I was really hoping developers would take this ARM chip and run with it, but there has been no support. Sadly what I think will happen is Apple make Mac OS more like IOS and they'll merge all their devices that way. I cannot see Windows and console gaming ever becoming a thing for Mac OS, even though these M chips are far more capable that what they had with Intel.

Actually Apple have macOS, iOS and iPadOS. They definitely won't make macOS like iOS and they also won't make it like iPadOS. If anything it will be the other way around. iPadOS may take on more features of a fully blown OS such as macOS.

Apple arrived with M1 which was rightly lauded at the time, they then sat back and said yeah we're done here and made a minor iteration with the M2. Intel and AMD then caught up so Apple need to kick things off again with the M3 and it's possible they might do that, they're up against stiffer competition though. Really though it's about the software, if you need to use Logic Audio or Final Cut then you need to use a Mac.

The Framework laptops enthusiasts are salivating over will use Ryzen 7840U which royally smashes the M2 in terms of single and multi thread workload. M2 has memory bandwidth and energy efficiency wins but nothing else and this CPU can be coupled with up to a Radeon 780M so a definite GPU boost. Also the AMD Z1 and Z1 Extreme are based on this CPU it is rumoured so that's some handheld gaming goodness arriving. Hopefully coupled with SteamOS that should get major improvements over SteamDeck processing 8.6 Teraflops of GPU performance opposed to 1.6 Teraflops in a SteamDeck. A PS5 has 10.3 Teraflops GPU compute power. Maybe a new SteamDeck will happen. I haven't even looked so that's a complete supposition.

As I said though, any platform is as good as the software you need to use. If you need to use Logic Audio or Final Cut Pro etc then no Linux or Windows based PC however powerful is going to cut the mustard as you need a Mac.

Anyway it is all good, more options = more competition = more choice = better pricing = happy consumers.

I have the 14” model can run emulators just fine ps2 etc bioshock remastered, project zomboid has to run through crossover for some strange reason the Mac OS version does not work, great machine otherwise shame fallout isn’t on Mac OS, oh and resi 8 looks fabulous on it better than console in my opinion so if you do want to game you can do just bare in mind Mac OS ain’t ideal for gamers you buy into it for the OS and it’s ecosystem which are pretty solid and has no adverts!

Was posted a week ago but went out of stock. I’ve been looking around ever since and it does seem a good deal. Shame the £75 voucher ended
