I would wait for July-October when you get free airpods or £100 apple credit.

What makes you think this? I’m aware of Black Friday Apple offers but no July / October sales? Thanks

Yeah the summer deals were great last year, Base Mac Mini M2s were down for £649 to £539 with the standard student discount then they chucked in a £100 apple gift card during the summer as well £439 for a M2 Mac Mini was a no brainer,

Let hope the M4 version is out in time for this summers offer ;-)

Personally just back stepped my entire setup, was using M2 Mac Mini, but sold that while the prices are still good awaiting what happens with the M4 release.

Moved back to a Mac Pro 2013 Trashcan, and realised what a great machine it is for handling heavy workloads of downloads etc

12 Core Xeon CPU, 64Gb Ram, 2x D500 Graphics Cards, 1Tb SSD for less than £200 on the second hand market and apart from power consumption its so much better overall than the M2 (Plus it can run windows as well!!) (edited)

I'm pretty sure the Apple silicon computers leave the Intel computers in the dust.

The apple student discount is usually 10%, this is less lol.

They are changing the program to offer fixed discounts across all their products. The iMac is the same fixed £100 off.

Did they used to offer 10% discounts on iPads anyway? I thought it was a lot less previously, if anything.

So a £100 fixed discount on the iPad Pro models means the discount is only 10% on the base 11 inch iPad Pro model, and closer to 3% on a fully kitted out 13 inch iPad Pro. It seems that Apple’s Educational discounts have become generally a lot less generous. In my opinion, a short sighted policy, arguably the cost of funding a proper 10% discount is relatively small, compared to the benefit of, hooking students into the Apple ecosystem early in life. given that apples educational discounts appear to be generally smaller, and are calculated as discounts from the full RRP, it can be cheaper to buy Apple products from third-party resellers who offer discounted products to everyone, thereby in many cases negating the benefit of an educational discount altogether. The one remaining benefit however is that you can configure the to your needs by buying from Apple. (edited)

Apple blew the pre uni education market a very long time ago through zero investment, when the iPad came out schools often bought into them heavily but appalling management software and none existent education tools allowed google to dominate the market with fast sub £200 chromebooks, that are easy to manage and have excellent classroom tools which are constantly being improved.

Any of y'all using iPads as a laptop replacement? Because £999 is crazy money for a secondary device to have in addition to a laptop.

Tried but IPadOS just lacks the features of MacOS and as you said at a similar price point I’d go for the Mac over the IPad. (edited)
