    says £39 a month where i am

You must be in an Openreach area. The cheaper prices are for CityFibre areas only.

what is the difference between this and pro2 ?
    KodaBear's avatar
Pro 2 comes with a slightly less crap router and a free WiFi range extender device. The router also comes with a 4G Backup modem so if your internet goes down for whatever reason you'll be able to use mobile broadband for free to keep you online until it's fixed.

Sadly £39 as OR area. Maybe add "CityFibre areas only" to the title?

I have just got Vodafone 900, price matched against YouFibre. How doable is it to change router...and to what?
    KodaBear's avatar
Very easy. Just ask Vodafone on live chat or call up and ask them for your PPPoE Username and password. This is basically all you need for your own router.

If you're not too technically minded and want something that will be easy to set up, give good performance and not cost too much, look at TP-Link's products. Get something with WiFi 6 or 6e support built in.

What can be the length of the optic cable between the box installed by CityFibre on the outside wall of the house to the router? Asking as Vodafone live chat said that they provide a 2 meters long cable as standard and it can't be longer. Need at least 3.5m and thought it's not a problem but got confused by the live chat. Anyone has longer connection cable than 2 meters? (edited)

When I got mine installed last year. They measured where i wanted it to be and were going to provide the exact 10m cable. I didn't want them to clip it on the skirting board, just leave it unclipped as I asked for a longer cable so I could route it myself. They gave me 15m optical cable as well and left 10m installed. I had to sign that I didn't want them to clip the cable and are happy with the installation. They took photos of how it is installed and the job done. When they left, I used 15m cable and routed it through the walls.

how is Vodafone? I was with zen for like 4 years and had no problem with their 300mpbs, but seems the infrastructure of their 900mb  has issues, nothing but disconnects every few days, others have had the same issue. switching to Vodafone next week.

would it be better to stick with the fritzbox too? heard bad things about Vodafone's router (edited)

I've had Vodafone 900 (CF) for a year now, using my own router mind you, but its been rock solid.

I have V fibre 900 pro… In my experience 1. The router is rubbish and for all over wifi you may need three boosters for average connections 2. They load balance so speeds vary and theyre inly interested in getting you the minimum not the middle or maximum you pay for 3. If you play console or pc games expect lag and high pings as your signal will be all over the country and that includes beyond the uk shores…and 4. Cashback may be difficult ti get as the Vodafone site very iften refused to connect and forces you to call them and then they refuse cashback.
I was with Virgin Media for years until City Fibre turned up with FTTP and I jumped at it… Ill be moving from Vodafone next year as I game lots and despite being told by them I would have a low latency, my latency us far worse now than it was with VM in FTTC… just my experience

You were on City Fibre right? Were you getting the minimum 455 Mbps at all times as I've read some say they'd drop to 20 Mbps during peak hours.

My Vodafone 900 experience - The supplied router will only deliver at best ~500Mbps over Wi-Fi. You'll need an aftermarket device to go any faster.
    KodaBear's avatar
Agreed. The one that Vodafone supplies is absolute trash imo. Even those on much slower speed packages will likely find that it's range and wireless performance is rather poor and would still benefit from using a different router.

Vodafone make it quite easy to get your PPPoE Authentication details, so it's not very difficult to use your own router or mesh system with their broadband.

Absolutely shocking service, worst provider I have EVER used.
    y_knot_me's avatar
They are really bad. I had big problems with them, the customer service is the worst I have ever experienced.

Very good deal if it all works out with cashback.
£1 month more than what I pay for 1gb with Grain and I thought I would never get anywhere near that anywhere else.

Me too, says £39 a month

    Fibre 1

    38-50Mb

Not fibre then is it lmao.
    KodaBear's avatar
They use both Openreach and CityFibre infrastructure and will always offer the fastest they can at your address. If that's all they are able to offer you, it sounds like there's no FTTP from either of the two companies I mentioned above. You'll be served by Openreach's FTTC instead (Fibre to the cabinet, then through the copper phoneline into your home)

I'd be coming from Virgin so will need to have my BT line reconnected. I have the cable to the house but will need it connected again. What's the going rate for this nowadays?
    KodaBear's avatar
You can't get this deal if you're in an Openreach area anyways. It's CityFibre only.

But at the higher Openreach prices, the cost of installing the line is generally included in the price so they'll send an engineer out to get you up and running again.

Sadly no Full Fibre 900 available in my neck of the woods.

Is Pro Fibre II worth the extra £13 a month over Fibre II?
    KodaBear's avatar
That's over £300 extra over the 2 year contract.

The only difference with pro is that they give you a slightly better router, and 4G Backup built in if your internet goes down.

You don't need anywhere near £300 to get a good VDSL Router, and even if you don't get Pro, if your internet goes down and you push customer service for it they'll post you a dongle or put extra data on your phone if you're with Vodafone to keep you going anyways. So very little to gain from the extras.

Just signed up two properties using Cityfibre’s supplier ‘Octaplus’.
£21/month 150 download and 150 upload. 18 month contract. £20 extra for 12 month option.
One install complete with minor issue sorted by phone call.
Maybe worth looking at if you want short commitment.

TP link WiFi 6 router supplied by Octaplus  (edited)

    Good luck with that.
I signed up with them and got an email to say they have my direct debit details and then nothing, no install, no contact, nothing. And when I phoned them they denied getting my order...even though they sent me my direct debit details in an email confirmation.

Question for anyone already with Vodafone do the speeds slow down on City Fibre during peak times say 6-11pm? Has it been reliable with little downtime? I know this can also depend on how many subscribers are in your area so I won't take it as gospel.
    arichar's avatar
Yes, I'm lucky to get 200mbps down during off peak, peak its well below this, tried technical support etc and the guarantee speed is useless as you can't prove it and even let anyone know as they will say "all fine my end" useless, I'm leaving Vodafone as soon as my contract is up and willing to pay more for actual speeds they say! And I'm connected with Ethernet cat6, not WiFi, which blows the support teams minds (edited)

I've been with Vodafone 100mb for a few years and actually haven't had any issues but they aren't price matching this new customer offer.

My contract ends at the end of March. Does anybody know if My spouse would qualify as a new customer so we could get new price and cashback? She's not named on current account.

If so would we need to use different account for payments? It's currently coming out of joint account

I know others who've find this no problem with Virgin previously but not sure if Vodafone might be difficult
    DonGeorge's avatar
Tell them you are leaving at the end of the contract and they will come in your way.

So the service is pretty solid, but it gets routed weirdly. So you might live in Kent but your traffic goes to Manchester or Edinburgh before getting onto the internet.

However the support is beyond a joke. They haven't a clue. Or they are flat out wrong. If you have cityfibre, choose anyone else.

Great if you can get access to these speeds, I’m happy with 70mb for now.

If you are not Vodafone CUstomer, is it still possible to get this deal. EVen if the discount not as good as Vodafone existing customer

I have 900mb and Asus RT-AC86U router. When they installed the fibre-City Fibre in our area, I was 1st connected on our street and the speed was 800+/800+, a year later it dropped to 450-550 download/600-700 upload.
I pay £33, but my contract ends in May, so I am looking for a new deal, but I guess this is for new customers only. Unless someone has managed to get this deal as an existing customer?
  22. andy_spoo's avatar
I like the way they say 'Apple TV 4K on us' and charge you extra to get it. I'm calling BS on that.
  23. jlpeaks's avatar
Damn.. I signed on to the 500mbs for £30 deal on 9th February but as far as I’m aware that’s subject to inflationary rises and not price locked.

As I’m in an Openreach area that tariff is currently showing £33pm. I’d likely have saved by being on that plan.
