportunity to apply code!
    Cheers.
    jujuzeez's avatar
at the bottom right. below the actual price, click on 'got a code?', it will open up for u to insert the code. (edited)

Had mixed feelings using it on PC 12 months ago. Even if you close the app it was still working in background you could close all services via powershell but was headache each time.

There was a command line on GitHub how to completely close Surfshark. Unless it changed in last 12 months.
    hotukuser2015's avatar
No, you're correct. It still ran in the background for me and was tricky to completely uninstall.

I signed up to Surfshark a couple of weeks ago impresssed so far speed is great much better than a lifetime keepsafe vpn unlimited I have and Netflix US works without issues and the connection to vpn hotspot is fast as well tooks ages to connect on keepsafe only annoying issue is google search asks for Captcha but I think that happens for all vpn and there is a workaround (edited)
    SJ_16's avatar
A good workaround would be using DuckDuckGo
  11. Ciarlo2006's avatar
No port forwarding as far as I can tell.

Anyone know if this works with BBC iPlayer? To allow viewing from overseas.
    Masty's avatar
It was unreliable for me. It worked sometimes but it wouldn't last long before it was blocked. Same for Sky Go app etc. I switched to NordVPN & that was flawless for using overseas. I'd only trust Nord & Express for overseas use.

Hi I’m new to this VPN thing. Can someone please explain why you use VPN and how it saves you money? Thanks
    jaxdia1's avatar
Big topic really. VPNs are mainly for privacy, but as a bonus, you can take advantage of pricing differences in other countries for services you use.

Take YouTube Premium for example. Like £15 a month here. Signing up from an Argentinian location, we currently pay about 10% of that for it.
  14. AdzLS's avatar
Put your country as USA and it takes the VAT off that’s what I did and it worked makes you pay in dollars but worked fine
  15. G_W10's avatar
I use surfshark, I really enjoy the service.
I use the mock location and no borders section ticked so I can get prices in other countries

It's a great feature, do other vpns' offer this that you know of?

    Does surfshark starter do turkey?
  18. tonyawesome69's avatar
Quite surprised at how hot this deal is getting using promo code.

I would suggest going through Quidco/TCB without using a promo code (no approved promo codes are available) to get cashback and reduce the cost. Also cashback is only available for new customers, sign up to Surfshark with a new email address will meet this requirement. I would suggest waiting until current subscription has ended rather than stacking. (edited)
    HUKDUser10's avatar
I am surprised at the heat too. Not so much from a cost POV, its the privacy angle that surprises me as I explained in another post here. Even if you're not doing really dodgy stuff online its quite easy for paid-for services to get hold of your real personal details if you use an 'X'-eyes based VPN and they suspect that you're tricking them out of a few $s, £s or €s.
  19. Fugazy's avatar
Is this better than Express VPN? i was thinking of going with them..
    Masty's avatar
I've had both Surfshark & NordVPN (the latter being equal in quality to Express). NordVPN was far better when it came to using iplayer & Sky Sports etc overseas. Surfshark worked sometimes but the reality is that the limited number of servers get blocked very quickly. If you're just using it to protect your data then I'm sure Surfshark is sufficient. Though I'm sure NordVPN was similar in price after cashback...

Does Surfshark have virtual servers for India?

Yes, only virtual servers for India.

I'm in sub until 2024, how do I find out which teir of service I'm on? I'm pretty sure when I originally signed up they only had the one offering.

I wouldn't like to stack and then find out I've effectively downgraded.

    Heated OP, great VPN!

An overseas in Africa question. Would Surfshark allow me to see BBC iPlayer and ITVX on holiday in Tunisia and Egypt?
If not, which VPNs would do this and preferably without contract as would only need it twice a year for 2 weeks at a time.
    jujuzeez's avatar
yes, u can use it in africa, as long as u set uk as default location. there is no free unlimited vpn without a contract. award vpn is free but lasts 6hrs at a time.

Whats Surfshark like when compared to IPVanish? Anyone know?
    jujuzeez's avatar
better than ipvanish. they have been bought over by nordvpn so u will expect ss to have more nv replica features going forward

go into live chat on their website. the chatbot will respond to your 'cancel auto-renewal' query. it will send u a link to follow. respond to all it commands and it leads u to where u finally deactivate auto-renewal within your account settings

Great! I was going to ticket them for that. Guessing it also applies to credit card payments? Will check it out later
  29. juniorelvis's avatar
Reposting an earlier comment of mine: for the adventurous, you can set up your own VPN, for free (up to about 160GB monthly usage). It's quite technical, you also need to add your credit card details, but your card won't be used if you stay in limits (just use a virtual card with a small amount on it anyway). Full details: github.com/pat…xit PS: not a huge choice of countries atm, so if you have a specific need for Turkey for example, this might not be for you. Yes I'm running this no problems (3 countries). Another nifty thing is to get tailscale installed on a computer in your home (or even a Raspberry Pi, now back in stock), and use *that* as your VPN (exit node) when you're sat at work, or abroad or whatever (with tailscale running on your phone) - it's like using your home internet connection (+mobile data if not on wifi). These tailscale guys are going places honestly (3 ex-Google employees).
    HUKDUser10's avatar
Do you know if there are any alternatives to supplying them with your credit card details? As using a credit card is not a very anonymous method! I'm guessing 'no'. Its not because I'm selling on the darknet or anything like that, I simply prefer to give as few details away as possible and would normally pay in crypto where possible for a VPN. (edited)

Stay away from surfshark and nordvpn
    BodisBest's avatar
    Why?
  32. DangarrDactur's avatar
I've been using Mullvad for a few years now, but was tempted by the cashback offer for Surfshark a few weeks ago.

I experienced horrific P2P speeds, and struggled with speeds in general on both Linux, and Windows.

ExpressVPN has worked well for me in the past too.
  33. FleetFanatic's avatar
been using the free proton one.
Might be one device but different devices to different email addresses.

First time using vpn. Are you then supposed to keep it switched on at all times and forget about it?

I am sure these are rookie questions but would appreciate any info.

Would it affect some apps like uber etc? Right now i see no difference.

Would you usually unsubscribe from netflix and YT premium and resub under turket vpn etc?
    BodisBest's avatar
Yes, keep it on all the time, set it to a UK server or you'll end up with foreign results and switch it to Turkey, Argentina when you want a Netflix, Xbox etc cheap purchase.
