I've been looking around the Aldi site, to see what's coming up and there are these at £29.99 each in store from Sunday 14th Jan. For the money it looks good for a 2000W model vs other places at the moment. Could be worth keeping an eye out for given how chilly it is at the moment.

Warranty is 3 years.

The Kirkton House Oil Filled Radiator is the perfect compact heater for those cold winter months. It features an adjustable thermostat control with 3 heat settings and overheat protection. The power cord storage allows you to easily store the radiator in the smallest of homes and the built in carry handle allows for easy transportation wherever you may need it.

Features
  • Adjustable thermostat
  • Indicator lights
  • Overheat protection
  • Built in safety tip switch
  • Easy moving wheels
  • Built in carry handle
  • Cord storage
  • Choose from black or white

I have one of these at home and the wife has it on constantly even tho the central heatings on
Does any one know how much it costs per hour for these to be on?

2kwh @ approx £0.30 per kWh costs approx £0.60 per hour to run.   Tariffs vary from supplier to supplier and prepayment meters cost more so can’t be to exact with my figures but will be in this ballpark.  Hope this helps.

Definitely worth investigating the running costs if possible. Cheaper might not always be cheaper longer term

Yeah. Electricity is around 4x more expensive than gas and a gas boiler is about 80% efficient, while electric heaters are 100% efficient. So in effect electricity costs about 3.2 times more to run than gas for the same heat output.

If you can turn off radiators, it's far far cheaper to use gas central heating than electric heaters, but you may of course not have gas (very rural), be forced to use electricity (apartments) or be heating a garden office. I use these oil heaters in my shed, but never in the house unless the gas is ever cut off. (edited)

I popped in to my local, there’s none of the offers for today out. Spoke to a chap in store and he said with the issues going on with cargo, the shipment is delayed

Got the last one this morning from Wolverhampton.
Dudley had none delivered yet, he said may follow in a few days (edited)

Great find - just bought one twice the price with pretty much the same spec; mine has a built in timer, with hourly increments.

This would have been better as the power switches are physical (mine are screen touch) - left in the on position you can hook this up to a smart plug and have a precise timer, and turn the blooming thing off if you have forgotten on your way to work.

I’d rather pay the extra and get a portable gas fire warms up so much faster and is far cheaper in the long run to use, it costs us £9.40-£10.50 every 8-9 days to refill the gas bottle (15KG) and it’s in use for 5-10 hours a day the investment is a lot in the beginning but it’s well worth it for the more effective heating plus not being tethered to a wall has it’s big advantages

The problem with portable gas fires is the amount of moisture they release into your home as they burn gas. Check out the amount of condensation which unless dealt with and removed (e.g. by running an expensive dehumidifier) will start to cause issues with damp and mould.

Trust me, we used to use one!

"...Using a paraffin or bottled gas heater (for five hours)
    Moisture produced: three pints
Possible solutions: Avoid using portable gas and paraffin heaters. They give off moisture, so open a window if you have to use one. Paraffin heaters, portable bottled gas heaters and fixed flue-less gas heaters all produce heat, but they also cause water vapour. Burning one gallon of gas or paraffin produces one gallon of water. Paraffin and portable bottled gas heaters can also be dangerous and expensive to run. They can cost as much as, or even more than, heating using peak rate electricity.."

Mine stopped working after a year but lost the receipt so can’t claim warranty annoyingly. Shame cause it was good when it worked!

Checked 4 stores in Birmingham and only one had a label out for them. All out of stock.
    polar111's avatar
I checked three in South Birmingham and, like you, only saw one label and none had stock Two had them delivered but the third one I don't know about as the kid I asked was clueless about pretty much everything.

The second store said they had some in but had all gone.

The final store the guy said he'd had 18 arrive and they all sold yesterday. This morning he'd rung all stores in driving distance and none had any. He said that last year they were selling them but they were not fast movers and weeks later he still had some. Consequently, he reckoned Aldi had ordered fewer and that no more would be delivered. A when they're gone, they're gone thing.

So, if you bagged one you've done well. If you haven't got one already, it seems you're not going to unless they suddenly get their hands on more to ship to stores.

Is there a way to check stock none at nearby stores in east London
    polar111's avatar
Ring the store in the hope that someone answers it and if they do they are in possession of some facts.

Always wondered how efficient they are in comparison to a 10 years old central heating system

I got one from Luton Gypsy Lane, there were quite a few left.
  17. abuhaneefahali's avatar
I would say no , as the oil radiator stops warming the oil up when it reaches the desired temperature and the fan heater is constantly using energy. If they were both on full blast all the time then they would be using the same energy.

Few left in Boston. Both colours
