I fitted a similar thing for my Dad. I drilled a 3mm hole through the bottom corner of the PVC window and used these to extend the wire. I installed the cameras right next to where the window opens so if they needed moving/cleaning or maintenance you can access them from inside - didn't want him climbing ladders!

I have these. Good cameras for monitoring and alerting. Can even activate internal siren if movement detected

It's a 5V cable in the other side, so a 7mm hole (I think) was wide enough where I needed one.

Don't forget to drill at a slightly upwards angle, and droploop your cable from the outside, to prevent water ingress.
    Raspy's avatar
Exactly this. Rubber wall grommet or just fill the hole with silicone.

Does anyone know where to get an extension for the cable? I`m running a bit short

Had mine going over 3 years now.

They're good for quick, easy, and cheap camera options; saves having to run wires all around my house and needing a box plugged in 24/7. The app is also easy to use.

Can record 24/7 or motion activated, can record for free straight into a micro SD (max 128GB), at various resolultions up to 2k (I set mine to 1080p), and you can also buy a subscription if you want to for cloud upload.

Although, I had to get a replacement after the first winter, because there was water ingress in the SD card slot which damaged a few things. Customer service did replace it after a few photos.

Ended up putting electrical tape over the SD card slot to prevent further ingress, and going fine since. (edited)

As you rarely need to remove SD cards I generally put a bit of silicone sealant over, if necessary that will just peel off, do it with all my cameras now

Bargain, just ordered. We use these at work for machine monitoring and they are really good

Are these wired or battery powered?
    andiron87's avatar
    Amazon comment:
"You should note that the unit uses a transformer power lead which requires a socket (if intending to power from exisitng external lights) and not the longest cable. Otherwise great bit of kit at a great price."

It says either ethernet or Wifi so it can connect to your router wireless, but no battery, wired connection.
  8. tinfoilhat's avatar
that's a worse deal? these are 3mp and the ones in this listing are 2k resolution

I got 4 of the 1080p ones around 3 years ago for my mum's house, they work really well, she uses them every day
    McFlufftang's avatar
    Glad she's getting daily usage
  10. dtctd's avatar
How are people managing the cable?, with the sockets on the end it looks like you'd have to drill a large hole through the wall to route it inside.
    corred1964's avatar
I simply go through a window, they will close with no damage to window or cable

Guessing non-local storage is just cloud? Anyone used TP links cloud subscription? link please if you have thanks.
    MrHT's avatar
You can use both cloud OR SD card, cloud use with subscription and SD card without
  12. Sir_Didymus's avatar
These are rubbish! I've got two installed currently and they're a nightmare if there's any changes to the WiFi. Be ready to get a ladder out and press the reset button.
    jason2iwu's avatar
    What sort of changes?
  13. MrJinxy's avatar
The cable design is poor on these, the fact you can’t remove the chunky Ethernet adaptor so you have to drill a huge hole to feed it through. I’m aware some have fed through windows etc but when you want to install on brick wall on a garage you don’t have that option
    tonymx's avatar
Another option is to mount it on one of the plastic exterior junction boxes, and put the cable inside that

Can't recommend CCTV enough. We installed a couple of cameras to cover our back passageway which is not particularly well lit at night.
Literally within a few weeks it caught a chap trying our back door in the early hours of the morning. He didn't get in, but it was frightening to see none the less!.

We submitted the video footage to the police, who recognised the guy (ironically he was on release for good behaviour from prison) and he was promptly arrested again.

Without the cameras we would have been none the wiser. (edited)

Does it record 24/7 or just motion thanks

    Both

If you have a Synology NAS you can link it to that too. Synology NAS drives come with Security Station and have a license for one or two cameras as standard.
  17. pagehamillton's avatar
Looks good do you need to subscribe
    jamesturner280783's avatar
No juat put an sd card in no need for subscription

I've recently ordered one from John Lewis, but that model number is C320WS for 39.99 but as yet not picked it up.
Can anyone help me with understanding the differences between the two, currently looking myself...

Is 3 megapixel a bit too low for reading the plates?
    corred1964's avatar
This image is taken using my oldest CCTV camera, 4 years old, probably not much bigger than 1Mp....you can read the number plates, being replaced this week !!52579119-7IWAk.jpg (edited)

    Any recommendations for wireless cameras?
    amwjujo's avatar
These are wirless cameras that also come with an RJ45 connector. You can use that connector with a POE adapter(injector) and power them over ethernet.

If you are looking for battery-powered cameras:
Tapo 2K QHD Wireless Outdoor Security Camera, 2-Cam with Hub included, 180-Day Rechargeable Battery, 4MP, Colour Night Vision, AI Detection, SD Storage, Works with Alexa & Google (Tapo C420S2) amzn.eu/d/b…waW
  22. muffboy's avatar
I'm confused! How are these powered? Comments state "saves running wires", surely that cannot be the case?
    amwjujo's avatar
    9V adapter.
  23. Anj_Williams's avatar
Can i view it from outside Uk?
    Poucave's avatar
Yes, using the app , from anywhere with an Internet connection
  24. jason2iwu's avatar
Is a subscription required for the notifications?
    Majik's avatar
    Nope
  25. Drj131's avatar
Can these be powered over POE whilst using WiFi to to connect to the internet? We have ethernet cables running to two locations for cameras, but don't want to connect them to a PC using ethernet, just want to power them via the cable.
    amwjujo's avatar
You can do that if you get a POE adapter and a POE switch.

The camera doesn't support POE by default but if you already have the ethernet cable at the location where you want to install the camera it might worth getting the switch and power it this way, sparing you of the hassle of where to plug in the camera.

A POE 4 ports switch costs around £18.

I want to install this on a lampost with a 240v feed is there an outside power adaptor available to make installation easier?
    corred1964's avatar
You would need to find some sort of transformer that can drop the power to 5V/1A
  27. bargain_daddy's avatar
I want to use these cameras internally. Where do these save the video/ audio recordings?

    SD card
  28. qwerty09876's avatar
Would it be possible to somehow split a single ethernet cable, powering existing CCTV cams through PoE, into two in order to enable connecting both these cameras through the single wired connection instead of relying on WiFi? (edited)
    Uncle_Arthur's avatar
Yes...but it would require splitting the cat5e/6 cable into 2 at switch and at termination.
You only need 3 of the cores per camera.
  29. rushofoxygen's avatar
One ethernet cable to connect to both cameras?
  30. Mark300ZX's avatar
Wondering if these need wifi access 24/7 or if you just wanted to view previous footage it could be done via a hot-spot and a tablet?
  31. HottestDeal's avatar
Is the 2/3 year extended warranty worthwhile?
  32. Mark300ZX's avatar
I doubt it, with the speed at which tech is moving these will be old hat in a couple of years!
    HottestDeal's avatar
But if it fails I can get a refund / equivalent.
they won’t be able to repair it - that’s a given.
putting them up at my mums, not looking at replacing 3-5 years time.
  33. pete_101's avatar
How long is the power cable with these?
    Speedee's avatar
9 or 10 feet from memory.
  34. designer_friend's avatar
Is the quality good enough for spying on neighbours behaviour?
    Uncle_Arthur's avatar
Depends on the size of his behaviour
  35. pateo's avatar
Can these be powered by small solar panels
  36. Crowberry's avatar
What I don’t understand is why any intruder couldn’t just reach up and pull them off the wall. This puts me off getting them. What might I be missing? And evidence is stored in an out of reach SD Card. (edited)
  37. Sylar2023's avatar
Are there any subscriptions or upsells on this? And any way to mount these in rented property i.e. without drilling / screws? (edited)
  38. r9000's avatar
3MP is not "ultra high definition".
