I remember playing the original 2600 sometime in the mid to late 80s staying up late getting a really high score on Missile Command, we took a picture and waited for the 24 frames of the camera to fill up, sent the film away to be processed and so probably waited for months to get the picture back only then to find the flash when taking the picture had totally obliterated the screen content. It was another age

    Mid to late 80s?

It was pretty much obsolete by then!  I remember playing it in 1978 and it was all about Combat (which came with the console), Space Invaders and then Adventure!.

Funny how film cameras and vinyl have made such a comeback. Turns out instant gratification isn't as gratifying as everyone thought.

While it's cool that they make ones that play original cartridges now, I'd say that unless you have a bunch of old carts already you'd be better off with one of the flashback units (usually over 100 games each) or a copy of Atari 50 for the modern system of your choice.

Yeah, this won't play flashcarts either, hence the dip switches on the included cart.

    Activision, not Atari.

I need 'Combat' but I'm not paying over £60.00 for it.

I had an Atari in the mid to late 90s. My favourite game for it was rampage then keystone capers pacman and paper boy. Ghostbusters was way too hard. Couldn't get past the first level.

ordered this but honestly, not that sure if i actually want it. Love retro gaming but i find, with a few exceptions, 2600 games really hard to go back to, really gaming for me started proper with the next wave of 8 bit systems like the Speccy, C64 and NES/Master System. 2600 games are just so basic (for the most part).

Also, just not sure I want to start building a library of dusty 2600 carts (doubt the 10 included games would last long).

Only possible reason I'm considering keeping it is the price and possible future collectible value of this, but I guess that depends how many they have/are making?

    Have you played it yet?

I am tempted as the SNES mini classic has definitely got me back into retro gaming, but as you say not sure if this is a step too far backwards in terms of playability/longetivity.

I like the romance of it all and even been looking at the original 2600 woody’s but perhaps I am getting swept up too much!
