It's better overall but its a Microshift drivetrain and the carbon fibre fork is I believe a aluminium steerer bonded to carbon fibre blades. These have been the cause of many recalls and the bonding can fail over the years. It is safer to get full carbon fibre forks, more comfortable and lighter. I've seen Claris recommended for touring bikes, its pretty sturdy and long lasting but Microshift is more basic plasticky but competent as a budget option. I have a basic road bike I paid £90 for with Microshift 2x7 brifters and I wouldn't say they are the match for Tourney 2x7 brifters at all and yet Tourney is easily inferior to Claris yet the Microshift brifters for 2x8 look identical to the 2x7 version. I feel Claris is a significant upgrade. The Carrera Vanquish is often available sub £400 either as a set price or using a discount code and cashback. That has a triple butted aluminium frame, Claris drivetrain, disc brakes, full carbon fibre fork and higher weight limits. It's a much stronger, reliable and safer bike.
