    Any extra prep work needed for vinyl? Is it similar to installing laminate?

    Yes. It needs a flat base to go on to, so fine if it's going on to something like concrete, but if it's being fitted over floorboards, then you'd need to put plywood down (5.5mm usually does it).

    I’ve never fitted vinyl done a few rooms with laminate, might need to put ply on floorboards.This has a foam layer but it’s only 1mm,says on box you can fit over existing floor coverings(not carpet)
    Floor needs to be flat or you may find the joins open up.
