A gps map tells you where you are.

An ordnance survey map tells you where you are & everything around you & where you look & how high the land is all around, landmarks etc etc etc. So you can work out everything you want without GPS (or with if you choose)

Basically you can walk from John O Groats to Lands End with no aids at all (best to use a compass to). Excellent for hiking where google maps would be useless. (edited)

Just a reminder, Bing maps (Desktop) has OS maps available.

OS has further reduced the price to £14.50 for the next "24 hours". Note that the moderators here will expire the deal when it returns to its previously discounted price.

It would be nice if they took a more enlightened view and made national maps freely available, like Switzerland swisstopo.admin.ch/en/…tml. It certainly would encourage tourism.

Their app is really good too; the best walk planning app I've used. Auto-routes you down footpaths no bother.

Took the £14.50 price and it automatically added it to the end of my current subscription.

Oh cool! That is so much easier. I'm tempted to buy this myself - I need to raid the piggy bank first though... 🤭.
    Thanks for sharing . (edited)

Like ABBA once penned, I wish OS'd make their minds up.

Shame the price has gone up, used to be £23.99 and you could get it for £13.99 with a discount only last year.

Never used a mobile with Os, I still use to this day a garmin62st with an sd card with Os installed,, it's been through the mill, and still works in water as well as out,, often wondered what it would be like with a phone,,i just would feel a bit daft getting a phone out and I would never rely on a phone for some reason.. I'm just a dinosaur I guess, everyone to there own, but it did make me look. (edited)

You have to go with what works for you right? No point buying for the sake of buying.
And absolutely, each to their own. 👌🏼

Outdooractive is worth a look too. Turn by turn instructions if needed.

Just cancelled my subscription (had 6m left on it) and renewed with this offer and now have 18m of OS maps, cheers

I'm in that awkward space where I've got a lot of the paper maps, many of them with the digital version too, so although I want this subscription for the odd occasion we go off map or are away, it's a struggle to justify as most of the walks we do are in our area and we already have the map... oh to have money to burn and not care about these things

I feel your pain - truly I do.
But good news! They've just discounted to £14.50 - I think that's the lowest it will go. If you can afford it and need it - then I recommend you buy it.

Thanks, OS sent me an email to say they're increasing my subscription price, but my 'special' price is £28.99, the cheek!
    mark_3's avatar
Same to me! Just canceled my auto-renew and topped up with this price!

I have a current subscription which runs out on 30.11.23. If a buy this will it just commence when my current subscription expires?
    rickmarine's avatar
    No it says:

OS Maps Premium annual subscription will start from purchase and is a recurring payment every 12 months which can be cancelled at any time

little confusing, just to confirm my subscription ran out 29 Dec 23, just done this £20.29 offer and confirm my subscription now ends 29 Dec 24, an additional 12 months from when my current subscription ends (edited)
  16. Scrooge_McDuck's avatar
Not enough of a discount to warrant risking forgetting about the auto-renewal next year and being charged full price.

Setup consistent reminders. That's what I do. It'll remind me a couple times a day a few days before everyday. It didn't stop DuoLingo charging me anyway after their free trial but I emailed them and demanded they refund me which they did.

    Anyone use this?
Any good for identifying walks in a local forest?
    mark_3's avatar
I use it religiously for hiking. It will show you paths. You can also plan your own on it. Also has community added walks, but not in the volume AllTrails would have. If you're needing inspiration, AllTrails may be a better choice

Wonder if you can double stack so buy 1 then cancel then buy another?

It's worth a try, but if in doubt, give their customer services a call first to see if they'll refund it - if your cunning plan doesn't work. . (edited)
