How much of a performance gain would I see over my current setup? Is it worth upgrading ( for 1080p gaming with a 6650 XT )?
What motherboard would pair with it well?

    Current:

    Motherboard : Asus Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1
    CPU : Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4Ghz -1151 socket (edited)

Should be a huge difference, however if I was in your position I wouldn't go AM4. In my opinion this CPU is for people who already have AM4 and want to get the most out of it.

Do you guys think the R7 5800X3D will have a big discount for Amazon Prime Day, or should I wait longer for Black Friday? I want to get the R7 5800X3D on a really good deal this year.

To be fair though I am also waiting on a killer GPU deal to make a worthwhile double upgrade to my RTX 2080S and AMD R7 3800X together.

So to be honest, I have no idea what to do in the future really. 🤷‍♂️

I remember looking at the price for this last year and it was cheaper late October beginning of November than black Friday. Because they expect many not to check then think it's the cheapest it's been on that day... When it isn't.

Sub 150 for me and that can take a few years. This is my final destination stop before AM5 architecture

The issue I have with this CPU is it really depends on the games you play and also depends on the GPU you have to get the best from it. Not sure it's worth over double the 5600 (edited)

True, it depends what you're upgrading from. It should be a big improvement over a 3600.
