A great City for music and catering for most tastes...mind the exchange rate makes the USA quite expensive.

Prices to Austin are always cheap. You can even try looking for the direct BA flight from Heathrow to Austin.
Been to Austin/Houston/Dallas last month (July). Too hot to hang out. Make sure you don't go in summer.
Also with the low exchange rate, I would not prefer a holiday anywhere in US. Everything is very expensive there except for Apple products.
