    8gb ram crew......oddly silent

This mini is more then most people will ever need if just looking for a basic computer. Will even do some more demanding tasks well. (edited)

My M1 8gb handles Logic and Final Cut with no problems at all. The M2 is about 12% faster but the SSD is reported to be slower on the base model than the M1. Great little machine.

Do you pay import duties on this?

As per Amazon - GBP 479.15 is included the import cost as well as shipping.

The M4 mini is likely to be out by the end of the year and the M2 was released £50 less than the M1, so I would hold out for the updated model unless you really need one now or want to save a few pounds.

LOL, why not just wait for the M9 in 2030? ;-)

I finally tried one of these after everyone raved about it, used premiere pro and instantly ended up swap filing due to 8gb ram shame as the M2 was excellent for media, they really do need to bump up that RAM without charging an arm and a leg.

The greedy Microsoft starts to provide 16gb ram in the latest Surface so I think Cook will approve the new Mac doing the same thing.
If you need one NOW then this is a pretty good deal.

£466.93 with Chase for me. I’ve been waiting for this to drop to this price. It’s also cheaper than the last deal posted a few months back.

I'm holding out to see what they do with the M4's and hoping they stick a bit more ram in those since they are more centred on AI.

The M2 is a brilliant bit of kit I have just sold my last one awaiting the M4 release, I messed up a bit thinking it would come out sooner, The M2 base spec flys with Final cut 4k video, it only gets bogged down with large file transfers and multiple projects and tasks at once which you would expect,

I would say wait for the M4 but it looks like thats not going to be out this side of autumn so will miss out on any back to school deals apple do

Or do what I did while waiting for the M4 pick up a cheap Trashcan, they are about £200 now for a 12 Core 24 thread Machine with 64Gb Ram and a 1Tb SSD. Does as well as the M2 in most things better in some, but is a power hog at about 200w in use compared to the 20w M2.

PC user here… guessing with people mentioning Final Cut, I know my answer… but how would this handle Photoshop & Lightroom (especially with the new AI tools in the recent releases)?

My old PC literally just gave up…

This is to illustrate the difference between using SWAP memory on your SSD and using only RAM.
For all those who tell about how amazing is SSD paging etc.
Insuffcient amount of RAM causes swapping memory to your slower SSD. The difference in speeds with RAM and SSD is huge. This causes noticeable decrease of performance. And writing swap on SSD with hundreds of gigs everyday will noticeably shorten its lifespan.
I tested M1 with 512GB SSD. the most common 256GB or 128GB diska are much more slower.
And note that M2 computers have slower SSD's which was already proven with several test.

Upon test with memory swap on SSD turned off the mac mini 8GB froze with Chrome ( 8 opened tabs) Zoom meeting in progress and 3 Word documents opened. (edited)
