Competition Pro Extra USB Joystick - Anniversary Edition

Let's go into the 80s.

Specially developed for the 20th anniversary of the Speedlink brand, the Competition Pro Extra USB joystick is a declaration of love for nostalgic computer games. Its design with the distinctive arcade machine stick and the technology correspond to the original Competition Pro from the 1980s, the famous popular joystick for home computers. With this in mind, it is digitally designed and suitable for arcade and retro games.

So that they are also available immediately, there are also 20 games to download in addition to the Competition Pro Extra. The joystick is installed quickly and without driver, and ready to use directly thanks to DirectInput. It can be used on PC from Windows 7 upwards and on Android devices via OTG adapter.

  • Suitable for arcade and retro games on PCs and Android devices

  • Includes game pack with 20 games to download (Windows only)
  • Windows 7 or later: Direct input, driverless installation.

Zipstick was my joystick for the Amiga. I still have it and it still works great.

That was only on the Sinclair spectrum (Sinclair interface 1, 2, or kempston were the usual options), not other 8bit systems. Which mostly had Atari style 9 pin D ports built in, except for a few oddities that changed pins or used a round mini din socket instead (If I remember correctly, the spectrum plus 2/3 and commodore c16 and plus 4 also had mini din).

Bounced enough of these and the pro off the wall in a rage over the years, mad how much of a kicking they took compared to Xbox/ ps controllers.

I destroyed a few of these (along with other ‘sticks) with Daley Thompson’s Decathlon on the Amstrad 464.

That be the poor man's Quickshot II

Can't remember which year it was but the amount of 125's with missing switches behind the button was crazy, when ever you brought one you made the shop actually plug it in to make sure it worked first.

Remember Curry's having them and the 5 they opened for my mate none had the left button or right button and they even had one with nothing it in was just the shell the quality control was shocking back then thy could get away with anything.

I had one that lasted through my Speccy and Amiga gaming youth. I must have taken it apart a 100 times to try and get it to work better when it became not as responsive.

Remember dominating sensible soccer games with one of these as a young gamer….

Ahhh memories...the Quickshot or the Kempston Competition Pro (from Kempston Micros) were the 2 big sellers in the mid 80's.
All my friends had a quickshot, but i'm no sheep, and i preferred the Kempston

Very good price. Payed about 20 quid a while ago and thought that was a good deal. Also reminded me to actually un-box it!

Used to sell these by the bucket, in Canterbury in a shop called ComputerWorld (yes like the old mag). Had all of these and more, tested them also… the best one was the clear Competition Pro 500 (might have been 5000), the microswitches rather than the “clicky and sticky” push to contact bent tin switches (I am sure they had a name).
The worst was the cheetah, as linked above, it looked great and sold as part of a pack with the old A500’s but they broke in no time and we had hundreds of returns.

    No drifting in sight (edited)

I just couldn't get on with a Competition Pro. Loved the Quickshot 2 the best. Even had a Quickshot 3 where you could change the handles to three different ones.

Not a patch on the Zipstik. Now that was the best joystick of them all.

Anyone saying that a quick shot was the best is mental - a couple of games of decathlon and they would snap.
