If your laptop charges via Type C, much better to get a 12v to PD charger.

These things are safe to have in the car, just don't plug it in.

These are terrible... 120w, and crackable plastic.

Guy will accept £15 ish and are 500w and much more substantial.

Still only 130w when plugged in. Surely the one in this thread would be OK for just charging a laptop or something?

These any good for kettles? (edited)

A travel kettle will be circa 700 watts and a domestic kettle anywhere between 1800 watts and 3Kw. The product under discussion here won't get close. You can get 12v kettles but they aren't really up to the job. 24V kettles can boil 3 mugs in 15-20 mins but you will need a buck converter to boost 12v to 24v. If you need hot water on the go, stick to gas and get a jetboil For completeness, you can get inverters that will allow electric kettles but you won't be able to plug those into your cigarette lighter, they would need a direct connection to your battery.....and they won't be 16 sheets!

You're gonna need a stronger AC/DC adaptor, this sucker will limit you to 24w

I don't believe it. The Cigarette lighter circuit will blow a fuse. And even if it did work it would run the car battery flat.

    15amp x 12v = 180w before blowing the car fuse

Had our car broken into and one of these (a decent Kensington one) was all they took

Shame it didn't have a Kensington lock too!

DC to AC then AC back to DC for laptop seems inefficient.

Can I use this to charge my tesla ?
    thermomonkey's avatar
That's a rediculous idea; you'd have to leave a window / door open to get the cable out.

    Looks handy, thanks

Check you can't charge with us c before buying this. Even if you have a Dell etc with a barrel jack they often support usbc charging too.
