Where are we all getting our chocolate from.

Pendragon Drinks do great 1kg catering sizes of different hot chocolates. Used them 3 or 4 times and happy each time. (edited)

If you want an alternative to the ridiculous prices of Hotel Chocolat and don't want the extreme sugar content of Pendragon then M&S do an identical version to HC and for £4.50, I like all versions but the blondie is sugary. M&S also do a good hazelnut sugar free syrup which when added to the chocolate makes it taste incred!

Which product exactly are you referring to, at M&S? Thanks

Works great as a milk frother too

Really good these, my wife often buys kitchen gadgets for them to sit in a cupboard unused ( who needs a cake pop machine )

The kids use this everyday and they make really nice hot chocolates without mess, can use my coco powder in them along with the flakes of chocolate you get.

Good machine but luke warm drinks

After it’s made the drink I just press the power button again. It runs for about 15 seconds and piping hot.

Daughter loves Hot Chocolate and really like the look of this , As above post can you go elsewhere for the flakes to make it more cost effective and if so were ?
    Cheers

    Pendragon 1kg bags. Very nice.

To those saying double button press for a very hot drink. Don’t. It can mess up the whisk. It’s plenty hot enough on one go or pop the cup in the microwave after

Get this if you havent. I had an aldi frother I used to make hot choc with and was impressed. Dark choc bars from aldi chopped and melted but then.....got this....the frother has never been used again. Its amazing. Yes, the hotel choc stuff is expensive but for a treat its great. Pre heat your mug. You cant go wrong.

    How does this work?
Will it go in the dish washer ?
Just comparing it to our Lavazza milk frother which has a removable induction heated jug and magnetic spinner.
    Jules.Tohpipi's avatar
It's an electrical item and the liquid area doesn't detach. So it can't go in the dishwasher.

But the frothing action is equally good at cleaning the device as making hot chocolate. Refill with water and a single drop of Fairy liquid and leave on for two minutes - empty and an easy wipe clean inside.

Very roughly speaking, quality coffee milk frothers tend to work the liquid into a foam. The Velvetiser has a coarser whisk and the effect on the liquid is more like creating a hot milkshake. It's very good. (edited)

Is it possible to use this for coffee as well as hot chocolate? If so, what kind of coffee should go in it? Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

Also, anyone know the volume of the pods? Does one velvetiser serving fill two of the pods or just one? (edited)
    Jules.Tohpipi's avatar
Never tried it with just coffee but HC make an excellent range of chocolate latte sachets for it.

Filling the Velvetiser to its max line fills one of the supplied pod cups. On my kitchen scales I measure the volume of the pod cups to be 275 ml (that's to a smidge under the rim). (edited)

We’ve got this had for few years - some in past have said do the same with a milk frother - that is rubbish. This makes lovely velvety hot chocolate. This seems good price, it was £90 when we given as present. Hot

Dualit if you want the same machine but lower cost.. not as pretty tho

Thanks OP, been wanting one of these for ages. Now just need to find a way to hide it from the kids so that I can enjoy it in peace.

My husband does this the times a day and once a night for hot choc 😄

Keep wanting to get this as I love hot chocolate and the powders at home do not compare well to melting chocolate callets.
    Jaybeam's avatar
I’d get it at this price!

Looks like the RRP is now £109.95.
Offer on these was always £30 off at £69.95 so this is a great deal.
    Daft.Punk's avatar
That’s with additional chocolate, remove it to get the price down to £99.95 (edited)

How different is this from heating up the flakes in milk on a stove or microwave? I’ve even made some of their own flakes this way and it tastes rather good, I’m wondering how big the difference is?
    Mobb_Deep's avatar
Well Microwave isn't a good way to heat milk it ruins it

But this Vs a Stove I think it would identical taste wise but you don't have to clean up a large pot or put a stove on whilst constantly stirring, lower electricity costs you could just turn it on and do other things whilst a stove you gotta watch and for warming milk and chocolate on stove you gotta constantly stir on low heat

I like Hot Chocolate before Bed tho and with Milk only but I dont every day because of the effort (edited)

Excellent price for an excellent product. My wife sadly no longer uses hers & it now lives in a cupboard. Hopefully she doesn’t do the same to me.

Due to the cost of living wot not, I've decided to save some money on this. The gardener and the maid can share the use of the one I bought the pool boy.

I decided to choose this as the healthy choice, the other option was a home candy floss maker

Finally bit the bullet. Now need to work out where to buy the chocolate from. Thanks for posting.
    dc89's avatar
You don’t have to buy their chocolate or for that matter any fancy chocolate.

Sure it’s better than any powdered stuff but that still works fine in this
  35. darkstryder360's avatar
Order at 3 today and already with the courier
    MJ_91's avatar
Did you do standard or next day?

Mine is only deducting the delivery if standard, adds full amount of change to next day.. are you using app or website? (edited)

    Is this a hotukdeal? 10 sachets of drinking chocolate £13… let’s assume a family of four drink 3 hot chocs each a week… over 3 years = £2,433. 💰💰💰

    🧊🥶
    MJ_91's avatar
Why on earth would you buy their own at that price? You can use any finely flaked chocolate like everyone else does 🪱

this seems a no brainer to anyone after it. I like hot chocolate and always had an eye on this, so i did some research. It seems just over £1 a drink with the sachets you use with it; with cheaper alternatives available. Might be a £10 a month commitment for a drink every 3 days; plus the sugar/calorie consumption of course. I decided not to bother for those reasons. If money was less of an object I'd probably get it but ultimately in 5 years whether you pay £59 for this, or £100, you'll be paying enough in sachets / product that it'll make the saving negligible.
