I was looking at the 11 inch deal this morning, and decided to compare all models, and came across this one, which is £70 more to the 11 inch 512 GB version, and £229 cheaper than Apple refurb. So it looks like a good deal to me. HUKDer can be the judge

Worth noting that this model (and the 256GB) “only” have 8GB of RAM.

    The 1 & 2TB models have 16GB.

Ya, it is quite a shame. The 1TB version is £1000 and 2TB is £1100. Making the 2TB version sound like a better deal than the 1TB, but then again, that is 26% price premium!

Is this a better deal than the iPad pro 11 3rd gen for £599 from Costco yesterday?

    ken218 Author
Different category really, this is 12.9" with twice the storage, but cost 45% more!! However, when compared like for like, it is certainly a good deal.

I tried to tempt my Mrs to this, but she still prefers the 599 deal due to price difference.

    This is a fantastic tablet

the mini LED screen is incredible tech
don't worry about so called "haloing" that's just idiot online reviewers who don't keep the tech for a more than a month

in the real world, for real life people- mini LED is the best tech

    full screen 1000 nits
    1600 nits highlights
    1 million to 1 contrast
will last 5-10 years (no OLED will do that)

buy this because time cook is going to replace the mini LED tech with OLEDs and then you will never get 10 year tablets.

Thank you for this. Really useful.

Do you really think this screen will last 5-10 years only?

I’d expect this to last far, far longer.

    A 512GB Wi-Fi model has never cost £1599.00.

also looking to buy the 512gb version but am tempted to go for the 1tb with the 16gb ram.

my biggest argument for not getting it is that if there is anything intensive I could just use my MBA M1 which in theory has the same specs has the 1tb ipad pro

went for the 512 version (edited)

99.99% of people won’t even be able to use up the 8gb ram on the <1TB models

The M1 chip is overkill for ipad OS as it is.

I have had the 256gb m1 12.9 for almost 2 years and not even for a single second has it frozen or got stuck on any task.

These devices are insane and will easily last 5+ years without any issues. (edited)

You mean £170 more than the 256gb model?
    ken218's avatar
    ken218 Author
    From my research, costco price

    256GB 12.9" = 829.99
    512GB 11" = 799.99

Unless you are referring to 256GB 11" = 599.99, which this cost £270 more

I was thinking M1 vs A12Z is going to be very different, but in reality, it feels like M1 is really more marketing related because Apple started to use it to replace all their Intel processors.

Costco has 2 years warranty, and 3rd gen has 8GB RAM on base model (2nd gen has 6GB). For me, I feel 512GB is sufficient, 1 more year of warranty is better, newer SOC (at least 1 more year of support?) is feels better. So if I am to choose, I will probably go for the 3rd gen. But if you need more storage, the £200 from Costco (Costco has it for £999.99) will get you 10GB extra RAM!!!, (6GB vs 16GB), when you then factor in the extra year of warranty and the newer SOC, also sound like a better deal. But it is 25% price increase, mmm... (edited)

I went from a 4th gen to a 5th gen purely for the screen don’t regret it for a second. The only time I’ve noticed the performance difference was playing Divinity and rendering 4k video.

Fantastic price, voted hot and pulled the trigger you dont often get discounts of this size on apple gear. Going for the 5th gen means you will be inline for OS updates that little bit longer. For me its looking like a 5th gen for the price of what a 4th gen has been recently and all brand new.

Just a suggestion. I managed to pick up the same model 128GB wifi only for £650. It was from eBay, refurb, with the £75 voucher via music magpie. It was rated good but was absolutely pristine with just a bruised box.
    ken218's avatar
    ken218 Author
Some friends purchased from MusicMagpie over time, even the grade A stuff didn’t feel that pristine to me, and some had batteries replaced by 3rd parties, made them felt even worse to me. It might be by luck, but when all were like that, I don’t feel so confident anymore.

Bought one of 1TB, really good. Screen massive. The external connectivity means you probably get away with a 256GB and keep movies on flash drive.

I paid this for a 256gb 5G model back in February from Music Magpie just for a bit of reference, it was immaculate with 96% battery.

This or Samsung S8 ultra tablet??!!
    umirza85's avatar
    umirza85
I'm an android fan first.....but it honestly doesn't compare to this well. Not to mention there's only a few years of updates left for the S8. Samsung will move on and apple will easily support this device for another 5 years MIN. Really need to take that into account when spending this much.

Same, went with the silver one. The specs for this price, it’ll be a device that lasts 8-10 years if treated well. Probably need a replacement battery before the device itself is unsupported.
