You'd be visiting quite a few destinations - the airlines vary from (but most aren't full-service - this post is aimed mostly at backpackers, so don't expect too much luxury.

Plenty of places across the world to wash clothes etc. - make sure you plan accommodation and itineraries, this is just based on flights.
All flights are direct and start and return to London
First you'll visit America (Los Angeles), followed by Hawaii (Honolulu), Japan (Tokyo, plenty of time to explore other parts too), then a final Asia Leg (Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur) before visiting the Maldives and signing off in Dubai - before you head home to London.

Yes it’s hard finding a bargain but it can be done
I think the Maldives accommodation will cost me out of this one though!
It depends on what you consider as "unpopular", some may not like say the Maldives as they've already visited Hawaii etc. - for most destinations it's a decent time to visit but using the Dubai example, it can get a bit hot post May. You can always adjust the itinerary too, for instance Sydney over Tokyo. It's personal preference really, most of these should be ok though!
You should probably set aside a 2 month period and list the places you want then tweak the order with random places (e.g. New York instead of LA)
Glad it's inspiring some trips
Might take the kids out of school for 2 months and risk the £60 fine.
Don't think they'll miss much, a couple of GCSEs or A Levels, they can resit. (edited)
