Looking for alternatives for velux if there's any out there?. Or would these blinds fit non velux windows too? (edited)

Is block out the same as black out?
    clarkes1990's avatar
Yes and no, it's a blackout fabric but not a blackout system. So you will have a bit of light leakage through the plastic corner caps and side channels. It'll do a good job at night but during the day it'll not stop all light coming in

I bought four of these a few years ago at around £15 from amazon warehouse. Been up ages and absolutely fine still. Once you have fitted one it's a doddle & they can be done in around 5 minutes. (edited)

I'm thinking about painting them before I install. Pretty confident I can get a good finish on the aluminium but just not sure about the plastic corner bits

Just fitted one yesterday. Fiddly to fit but once fitted, does the trick. So far so good...

How do you know what size you need?

Ah interesting, I've just been using a blackout sheet I cut and used some Velcro but this would be much better

Could anyone recommend sth similar for a normal two-wings window?

Not exactly sure what you mean by two wings but look at 'perfect fit blinds'. The fit within the reveal of each PVC window pane

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to get roof blinds for flat skylights?

Yes, that's the cleaning directions they advise

Wouldnt it be better for keeping heat out if they were suctioned on the outside? I want some exterior ones but can't find what I want.

We use the internal blackout blinds similar to these for the inside, but then also have the external manual velux awning blinds which do a pretty good job of keeping the worst of the heat out: velux.co.uk/pro…nds

I can't remember where we ordered them from but it was a 3rd party seller (not direct from velux). They're a doddle to fit as you do it all from inside the house.

I bought blinds from this company blocblinds.co.uk/win…nav tailor made and pricey but they block out 99.9% of light and I often wake up in my bedroom not knowing if its day time yet or not when its daylight outside! I used to find it difficult to get to sleep in the summer and stay a sleep until I got these blinds. Downside are cost, they are expensive. If the walls around your window are less than perfect (mine were despite being a new house too) then you have to be fairly good at diy to make the system work. For example my walls around the windows were deeper in the middle narrower at the top and so after fitting I used polyfiller to remove the light bleed though the outside of the rail. Not a problem if you have perfectly rectangular windows and your measurements are spot on. Second issue is you can't have your windows open if they are closed even partially as the change in air pressure can and does pull the blind out of its runner and can cause damage. I know what to look for now if this happens and how to quickly fix. Despite these issues I think bloc out blinds are marvellous. (edited)
