The techradar10 code seems to work site-wide. I've gone through the in-stock refurbs to work out the price per TB. Sweet spot is westerndigital.com/en-…ESN52605350-Sdsfv.jpg

Any idea what drive is inside?

Likely white label as they no longer put reds in externals, but all WD drives over 6TB are CMR.

Eeek their failure rate for fix-up drives is horrendous. I would avoid for anything but easily replaceable data TBH.

I would second that - I had bought 2 of these drives previosuly as they seemed good value. Both of the drives died. Have never bought WD drives again. USE CAUTION.

I'd avoid the Acronis® True Image - it's time limited (5 years) and it produced a corrupt backup file which I couldn't delete - had to reformat the disk. Also the software installation is a pain - see amazon reviews for the 18% bug etc.

Heat added - nice find, it's under my £15/TB threshold, I may just buy a few!

    The 18TB works out @ £13.50/TB... (edited)

They are very slow tbh I remember I had to buy extra software on this to make it work as a stream client some years ago then this whole thing failed

Better off to go for a bdxl writer and bdxl for longterm storage,

100gb per disk, yet will last for upto 1000 years uncorrupted if stored correctly.

Don't lose your data due to corruption. (edited)

This is definitely worth a second though, although a lot more costly than it sounds lol

Very good deal for this capacity.
I've got a 10gb. Not a second hand one. It's got my roon music on it and I've no issues.

Do you know if this will work if I plug it directly into the TV? I have so many movies that I wish to transfer to one decent drive
    mrpipster's avatar
It should work, but it might take your TV some Time to read all the files, my LG takes a while to get its head around anything over 5GB if it's full of large 4K movies.

Wonder if I can plug this straight into my android phone or with an adaptor? Will the phone be able to provide enough juice to power the HDD?
