Would this be a worthwhile upgrade over the 5600x?

It depends on what you use it for and what memory you have (Ryzen performance is very dependent on fast memory).

But overall a 5600X is more than good enough for most people. You'll need a new motherboard and new memory to upgrade.

    From who though?
A legit company that'll honour the warranty or some bloke called Mike in Swansea?

OP posted a budget board too (well, budget at this moment in time when they all still cost too much) -

Doesn't have the best power phase setup in the world, but I've seen much worse.
Should handle the 7600X (as well as 7700X) no problem.

Just stick a half decent air cooler on it and it'll keep the VRM's in check.
Obviously not an OC'ers board. (edited)

Amazing processor for gaming. I have this combined with an rtx4080 and it’s a brilliant combo.

Amazing how people can spend £1000+ on a GPU and then cheap out on the CPU like this. Not that it's a bad CPU by any means, but you'd think even a 7800X3D wouldn't be a stretch given the budget you're obviously willing to extend for your PC...

I'm voting hot, performance at around the 5800X3D level for £200. It's just a shame the decent b650 motherboards are so expensive compared to the AM4 days. None the less a very good price for this CPU.

All boards are up in price. Even budget B450 boards cost way more now than they did a few years ago. You can get a good A620 board for £98 or a good B650 board for £132 though.

    This + cheapo b650 + crucial 4800 cl40 is a good starter pack into am5 (edited)

Do you have any examples of a cheap B650? They all look pretty pricey from what I've seen so far. Toying with moving up to AM5
Edit: thank you, missed adding some manners! (edited)

I am waiting for the 7700 to drop. As I was going to get the 7600 but the 7700 hold its own up against the 7850. Looking at cl30 as well as this gives you a good 10 to 15 frames extra so I have herd as memory on the AMD systems is crucial

Also want the none x version as the power efficacy s very good
    ComingInHot's avatar

Often the X versions are actually cheaper and they probably have better binned chips. You can decrease the power consumption by adjusting settings in BIOS or Ryzen Master. The non-X CPUs come with a hald-decent cooler.

Zen 4 is good, but zen 5 is much much much better. No, this isn't a tech joke- the zen 4 is effectively a dead end, and the zen 5 tech is full steam ahead at AMD. When it comes to CPUs (sadly not GPUs), AMD is on fire.

This is what i currently have and its still kicking ass for most games..
    AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. TUF GAMING X570-PRO (WI-FI) (AM4)
    16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR4 @ 1499MHz (16-16-16-35)
    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (NVIDIA)

Do you think its worth upgrading to AM5 with 7600x or 5800x 3d?
    Arkz's avatar
    Arkz
That's an odd setup, an x570 with s 2700x. Was the cpu from a friend or something? Anyway yeah a 5800x3d would be a nice upgrade. Or if ya wanna spend a lot less a 5600 would still be a nice upgrade over the 2700x. Since you already have an AM4 system AM5 isn't worth it till there's a bigger jump in performance. Wait for Zen5 at least.

This is so tempting even though I can't justify moving from am4 yet
