Pop question. We have a 75l tank with guppies and Molly's. One of the Molly's has spawned a load of babies today (30+)
What do I need to do? The pet store chain didn't want to know and couldn't help.

You can get a divider to go in the main tank to separate the Female Molly which is pregnant from other fish, though this may not be suitable for all tanks.
    -
Alternatively, look for a fry saver to put the pregnant Molly inside during birthing!
    -
I run 3 Facebook Groups for fishkeepers and have over 40 years fish fish-keeping breeding experience.
    -
Molly fish prior to breeding, and after will eat just about anything smaller than them in the tank, including fry and junior fish!
    -
I have seen one Molly personally eat over 100 fry in less than an hour, you can buy relatively cheap floating fish savers, these are smaller tanks you place inside another tank that float and then you place a pregnant fish inside while it is releasing the smaller fish during pregnancy. It is not ideal but they have a smaller compartment in the bottom of the fish-saver which the majority of fry swim into as they are released.
You will not save all the fry, but you will give them a greater chance than they would have in the tank. You can then remove the female Molly from the fish/fry saver after birthing back to the main tank once birthing is completed.
    -
It is important to recognise when the birthing process is about to start, if you have basic fish keeping and breeding experience it is common that beginners sometimes leave the female in the fry saver too long. This can sometimes stress the female.
    -
Also worth noting Molly can change sex from Male to Female throughout the year, so sometimes you may purchase what looks like a Male Molly and a few months later it may change to female and look pregnant.
    -
I love keeping Molly fish in my tanks. though out of all the tropical fish I keep they have one of the most voracious appetites of all fish when pregnant. Plus, even when not pregnant if you have other pregnant fish in the tank due to release fry keep a careful watch as Molly will eat all fry in the tank very quickly.
    -
If you are serious about fish keeping you may wish to purchase a small fry saver or birthing tank to put females in when they are pregnant to produce the offspring when the female is about to release them!
    -
    Hope this helps you.

    Kind regards Ljay

Check out deep sand beds, it essentially acts as a river bed so you don't need to run a filter (just circulate the water slowly). I haven't had to change my water or clean the glass for a couple of years. The water quality (nitrates) is better than what comes out of the tap. Been keeping fish for a couple of decades and was almost ready to give up before I tried this method, game changer! Saves a fortune on electricity and over the top filters 😜 (edited)

Have you got any good websites or guides for setting one up. I'm a bit of a newb but like the sound of a natural filter system

I have this tank. The filter that comes with it is rubbish. Access to the top of the tank is limited. Saying that. It's a beautiful deep tank that looks amazing in any room. I have it as a Discus tank. I upgraded the filter to fx 4. All u really have room for. This is a great deal.

I remember spending a fortune on tropical fish back in the 80,s. Most of them would either die or be eaten. Not sure I would re visit all that though but the tanks do look nice when looked after
