Bought one of these for a build during the dark times when no GPUs were available. Didn't pay much more than this almost two years ago. Now you can get 8GB RX580 2048SPs from AliExpress for around £70 I'd probably avoid this now.

This should really be no more than £100 IMO.

Its laughable ATI thinks its even viable producing cards with such limited memory in 2023.

Had this card and sold it with a PC... It's not bad at all really despite all the negative reviews

Would this play minecraft java edition at a decent FPS at 1080p or above?

Looking for a budget upgrade for the kids, they each got a basic wowcher type PC for Christmas (not my idea ).. currently have GT710 2GB cards so presume at least better than that...?

You need to check your power supply before buying it tbh as I doubt the GT710 has an additional 6 pin power connector like this card does. Performance not a clue though, but it should be fine for minecraft (my rx 580 ran MC fine at 1080p)

Would this be a decent upgrade from a evga 1070 8gb card at all?

No it'd be a significant downgrade, 1070 is 29% better and has 8gb vram. Check techpowerup for comparisons

For a brand new card in a modern system that supports PCIe 4 good deal.

I was surprised this is on par with the 1660 super, even though it has 2gb vram less.
For that reason, heat for a new card that can cope well enough with settings dialled back a bit.

Impossibly bad piece of cynical garbage from AMD- 'excused' by Ngreedia doing worse at the so-called 'low' end.

Get a cheap 580/5700/6600M from China instead.

AMD should have had APU's beating this POS at the same price by now. Thankfully AMD is now being forced by market factors to build great APUs, so by 2024 discrete GPUs in this performance sector should be obsolete- and about time too.

Honestly it couldn't come soon enough. Looks like all "budget and midrange" graphics is destined for APU's now for the future.

Basically an RX580 in perf, 6 years later for a similar price, unless you have a gen3 board in which case it's gonna choke on those 4x lanes and be even worse. This is bad no matter how you look at it for the price. Especially considering what you can get second hand at this price.

If you have saved £140 to spend on a GPU....save another £55 and buy a 6600. The performance gain is massive. This is a £100 card

Its not even a £100 card. Its a complete joke of a card.

It's hard to recommend this card unless you are averse to buying a used one.

The RX 6500 XT is a PCI-Express 4.0 x4 card that doesn't play nicely when run in older PCI-E 3.0 systems. Techspot claims the cards sees a "30% decline in performance" when running in a Gen3.0 slot. Bear that in mind if upgrading an older system.

If you have to buy new then consider spending an extra £60 for the RX 6600 which would net you 60%+ extra performance.

If you are someone who wants the most FPS for the least amount money and is ok buying used, then both the RX 5600 XT and RX 5700 are out there for less money and offering around a 50% performance boost.

Got this just to run 120hz on my 4k tv. Money well spent

it's hot from me. It's a solid 1080p brand new card with low power requirements. Yes, the VRAM is somewhat measly but the most popular graphics card around at the moment is the GTx 1650 and this will run rings around that.
    Arkz's avatar

1650 is also a 4 year old low end card. This is only about as powerful as an rx580 from 2017, and for a similar price. It's solid in 1080p if playing demanding games from 4 years ago, sure. But it struggles with today's demanding games right now in 1080p. So buying it now, how you think it's gonna perform in next years games? Or the year after?

for 20 to 30 more you can get a 5700 xt from aliexpress, a 100% faster card for max £30 more! Id check the options on aliexpress though, I was looking last week and some cards have higher boost speeds than others.

So basically a 4 year old card (that has twice as much GDDR 6 Vram, video encoding and has a 192 bit bus) you can bag for £30 more today is twice as fast as a new graphics card from ATI. Speaks volumes where the GPU industry is headed.

    Pretty rubbish card.
PCIE 4 is a disadvantage; it only uses 4x which means its slower than a PCIE 3 16x card.
Also means if your system is only 3x you are going to see a massive decrease in performance.

It doesn't have any video encoding; so you can't use it to save clips; have to rely on a software solution.

Also 4gb of ram is criminal for a new card; even at this price point.

A used rx470/480/570/580 is about the same performance and a lot cheaper. If you want a new card pay the extra 50 and get a rx6600 which is probably more than twice as fast and will actually last.

Almost right. Pcie 4.0 in only 4 lanes is the exact same speed as pcie 3.0 in 8 lanes. the choking point is the card can only use 4 lanes regardless. And 4 lanes on gen3 is the same bandwidth as 2 lanes on gen4. Too restrictive.

Would this be natively supported by Ventura hackintosh setup?
