Are these as good as they say for drying clothes if we put them on a rack in a bathroom with door closed? Thanks!
    andy1405's avatar
My one transformed drying clothes in my studio flat. Now stuff dries overnight instead of taking 2 days.

I just bit the bullet on the 20l one at £187 contemplated last time at £200 but don't think they'll go cheaper than £187 (I could be wrong)

Edit, do you need to change the filter or anything like that? (edited)
    Old_King_Doran's avatar
Hepa filter is recommended to be replaced every 4 months but they are around 39 coins of the realm for a 3 pack, atleast for the 25l I bought.

As for the filter on the back it gets clogged with dust, I just use an air duster to blow it out. Make sure you're outside of course lol.

Is the noise acceptable that I can sleep with it being on?
    bayhabourbutcher's avatar
the noise on the 10L & 12L on slow fan mode is pretty quiet & sleeping should not be an issue

the noise on the 25L in "sleep" mode (LEDs turn off) is a lot louder & the fan doesnt seem to slow down as far as I can tell as the noise stays the same - I can sleep through it as its just a background white noise but possibly some people may find it too loud

My 25L unit does have a HEPA filter though which increases the noise level - you can remove the filter to make it quieter (edited)

Finally charging reasonable prices for these things. Is there any efficiency difference between the models or just water capacity?
    bayhabourbutcher's avatar
larger ones are more efficient & work better at lower temperatures

at lower temperatures the smaller ones go into defrost only mode more often so still use electric but are not dehumidifying

also the larger ones will reach the desired humidity quicker then turn off whereas the smaller ones may never reach the desired humidity & so stay on all the time (thats what I have found with my 12L &25L ones - 12L one struggles to get below 60% humidity so ends up being on all the time) (edited)

I recently got the 20 litre version. Has any one studied theirs? Mine did work in cycles. Typically it would dehumidify for about 20 mins, then the fans would still run but the air out would be cold and humidity would rise for about 20 mins. Then it would output warm air and the humidity would drop again for about 20 mins. But today I set it off about 3pm and it's not switched to the 'cold cycle' and humidity has been held down all the time. I

(Yes I tried setting a rh that would be hit inside the 20 mins thus only using electricity to dehumidify on the 'warm cycle ' as the unit will Turn off when the target rh is hit).
    MunkiMagic's avatar
The dehumidifier runs and stops once it reaches it target humidity (default is 55%). It then goes into “sleep” mode and turns on every 30 mins to check the air, by using the fan.

What you’ve explained is basically the dehumidifier doing its job of reducing humidity, going to sleep, then waking up when needed (maybe someone took a shower or is cooking, raising moisture levels).

This saves you money as it isn’t running for hours constantly, and drying the air too much. (edited)

Given that we’re (hopefully) approaching summer, would it be a better option for me to get an air conditioning unit that has a dehumidifying mode? I assume they’re not as good at dehumidifying as a dedicated one, but would that be more sensible? We don’t dry too many clothes indoors and have a heat pump tumble dryer, but we do get mould above a couple of windows upstairs. Any insights would be appreciated.

It would be but too expensive to run

Very hot! Best price I've seen for 25l.

New models with wifi connectivity are expected at month end.
    EndemicAlarm's avatar
Permanent wifi connection would put the electricity usage up, so unless you have a specific need for more than on/off then I would suggest a smart plug is possibly the better option as it's upgradeable and replaceable and have Zigbee alternatives which use far less standby power than Wifi ones. That said, if you never connect the WiFi then the additional power consumption should be zero.

Almost all usage of a dehumidifer is going to be turning it on at the power level you want and letting it turn off automatically. (edited)

They were really good for me recently and in the past. Also good with the family too. Easy return no hassle, and have been swift with resolving other issues.

Just for info if it helps. (edited)

I have this one, bought from Amazon 13th March 2023 for £90, it's good for drying clothes. I couldn't use it in a room I was in as the noise is distracting. Its small and not too heavy. Even when not drying clothes you'd be surprised with how much water it collects

I need one for one bedroom any advice?

    12l would do

Can anyone advise the default state at switch on?
I'm looking to switch off overnight and back on in the morning using a smart plug. If its running when switched off at the mains, will it resume at the same settings when power is reconnected, or would I need to reset the mode etc?
    EndemicAlarm's avatar
According to these people, it will work ideally with a smart plug.

So does anyone know if the warranty will be valid on this? (authorised reseller, but selling through an auction site, which they seem to be warning against in the warranty terms ) (edited)

In a 3 bed semi is it best to have one upstairs and downstairs?

I’ve just got the 25l, does my whole 3 bed house , very impressed with it , cost about 5p an hour to run

Hello I have a meaco but doesn’t run well in our house as too cold temp then goes into frost mode.

    will this be the same?
    lotuschap's avatar
Probably, as it's not a desiccant dehumidifier so won't be able to operate at very low room temps. You need something like a meaco ddl8 for low temps.
  19. Nik29's avatar
Ordered 12L for a 2-bed house. Primarily need it to dry clothes and hopefully to remove the ‘musty’ smells!
    burfop's avatar
Have found the 12l far too slow at drying clothes and also seems to take ages to reach target humidity, so would definitely recommend going for the 20l or 25l .
  20. Raider0001's avatar
    Great price!

I have the older platinum 12l version which is about 5 yrs old and still going ok, but very tempted to buy this model.

    Decisions, decisions......
    Me_Me_5862's avatar
If it's still working why waste your money? If you dump your old one then that's more waste. There's no need for an upgrade.

Bought the 20L for downstairs and I have already a 20L upstairs.

Very good price. I bought mine exactly 31 days ago from this seller so can't negotiate discount grrrr
    FMCHAOS's avatar
And if it was less than 31 days do they allow a price match?

Purchased the 20l. Perfect timing OP - thanks for posting.

Just this morning I had Curry's price match Appliances Direct at £235.97 and was given a price match code to use from 7:30am tomorrow.

Had I not seen this post, I would have purchased it tomorrow at a much higher price!

Spare a thought for this sucker who bought via Currys using gift cards, and I've thrown away the box for good measure.

Great price! I have the 25l model, very good product. Paid £260 back in Nov last year, so £225 is nice!
  26. zorbathegeek's avatar
I bought my first dehumidifier a few months back and it's been great. The first year I've not had to sponge off my leaky old windows! I'm assuming the air filter works too because I've not had so much as an allergy sniffle.
This Meaco is top notch and a great price. 12L has proved more than enough for me.

Purchased from this seller last time - next day delivery via DPD - These are excellent and very quiet... have the ABC model as well but this is quieter and better value with the air purifier with the added benefit that it can be sited against the wall whilst the other needs to be 12in/30cm away... highly recommended
    Zikohh's avatar
Afaik it's this model that requires to be 30cm away from wall which is why I didn't buy?
  29. AG18's avatar
    Thanks ordered
  30. Maples's avatar
Ordered 12L one earlier and got an email saying it’s been dispatched by DPD. Will probably actually be dispatched and on its way later on, and be with me tomorrow.

Was tempted to get the 20L model but it’s a bit bigger than what I can handle for the location I want to place it in. £135 for the 12L one is a great price if it holds up.

I was previously using a cheap £40 off Amazon that only does 450ml.

I paid £152.98 last week, I am tempted to return and order again
  33. schmoog's avatar
I could be wrong but you've probably only got a few weeks left to run these as we're going into Spring.

As temperatures rise, humidity does and I think a lot of people get the idea they need one of these. Dehumidifiers crank out a fair bit of heat which I found useful in the winter but in my experience, that extra thermal load precludes running them entirely once the weather warms even slightly.

That said, I live in a really energy efficient home which is an absolute oven in the summer.

I found out the hard way that you can't really use these in warm humid weather at all. And ours made the room oppressively warm even in Autumn last year. Once we were in the winter it just cut down how much we switched on the heating / took the chill off.

We have the 12L model so I imagine the bigger models run hotter. I hear desiccant models run even warmer! I will rejoice the day they design one that emits next to no exhaust heat. (edited)
    markgh's avatar
Depends how you use it. I run one in a spare room with the door closed to dry laundry and it's ideal as the weather gets more humid. I use it all year round and actually find it more necessary in summer.

It does add heat to the room, so I don't leave it running if someone is staying over in that room.

Does anyone know if you use one of these with a smart plug to turn on at a set time. Will it start up on the same setting it turned off with. Or does it require you to press start on the machine after the smart plug turns on.
    matt_james27's avatar
on the meaco site they advise against using a timer as cutting the power from it this way can damage the unit
