The five pack is even cheaper at £29.40!

Dunno why they class these as light switches, most uk switches do not have a neutral run to them and although some are modified to do with out the need to track down the last bulb on the line and fit a capacitor is not possible for a lot of people.

I bought a single unit looks very similar to these and used it to replace a faulty switch on a table lamp but the EwElink app is awful, pesters you to sign in and loses your devices, not a patch on smart-life which i use for everything else.

i use these as light switches

i just leave the existing switch on, and use these to actually control the light.

The old model, replaced by BasicR3 and now the BasicR4

Looks like these need to be connected to a Chinese server?

most of them are, and they will bypass your firewall as well, if you can setup your router for a guest network and allocate the 2.4GHz to that for them only.

I love Sonoff products been using sonoff for around 5 years has been very reliable. I have WiFi and Zigbee products all been great and works perfect in home assistant.

Search for Tasmota which can be flashed to open these up and make them more useable.

    Nothing but a faff.
Switch on, switch off that's all they need to do.

I have 3 of these and recently (last few months) all of them have all of a sudden become unreliable with random drop offs on the network. I have lots of other smart devices and plugs that have been fine and are still reliable.
My guess is that there are server issues with these

In the, at a guess, 4 years I have had mine installed. They have had server issues twice that I can remember. And none of them were any time in the recent past

I bought these a few weeks back. Have worked perfectly since.
Nice and small to fit in the actual light rather than the light switch.

I bought a few of these for around £2 each few years ago and this feels way tooooo expensive... However they are great and I've been using them for years without any issues

Same here, but worth the price if I needed to replace
